Hey ladies -- I just came across the following web site on an organization called The A21 Campaign.

They are in the fight against human trafficking. Their web site is: www.a21.org

Some of you may know about them, but I wanted to let you know about it if you would like to add it to your resource list I gave

you this past week at our meeting. -- Blessings, Greta

Tired of having a sore back, tight shoul-ders, tension headache and fatigue by the end of the work day?

Habits formed in our daily activities like staring at the computer, cradling the phone, slouching in a chair, or even just carrying groceries can create pain. These conditions can be helped or prevented by incorporat-ing good ergonomic techniques into daily routines and work sites.

Ergonomics is helping to fit a job to the person, whether at work or at home.

Use good ergonomic practices in the office. Keep your body in alignment while sitting in an office chair. Sit up straight in your chair. Keeping your shoulders and hips in line vertically.

Adjust your chair to have your feet on the floor, thighs horizontal, arms even with the height of the desk and good lumbar sup-port. Use a foot rest as needed, and arm rests should be adjustable to allow shoulders to relax.

When typing, arms/wrists should not rest on arm rests or wrist rests. Keep moni-tor at eye level with good lighting.

Keep your body in alignment while standing. Distribute your body weight evenly to front, back and sides of feet. Focus on holding your stomach muscles in.

Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 min-utes, look 20 feet away from your computer screen for 20 seconds.

Get up and move with “mini breaks” every 30 minutes. Stretch, stand or walk.

Sitting too long leads to slouching and poor posture, putting extra pressure on your neck and back. Adjust positions to get out of your traditional sitting at your desk mode.

Increase your awareness of posture and ergonomics in everyday settings. Be mind-ful when you are lifting, sitting, performing repetitive motions and working in awkward body positions.

Do regular exercise to help promote good posture and prevent injury. Walking, biking and swimming are good low-impact exercises. Move, move, move!

Maintain overall relaxed posture in head, neck, shoulders and back. Clenching muscles can lead to stiffness and tightness, causing increased pain and limited move-ments overall.

Incorporating ergonomics and lifestyle changes into your workplace and life can increase productivity, decrease fatigue and decrease muscle soreness. If your injury or pain keeps you from functioning and enjoy-ing everyday life at work, home or during leisure activities, ask your doctor if rehab services may be right for you.

Durliat and Bame are with Julie A. Cole Rehab & Sports Medicine, Findlay. Ques-tions for Blanchard Valley Health System experts may be sent to Weekend Doctor, The Courier, P.O. Box 609, Findlay, OH 45839.

The Zonta Club of Findlay says, “No to Violence Against Women.”

It is one of Zonta’s goals to educate others about the prevalence of violence and what to do if you suspect or see it happening. Many are not aware of the crimes which take place in our own city and state or even next door.

The term human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery, is now much more familiar than a few years ago. It is the illegal trade of human beings for commercial sexual exploi-tation and forced labor, and it is the fastest-growing criminal enterprise worldwide.

Modern-day slavery is a business that is run by people of all walks of life. This includes those we would never suspect because they have white-collar jobs, and people who we think we can trust and are supposed to protect us.

Ohio is ranked fifth among the states with the high-est number of slaves forced into human trafficking, and Toledo is the third-highest city nationwide. The high-ways and turnpike which run through Toledo create an easy route to transport slaves.

It is an alarming thought to know slavery is occurring so close to home. We need to become more aware of those around us and report suspicious behavior.

Sex slavery advertisements can be found online. When there is an event which draws a large number of people, the advertisements for the sale of sex increases. Hotel/motels are prevalent for prostitution.

If we see several young girls and one man going into a hotel, or if an expensive car is parked near the back of a cheap hotel, we need to be suspicious. Ohio has more truck stops than any other state. Noticing young girls walking around or getting into trucks is a sure indicator of sexual slavery.

Labor slavery is when people are forced to work long hours for very little, or no, money. Some establishments commonly known for using forced labor are restaurants, nail salons and cleaning agencies.

“Begging rings” use young and or disabled children to beg from others. “Peddling sales rings” use people ages 18-25 to sell household items. These rings are moved from city to city.

We can help by becoming aware of the problem and then following up with a phone call if we see something suspicious. The number for the National Human Traf-ficking Resource Center is 1-888-373-7888. I encourage you to put this number in your contact list.

Modern-day slavery hurts the innocent deeply and eventually takes their lives. To help save lives, we all have to become involved and willing to take a step forward.

ZEE NEWS - DECEMBER 2015 PAGE 4Fellowship Report

Dear Zonta sisters,

Thank you all very much for the cards and flowers . I am recovering very well from my mastectomy and have been out walking most days 1 to 2 miles and have not needed pain pills for days. I realized I had been overdoing the use of my arms when my 2 drains started emptying more ( hard to realize when I don’t have pain ) I was doing laundry and making beds when I shouldn’t have. I also wanted to let you all know that I wrote my letter to the editor concerning 16 days of activism submitted today.

-- Lyn Benavides

Linda Branwell texted the following: “My chemo treatments continue. Although not as intense, the dosage is double and the symptoms more intense. I’m just not dependable and need more time for healing. Send my wishes to Zonta. All of the prayers and well wishes are greatly appreciated.”

At the last meeting, we were told that Jane Shoemaker and Barb Wilson saw Kim Trautman 11/17. Kim was waiting for PT. They’re concentrating on getting her leg working. Not much change.

HATS tickets to City Mission, and have delivered a check for $200 to Clothe-a-Child. We also supported a new project through the County Drug Court for Thanksgiving baskets

for 5 female clients of that program. We gave $250 toward that. Please send me your thoughts on these or any new projects you may be aware of. -- thanks, JUDY

Zonta Club of FindlayProgram Meeting Minutes

October 20, 2015 at Noon at the Hancock County Historical Museum

CTO: (Maile Doyle)Maile called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m. with the pledge followed by the Zonta prayer. She then welcomed guest, Krystan Krucki with

the Center for Safe and Healthy Children. Krystan said Tom Blunk is working on some new programming ideas and may be interested in partnering with Zonta again.

Board Decisions: (Maile Doyle)Maile announced that the Board met briefly just prior to today’s program meeting for the purpose of considering the resignation of Rachael Gerber and Maria Reza as well as requests from Kim Trautman and Linda Branwell for leaves of absence. Jane Shoemaker moved that we accept the resignations with sadness and regret; Barb Wilson seconded and they were approved by all. Paula McRill moved that we accept

the requests for leaves of absence with regret; it was seconded by Nancy Abbey and approved by all. Action: Linda Stockton will send a note to each expressing thanks for their contributions and acceptance of their requests with regret.

Action: Maile will inform Dee Pecoraro.

Secretary’s Report: (Linda Stockton) – There were no program minutes to approve.

Program: (Kathy Foust)Kathy introduced today’s program topics: geranium sales training by Paula McRill and District 5 Fall Conference review by Maile.

Geranium Sale:Paula said the goal for the fall pre-sale is $7,250 with a stretch goal set at $10k. She also thanked those who decorated Main Street Deli. She encouraged club members to remind customers that if they order and pay in the fall, they get a 10% discount. Prices on the form do not include the discount; the discount is a separate entry underneath the order subtotal. Paula also distributed a list of people who made purchases at the sale last year, which three members divided among themselves. Forms with the yellow box are to be filled out with one customer’s order detail and the respective club member’s information written in the yellow box so the customer knows to whom he/she is to return the form. Once club members gather all of their order forms, they are to compile the data into one master form for submission to

Paula; Paula’s name is in the yellow box on this form. We need to get these to Paula as soon as possible; however, she extended the deadline to November 15, 2015. Paula encouraged us to talk with Shirley Pollock for tips to organize our sales, especially if you want to learn how to organize your delivery so you’re not crisscrossing town unnecessarily. Delivery is one week earlier than previous years with the pick-up date being Wednesday the 27th of April and the sale scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the 29th and 30th of April. We hope to again hold the sale

at the old Sears auto maintenance bay. Jodi DeVore suggested holding the sale on Saturday at Riverside Park to coincide with the Walk-a-mile event.

Action: The geranium committee will discuss a possible change in location for pick-up and come back to the club with a recommendation.

Fall Conference Review:Maile shared a PowerPoint presentation with photos taken at the Fall Conference as part of her initial review of the District 5 Fall

Conference. Maile couldn’t thank everyone enough for all they did to contribute to the events’ success. Some of the things she heard included: warm, welcoming, friendly, open hearted, organized and fun. In her dual role as President and Committee Chair, she said she was

the face but we were the team and that she thought it was the best conference in the past 6-7 years. The basket in the bathroom was really appreciated, especially the dental floss. Zonta Zisters was also a highlight. The flag sale was a huge success. We ran out of (500) flags and

had to buy stars. Committee member by committee member, Maile expressed specific and unique thank yours and said gifts will be awarded at the meeting at her home Sunday afternoon. Our group’s diverse strengths, whether creativity, attention to detail, boundless energy,

calmness under pressure or words of encouragement all came together in ways that complemented each other and accomplished our task with excellence.

Action: Maile will email members her PowerPoint presentation. Action: Members are to send any pictures we took to Maile.

Action: Anyone who made arrangements with other folks, please send them thank you notes.Action: For those who were responsible for a particular area, please write a short paragraph or two maximum outlining what went well, what

you would change, etc. Maile will compile this feedback and pass it on to Columbus, next year’s host club.Action: Members can purchase left-over wine glasses for $10 each or 4/$35 while they last.

Announcements: Fellowship (Becky Noack):

Becky reminded everyone that the Halloween party will be October 30 at Jane Shoemaker’s barn. Invitations were emailed. She encouraged us to get creative with our costumes as there are new awards this year (sexiest!) and they have spared no expense on prizes. A sign-up sheet

for food was passed. Bring materials to decorate gourds but be sure it won’ damage the floor (e.g., no paints, stains or hot glue guns). We are expecting a couple representatives from the district to attend.

Shirley Pollock said she and Kathy Natal visited Kim Trautman after the conference to deliver the cards everyone signed. Kim seemed good and optimistic. No one had updated information on Linda Branwell.

Board Meeting (Maile): The next board meeting will be October 28 at Maile’s at 6 p.m.

Service Committee: (Jeanne Fast) They will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, at Jeanne’s new home.

Zonta Says No: (Dr. Kelli Jo Arndt) Due to a mix-up with dated, the committee decided to change the date of their next meeting to next Wednesday at lunch at the Wine Merchant.

The meeting was adjourned by Maile just before 1 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Linda J. Stockton, Secretary151020 ProgramMtgMinsApproved.docx
