Sarabpreet Singh and Jaswinder Singh were arrested following inputs that BKI was trying to set-up its base in Delhi for executing their plan during the upcoming Punjab elections. A thorough examina- t ion of the laptop recovered from t he arrested militants has provid- ed the police some clues about the identity of those who have been recruited. “We have got some important clues from the laptop and are examining it further to get more evidences. During interrogation Sarabpreet disclosed t hat he carried out the recruiting assignment on the instructions of BKI chief Wadhwa Singh,” said a senior police officer, adding that t hey have sent a team to Punjab t o trace the newly recruited BKI militants. The officer, however, refused to share details about the number of recruited persons. “This would hamper our investigation and we don’t want to lose this terror trail, t he officer added. Sarabpreet, who was arrested from his rented accommodation in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh was also given the task by his han- dlers to create a base for the BKI in Delhi. The charge-sheet also covered the larger conspiracy of Pakistani spy agency ISI, and LeT to attack Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, offices of national carri- er Air India, government offices in Mumbai, Chabad houses in different cities and the National Defence College in Delhi after the Mumbai attacks. On November 26, 2008, Pakistan-based terrorists launched more than 10 coordi- nated shooting and bombing attacks across Mumbai. Ajmal Kasab, the lone attacker arrest- ed alive, later claimed that their mission had the support of Pakistan's spy agency, the ISI. Filed in a special court in Patiala House here three days after the Centre gave sanction to prosecute all the nine accused — seven Pakistanis and two Pakistani-origin citizens of the US and Canada — the charge- sheet also named the attack mas- termind, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Headley's accomplice Tahawwur Rana and al-Qaeda operative Illyas Kashmiri. Sajid Malik, handler of Headley, and Abdul Rehman Hashmi, a former Pakistani army officer, were also named besides two serving officers. According to the charge-sheet, Headley and Rana, both mem- bers of LeT, were placed in a posi- tion where they could provide tactical, material and financial support for carrying out attacks in India and other places. But the NIA ruled out the pos- sibility of them having any local support. “All local contacts of Pakistani-American national David Coleman Headley were not aware of his real intentions,” said an official . During the investigation, more than 300 witnesses were exam- ined and evidence was collected from several sources. Both Headley and Rana are at present in the custody of the US authorities. The NIA got only a limited access to Headley, who had entered into a plea bargain to escape harsh sentence and extradition to India. Known for his views against Sikh militancy, Pash was killed at the age of 37 by Khalistani terrorists in his native village, Talwandi Salem, in Jalandhar district on March 23, 1988 (Incidentally, Shaheed Bhagat Singh attained martyrdom that day in 1931). The book also reveals that when Pash was kept in solitary confinement in the Jalandhar jail in a false case of murder, he was not allowed to write or read. Pen and papers were smuggled to him in packets carrying bananas and oranges. And he wrote some of his best poems from the jail. NEW DELHI: A day after the DelhiPolice arrested two Babbar KhalsaInternational (BKI) militants, the interrogation has revealed that they have recruit-ed some new cadres to execute plot to assassinate threereligious leaders in Punjab andHaryana, police said.

Sarabpreet Singh andJaswinder Singh were arrestedfollowing inputs that BKI was trying to set-up its base in Delhi for executing their plan during the upcoming Punjabelections. NEW DELHI: The NationalInvestigation Agency has for-mally charge-sheeted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative DavidHeadley, LeT founder HafeezSaeed and seven others onSaturday for their roles in the26/11 Mumbai attacks that left164 people dead and at least atleast 308 wounded.
