Principal’s Message
“Let’s go – Cougars – Let’s go!!
That chant is still ringing in my ears from 2 weeks ago - thanks to Kyle Schuler, Zade Taphorn, Carson Sogge (taking turns as Clawde) and our Superfan Skyler Varga. These young gentlemen did an outstanding job encouraging our Sr. Girls and getting the crowd to do the same. The Pro-vincial Volleyball weekend was a tremendous success, due mostly to the hard work and endless hours of preparation from the coaches in organiz-ing the tournament (let alone their coaching all year), to the multitude of volunteers (minor officials, booth, gate workers, clothing, food dona-tions), the high number of fans that came to watch, and the many Muen-ster School alumni that volunteered their time. School pride is important, but it in small towns it also translates to community pride. This event was a feather in the hat for this community, something that we can all be proud of. We received many compliments from the other teams, parents, officials and SHSAA. The icing on the cake was a Championship banner for our Girls Volleyball team – congratulations girls!! Thanks again to everyone that pitched in!
Curling is well under way with many of our students participating in Muenster Super League and the Humboldt Jr. Curling League. Once again, all the Grade 5 – 12 students experienced a session with instruc-tors from Sask. Curling. Special thanks to Gord Kiefer for making the arrangements for this to happen for our students.
The Playground Committee has been working hard as well, and thanks to their many hours of volunteering and commitment as well as the support and generosity of our communities, we are making good progress toward achieving our goal. Hopefully at some point this spring we will have our new playground installed. If you wish to donate toward this project you may contact the school for more information.
The annual Seniors’ Appreciation Lunch will occur here at the school gym on Thurs-day, December 15. We always look forward to this event and hope to see a good crowd once again. Also, please note that the Christmas Concert will be on Monday, De-cember 19 at 7:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you all that evening. School resumes on Wednesday, January 4.
Enjoy the holidays with your children and families, and have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Grade 3 & 4 News
It’s feeling “Christmasy” in the Grade 3/4 classroom! We are so excited for December as we begin our concert preparations!
We are moving on to a new Social Studies unit focusing on the land in Saskatchewan. In Math class, we will be testing Chapter 2 shortly. Our next area of study for the Grade 3’s will be Addition and Sub-traction. The Grade 4’s will be working on Multiplication and Division. In ELA, we are working on using exaggera-tion to make our writing humorous. We will soon be working on a Christmas story about an elf who hated Christmas to get ourselves into the Christmas spirit. In Science, the class has moved on to studying Structures and Materials. They’ve also been working very hard on their Christmas art projects which will be hanging on our hall-way bulletin board very soon…come check them out!

We are getting excited for Christmas in Kindergarten! We are working on counting backward and we’ll be counting down the days to Christmas. The class is also excited about our latest Play Centre… Santa’s Workshop! I

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us with Operation
Christmas Child. We really enjoyed shopping for and packing boxes for children in need. It
is so hard to believe that Christmas is almost here and that means Christmas concert. We
have begun practicing our skit parts. We are very fortunate again to have Mrs. Waldner
helping us with the music and choir and teaching us the chimes. We can’t wait to perform
for you. This year we decided to put on a comedy skit rather than a musical. We hope you
enjoy it – we sure are laughing each time we practice. Many of us have to learn how to talk
with Italian accents! We’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New
Year.

Senior Girls Volleyball
The year 2016 will be remembered as a year of firsts for our senior girls’ volleyball
team.
Our school had the opportunity to host, for the first time in school history, the 2A
Senior Girls’ Provincial Volleyball Championships. There were 10 teams from
around the province vying for the provincial crown. The calibre and talent dis-
played by the teams, made for an exciting weekend of volleyball.
Our girls finished pool play with a 3 wins 1 loss record, good for second place in
Pool A. Our quarter final match was against a strong Medstead team, and after los-
ing the first set, our girls trailed 23-16 in the second set. A substitution brought
forth the winds of change, as Kelsey Pratchler served 9 straight points to complete
the comeback. Our girls went on to win the third set by a score of 15-13. It was unbe-
lievable and something that Mr. Taphorn has not seen in 16 years of coaching vol-
leyball.
Medal Round Bound – In the semi final we played Kerrobert, a team who had de-
feated us in the Regional championship the previous week. This time around our
girls came out with a strong focus and defeated Kerrobert in 2 straight sets.
This victory put us into the Gold Medal game. We would play Invermay, the 2015
provincial silver medallists. This was an entertaining final. Our girls battled
through a tough first set, winning it by a score of 26-24. Our girls were not able to
match the intensity of Invermay during the second set, falling by a score of 25-12.
The final set went the way a third set should be to determine a winner. Hard hits,
plenty of digs and bodies hitting the floor. It was exciting volley-
ball to watch. When the dust settled, our girls were crowned pro-
vincial champions. This was the first time in our school’s history
that we have won a provincial championship in volleyball!
Thanks to our Graduating players: Alison Behiel, Katelyn Behiel,
Payge Newberry and Brittney Szautner.

Playground Committee News
The playground committee would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has participat-
ed and helped out in all of our fundraising for the past year and a half. We would like to take
this opportunity to explain our reason for so much fundraising in such a short time and why
we have shrunk the size of our playground proposal. With some of the grants that we have
been accepted for comes a deadline for them to be used, our largest one being $25,000.00.
We have to have the playground project completely and a report sent to them by September,
2017, so that gave us the incentive to try as hard as we possibly could to reach our goal.
We have now raised $131,000.00 towards our new goal of $150,000.00. We are so
close!!!!
The Volleyball Provincial booth was a big undertaking, mostly because there were two ven-
ues to man and have supplies for. Many, many thanks need to go out:
To the volleyball families for making food donations and working shifts to help out
To the students who worked in the booth prepping/selling food
To the families who volunteered to donate food even though they are on neither the Play-
ground Committee or associated with the volleyball team
To the committee for their donations, the prep work and managing and working shifts
And the benefits go on……
The elementary gets recycle money to buy classroom games/supplies.
The breakfast program received left over muffins, fruit, wraps, etc. for Mrs. Hogemann to
creatively create nutritious options to start our day.
We would like to thank everyone who came out for the Paint Nite we had a total of 78 paint-
ers at the Muenster Curling Rink. Thank you to the Muenster Curling Club for donating the
use of the facility. We profited just over $5844.44 & had a great time trying out our painting
skills!!!

Krissy at 231-5245.
Please return any Sobey”s Gift Card orders to the school by December 9th.
