The Engaging Leader Program recently graduated its sixth class of 25 front-line supervisors from across the city. The program is the second in a series of leadership development opportunities for those who manage a team. The five-month program is designed to introduce new leadership concepts while applying practical application of skills learned. LATEST GRADS PEARL HARBOR WALK

Just a quick reminder that the city of Phoenix Pearl Harbor Day Walk will

be held tomorrow, Dec 7. It starts at Phoenix City Hall and proceeds to Wesley Bolin Plaza and ends at the anchor from the sunken USS Arizona.

Those interested in participating in the annual event should meet at the main entrance to City Hall and begin to walk at 10:25 a.m. A special military flyover will take place at 10:55 a.m.

If you cannot join the walk, there is another way to offer your support. A tree full of blank postcards is on the 3rd floor of City Hall outside Ben Ernyei’s office. The cards can be filled out to say thanks to our troops who are away from their families and friends over the holidays.

This is a city-recognized event, organized by a city employee on his own time. Employees interested in attending need to ensure coverage for their time away, plus supervisor approval. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ben Ernyei.

HOLIDAY SPIRIT

Phoenix Public Library Admin members held a decorating contest in their temporary space at Calvin C. Goode building. Three teams competed for bragging rights and really got into the holiday spirit.

All three teams ended up on top celebrating the season with a toy drive, a snowman photo cutout frame, laser lights, trees, music, hot cider and a visit from Santa. Stop by the fourth floor to visit their winter wonderland and happy holidays from Phoenix Public Library.

Fragments: Broken Bowls Tell More Tales is a new exhibit at Pueblo Grande Museum and Archeological Park. Using local and traded examples, Fragments invites visitors to see how sherds help archaeologists piece together new ideas about the ancestral O'Odham, more commonly known as the Hohokam. PHXTV looks at what the exhibit is all about in the latest edition of Inside Phoenix.

HOLIDAY DONATIONS

The battle is on for which Arizona alumni will reign supreme. Donations are now being accepted to support the St. Mary’s Food Bank, leading up to the Citywide Holiday Reception and Thank You on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 1:30 - 3 p.m. in the Phoenix City Hall Atrium.

All non-perishable items will be accepted, but the city is focusing on four of the most-wanted items. Your donations will mean points for your university:

ASU - Peanut Butter

UofA - Canned fruit / veggies

GCU - Boxed cereal

NAU - Canned light chicken

Donations are being accepted inside the employee entrance at Phoenix City Hall.

LUNCH AND LEARN

Did you know that city of Phoenix employees can get a discounted annual membership for the Grid Bike Share program. It’s only $80 per year, which includes 60 minutes of riding each day. You can sign up for your membership now.

Grid Bike Share representatives will be available to demonstrate how to use the bikes and answer your bike-share questions. Details:

Ice skating in the middle of downtown Phoenix is up and running. The annual “CitySkate at CityScape” is open to the public. Each Wednesday is “Skate it Forward,” where CityScape will donate a portion of ticket sales to a different local nonprofit organization. On Dec. 13, Phoenix Sister Cities will be the beneficiary of sales. Details:

In addition to the skating, the Sister Cities Committees (made up of volunteers promoting educational, cultural, artistic and business ties with each of our 10 sister cities) will host booths next to the ice rink. People can learn how the holidays are celebrated around the world, pick up some novel gifts and enjoy hot cocoa and other treats.

CITYSKATE FUNDRAISER

Throughout the month of December, the City Hall Atrium will feature a 16-foot tall, 120 water jug pyramid as part of the Phoenix’s Water – Use It Wisely campaign. The display represents how much water one person consumes per day in their home. This is water that is used for washing dishes, taking a shower, watering a landscape, doing laundry, preparing meals, flushing the toilet, brushing teeth, washing hands as well as for drinking. This does not include water that is needed to make everyday objects.

Since we all need water to survive, we should all take part in using it wisely. There are a number of ways to save water, and they all start with you. Information and literature on how to save water and money is provided on the table featuring the tower or available online.

You can still get your 2018 employee calendar. This is a perfect addition to your office or cubicle as it lists all of the city’s paydays and holidays observed. Each calendar is $3 or two for $5. The money goes toward the 2018 CSFD.
