Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol carries a message that transcends time. Originally set during the Industrial revolution, the novel reflects upon the economic disparity that rampaged Victorian England as the 1700s became the 1800s. Influenced by films of the 1930s, the version you are seeing performed by our Limelight radio players will take you to the Great Depression – 1929 New York, to be exact. The universal applicability of the story of A Christmas Carol shows that kindness and selflessness are traits that are crucial in any time period, perhaps modern day in particular. At its core, A Christmas Carol is about a man not only overcoming material greed, but also realizing the value in compassion and understanding towards our fellow men. Through this production, we hope to explore that maybe that’s what’s at all of our cores, as well.
