Maggie Fronk, Executive Director of Domestic Violenceand Rape Crisis Services in Saratoga County (DVRC)

was awarded The Sunshine Peace Award honoring extraordi-nary individuals working to end domestic violence. Foundedby Doris Buffet (sister to investor Warren Buffet), the awardhonors the vital role that workers in the domestic violencefield play within communities. Fronk was one of fifteen individuals to receive the award from Ms. Buffet at a ceremony in Wilmington, Delaware in late August.

CAP COM Federal Credit Union opened its 10th CapitalRegion branch at 799 Hoosick Rd. (Route 7) on

Monday, Nov. 1. CAP COM Federal Credit Union has morethan 77,000 members, 193 employees and more than $850million in assets. Ellen Bach and Robert Schofield, attorneys with WhitemanOsterman & Hanna LLP, the Capital Region’s largest

law firm, will be honored with the Outstanding Advocate of Libraries Award by the New York Library Association(“NYLA”) at a reception to be held at the Saratoga Hiltonon Friday, November 5. Each year, NYLA recognizes an individual, or group, who has made a far reaching and sustained contribution to the promotion and/or support of library and information services to the people of NewYork State.

Sherri D. Pierce, LMT at Back in Balance TherapeuticMassage in Clifton Park recently completed three

continuing education courses through the Institute for Integrative Healthcare. The three courses taken were SportsMassage, Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), and MyofascialRelease (MFR). The benefits of the above massage modali-ties include; addressing trigger points and stretching as wellas enhancing the removal of metabolic wastes and relievingmuscle soreness caused from workouts or competition withsports massage. Following reports that Equinox lacked sufficient suppliesfor its annual holiday dinner, Hannaford Supermarkets

helped to ensure that those in need do not go hungry thisThanksgiving by allocating 3,400 lbs. of turkey for the 41st annual Equinox Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner.

Hannaford’s donation exceeds its previous top commitmentby 1,000 pounds. The contribution also marks the singlelargest turkey donation to be received by Equinox for the2010 holiday dinner and helped feed approximately 9,000hungry, homeless or homebound people in the Capital Region on Thanksgiving Day.

KeyBank N.A. has made a $200,000 gift to Albany Medical Center to support the hospital’s “Grow Our

Own” program. “Grow Our Own” is a work-study program that assists eligible employees of the Albany, N.Y.,hospital obtain their registered nursing degrees. It wasstarted in 2002, and has been supported by KeyBank sincethat time to address a shortage in the region’s nursing workforce. Jeffrey Stone, Capital Region president of KeyBank,said economic self-sufficiency is the cornerstone of thebank’s philanthropic giving. “No program better exemplifiesthis than Albany Med’s ‘Grow Our Own’,”

Hudson Valley Community College will offer several college-level courses in the evenings at its new TEC-

SMART education facility in Malta this winter. Classesbegin on Jan. 24 and run through May 19. Courses, offeredboth day and evenings, include liberal arts and businesscourses as well as courses related to the college’s renewableenergy and semiconductor manufacturing programs. Tuitionis $142 per credit hour for New York State residents. The final Baskets of Hope Assembly of 2010 by theWomen in Business Committee was a resounding successthanks to many, many donations from generous chamberand community members! A large gathering of Women InBusiness Committee members provided the” elbow grease”to assemble over 200 “baskets” filled with women’s personalcare items donated to Domestic Violence and Rape CrisisServices of Saratoga County (DVRC).

The holiday season is sadly, a busy time for DVRC andexecutive Director Maggie Fronk expressed her gratitude atthe continued support the committee provides with muchneeded items for the women and children that they serve.
