Would itbe to amass as much wealth as possible, become amousso everyone would remember your name, would it be toaccomplish everything on your bucket list beore you die,or would you try to create as much change or the good inthe world as possible? Well, a group o men and women rom the Glasgow-area Churches are doing just that. Trough an organization

In January 2010 an earthquake devastated Haiti soOne Mission Societyresponded by creating a plan to rebuildand build new houses or people who cannot afford to pickthemselves up afer this tragedy. Even five years afer theearthquake there are still plenty o people who need help. One Mission Societyhas asked the questions: i you had anopportunity would you do whatever God asked you to do,would you go wherever God asked you to go, and would

give whatever God asked you to give?In February 2015 Glasgow area churches will be

responding to those questions by sending 15 men andwomen to help build houses, build relationships and bringhope to people who need help. But how do oil changes help Haiti? We want to helpyou with your car care or the winter months ahead bychanging your oil, checking your fluids and tire pressure,as well as a vacuum and window washing. So call or textSeth Runner @ 263-2753 or Nate Ramsey @ 230-0993 oryour appointment or Saturday, December 6th rom 9 a.m.

Six hurdles small retailersface during the holiday seasonby Wayne Gardella, SBAs Montana District Director

Locally-owned small retailers can earn 50 percentor more o total annual sales during the critical holidayshopping period between Black Friday and New Years

Day. Te business choices made during this importantperiod can have direct effects on a small firms cash flowor the entire year. Te SBA surveyed several businesscounselors rom Small Business Development Centersand SCORE to compile this list o the top six hurdlessmall retailers ace during the busy holiday shoppingseason.1. Lack o inventory control. Inventory control is

crucial or all small retailers, especially duringthe busy holiday sales months. It is importantto remember that inventory equals profits, andknowing how much product to order, when to orderit, and what items to order can make the differencebetween having cash in the bank or aging inventoryon the shelves.

    2. Hiring the wrong employees or critical positionsTere is a cost to hiring the wrong people or keypositions. Small firms tend to have less layers omanagement between the owner and the employeesthereore new hires must be able to perorm withless direct supervision and be motivated to get the

job done right the first time. Avoid this issue bywriting a detailed job description and training newemployees on how you want them to represent yourbusiness.

    3. Undercapitalization is a lump o coal no businesswants or needs. Cash flow is the lie blood o alsmall businesses. Cash flow allows a business tomake payroll, pay suppliers, and keep its doorsopen. Business owners can immediately increasecash flow by collecting accounts receivables in a

timely manner; not keeping too much cash tiedup in unnecessary inventory; and eliminatingunprofitable account relationships.

    4. Not embracing online sales and social media. Arecent US Census Bureau report shows that morethan $75 billion in e-commerce sales were madeduring the second quarter o 2014 a 5 percenincrease over the previous quarter. A 2013 study byForrester Research Inc. showed that by 2017 nearly

has their flu serum so stop infor your annual flu injection.

60 percent o all U.S. retail sales will involve the web.As more consumers make holiday purchases usingthe internet, it is imperative that small retailersdevelop a retail web presence. Also, leveragewitter and Facebook to promote one-day salesor plug special product lines and high inventoriedmerchandise.

    5. Not delaying the employee office party and socialevents. It is sales crunch time rom Black Fridayuntil New Years Day. Office parties can causedistractions at a time when the business needs tobe especially productive. oo much ood and drinkcan not only cause a nasty hangover, but sidetrackemployee and managements ocus. Considermoving the company party until afer New YearsDay and call it the annual thank-you event.

    6. Innovation and creativity lost. Historically, locally-owned small retailers beat their big box competitorsby providing outstanding individualized customer

service. Black Friday creep has pushed largeretailers into flooding the market with lost leaderpricing on a wide array o holiday products. Smallretailers should take the offensive by selling creativeand innovative products that cannot be ound atthe local mega mall. Create a unique customerexperience that will draw shoppers to travel outsideo their comort zone and discover that out o theordinary shopping district with ten trendy stores, not 100 traditional chain stores.

For more inormation on ways the SBA can assist yoursmall business this holiday season, visit www.sba.gov orcall the Montana District Office at 406-441-1081.
