Why Bums on Seats?Put simply, our income is not covering our costs. Priority number one is selling more tickets so that we can keep the doors open.

The Star has been running as an independent, community run, not for profit business for 13 years. Income from ticket, snack bar and membership sales, and advertising, fund our operating costs. We make grant applications to run specific programs or fund special initiatives, but otherwise do not receive financial support from outside sources.

Like any business we are continually reviewing what we do in order to remain viable. Our biggest challenge to date was making the transition from analogue (film) to digital. If we hadn’t done that we would not be here today. This year we introduced on screen advertising, increased ticket prices and streamlined screening times to remove under-attended sessions.

The Star has been a part of the Eaglehawk and wider Bendigo community for 18 years, and is passionately run by volunteers and a small number of staff. We are at the point where we can leave no stone unturned in our pursuit to remain open and that includes appealing to the community for help.

We have every confidence that with your help we can turn the Star’s fortunes around and plan for a bright future in 2018.

See over for ways to contribute, and thank you for your support!
