Unique Tastes for the Foodie at New York Pizza Bar & Grill

NYP owner Ray Mascali has spent the bulk of his life in the restaurant business having owned every type of Italian Ristorante from a casual dining, to a bistro and even a more intimate bistro. His latest is the New York Pizza Bar and Grill Battleground but to think of this restaurant as a mere pizza place is a gross understatement. The tastes found here are both unique and a must try for the serious foodie.

It is here that Ray and his cooking staff have pioneered new tastes like the Panini menu with chicken, meat lovers and veggie styles each more tasty that the last. Don’t be fooled by the generic names, these sandwiches are truly unique and satisfying.

Holiday Cheer and Exquisite Meals at The Fourth Street Filling Station

By Brian WatkinsThe Old Fourth Street Filling Station has been a popular downtown Winston Salem restaurant for many years. Classy for date nights and lively for holiday get togethers, it retains the historic charm of western Winston Salem.

Since 1999 the Filling Station has blended amazing cuisine with casual dining. From relaxed atmosphere dining to memorable special occasions, general manager Adam Andrews has enjoyed friendships with all sorts of patrons.Adam owns a local produce farm and uses organically grown veggies whenever possible in both the Filling Station and its sister restaurant, Jeffrey Adams.

The menu rotates with the seasons, featuring different batches of produce throughout the year. The dining is truly a unique North Carolina experience.

The restaurant features a full bar and an extensive wine list, making for a great afternoon stop or an exquisite evening meal.

Weekly drink specials include:• Mondays - $2.50 draughts• Tuesdays - $2.50 bottle beers• Wednesdays - $5.00 martinis• Thursdays - Half price wine

But it’s not just lunches and dinners at the Filling Station. Sunday brunch has been a staple, starting with grand mimosas and Cajun bacon Bloody Maries. Classics like Eggs Benedict are patron favorites, along with fluffy and masterfully seasoned omelets. You can enjoy meals like these in the well talked about patio area that has been featured many times in publications. When you mention fusion cuisine to someone they usually think of amazing and unique combinations of ingredients from two different cooking styles. In this case it is Chinese/Taiwanese and American combination with dishes like loaded mashed potato egg rolls, Taiwanese popcorn chicken

or hamburgers with Taiwanese sour pickle relish with the usual lettuce and tomato. Simba is now ranked as one of the best burgers in the Triad by local diners. But this restaurant has a wealth

of other novel offerings like signature cocktails from each of its bartenders, or drinks whose colors are keyed to the day and a full bar with over 50 types of liquor. Cold Mountain Winter Ale

From Spencer: From Spencer: I still get excited every year when the Cold Mountain Winter Ale is released. The ever-changing Winter ale usually has notes of vanilla, spice, hazelnut and a sweet biscuit flavor that finishes with a slight hoppy balance. People always talk from year to year about how last year was better than this year, but for me it always gets the winter season rolling……City Beverage has been selling Highland beers since the mid-90s. Oscar Wong, the founder of the brewery really knows what it takes to brew good beer. He also knows how to treat his customers and the people that work for him. To me, this is what being a successful owner of a brewery is all about.From Tim: We have had this, in December, the last two years on The Less Desirables and it’s been a hit each time. The spices this year are a bit subtle but still quite appropriate. You never know what you’re going to get but you know it’s still going to be great, whatever it is. This last time we had it on the show, it received kudos from a beer “expert.” Eric Swaim, co-owner of Hoots Beer Company in Winston-Salem, expressed his love for both Highland and for this, Cold Mountain. To me, Highland does little, if any wrong. This is yet another great example of their beer prowess. I rate it 4 stars out of 5. From both: Cheers to 20 years Highland!
