And for the Souls of the Departed:

A DAUGHTER REMEMBERS HER MOM ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF HER PASSING: A lovely tribute by Laura Wanek, Mrs. Pat Wanek’s daughter: “I just wanted to let it be known that she loved music, nature, & animals. She bought a doorbell for her cat LC & taught him how to ring the doorbell whenever he wanted inside. He rang it often, & she would get up in the middle of the night

to open the door for him. She loved nature & was always interested in what kind of birds were around, what kind of rock formations were around, etc. She liked river rafting and introduced me to it on the Snake River through my boyfriend who was our river guide. She loved music and played piano with me at church sometimes and at my grandmother’s nursing home. She drove me to many violin lessons and orchestra rehearsals all through my childhood and she came to many of my performances. Everything I play from now on is dedicated to her.” Sadly missed along life's way, quietly remembered every

day...

A Dedication to Our Beloved Mrs. Pat Wanek: May 30th, 1941 ~ December 28th, 2016

Deacon Phil Reminisces

Mrs. Pat (Jones) Wanek, beloved wife of Deacon Phil was born May 30, 1941 in Bozeman, Montana and left this earth to her eternal resting home at 5:20pm the evening of December 28th, 2016. When asked if he remembered a favorite story about childhood that Pat loved to tell, Deacon Phil states “that her father used to read to her as a young girl and from that, she learned to love poetry. But this caring relationship was not to last. As she grew into a youngster, her father would become a threat to her. It was that threat that drove her to excel in her school work and her music,” he continues, “Her command of the English language was superb. She was always grammatically correct and her vocabulary was masterful. She edited professional publications for groups for whom she worked throughout her life. She also edited many of my reflections and homilies.” According to her family, Pat was truly an intellectual thinker, but unless one knew her closely, one would never guess that of her (she was shy and modest over her accomplishments). Her thinking was objective and quantitative. The work that she did on the oscillating neutrino project was truly amazing (as was her work with the classifications and grouping of coal mining waste) and she was rewarded by being the first woman to be raised to the highest status for chemical technicians in the history of the Los Alamos Laboratory. Pat was also a marvelous musician. This was partly due to her natural talent of having perfect pitch. Although she was not skilled in all of the eight different instruments she played (most of which were self-taught), she excelled on the accordion, violin, viola piano and organ. She loved ballet music more than any other but she played a mean polka. A Denver based polka band called her every year to travel to play with them at their annual Octoberfest! While Pat loved playing and listening to classical music primarily, she enjoyed the 1960s era jazz and some country/western (Deacon Phil smiles as he recalls “that it was mostly for the rhythm; she would frequently tap rhythms on her thigh to match a song she would be listening to or remembering in her head and sometimes she would tap out something completely original.”) Deacon Phil and the future Mrs. Pat Wanek met in June of 1962 while working at the Yellowstone Park Hospital in Mammoth, Wyoming. She was employed as the hospital receptionist and as the insurance billing agent for the hospital and for the physicians working at the hospital. Deacon Phil was working there as a medical laboratory technician, x-ray technician and ambulance driver. One of the earliest memories of being together was “our first dates being on the front porch of the hospital, sitting on the swing and fending off the hordes of mosquitoes that attacked us.” Asked about a time when she was most embarrassed, he chuckles as he thinks back to a time when “we were once on an extended camping trip and had not bathed for several days. Being alone at a campground in isolated Montana, we decided to bathe in the river when after we had stripped to the buff, a freight train from across the river invaded our privacy and greeted us by tooting the train whistle. We were both embarrassed!!” He recalls that one of the stories she would tell was about their getting married and how difficult a time it was for the two of them as both sets of parents opposed their marriage. They were married September 1963. Fifty four years of togetherness certainly has defied any opposition they originally received. They both respected each other to discuss big decisions they made that impacted their lives. “Pat and I discussed everything that impacted our lives. We spoke about everything because of our education and experience we were always able to understand each other and each other’s point of view.” His eyes twinkles as he states, “If we differed on something she was almost always correct.” He recalls that the time she went to work for the laboratory and again when she decided to go to graduate school, were some major changes in her life that affected her in big ways. These caused drastic changes in their life style. Changes that their open communication helped further seal their loving respect for each other as they worked together to make things work. Pat made such an impact on Deacon Phil. He is full of gratitude as he recalls, “I am heavily dyslexic but did not know it. Pat taught me how to read at the age of 22 or 23.” Deacon writes lovingly that she was “one of the most gentle, loving and kind individuals you could ever meet and who was deeply forgiving. This beautiful and gracious lady who, in addition, is whimsically remembered as being chronically late (Deacon’s eyes twinkle, “a female trait in her family”) valued truth and honesty, liked the color red (“She liked red but she looked her most lovely self in green.”) and flowers of fragrant roses and lilacs is honored here today on the anniversary of her passing. Deacon, “If you knew she could drop by and visit tomorrow, what would your ideal day spent together look like?” We would cook together, visit and visit and visit with each other and listen to music. What do you wish you had said to her before she passed away? I wish that I had been holding her hand as she crossed over from this life.”

God Bless Mrs. Pat Wanek. May she continue to Rest in Peace. God Bless The Wanek Family.
