Wound Dressings

The nectar collected from the Leptospermum Scoparium tree, which ispart of the Tea Tree family, is converted by bees into the ManukaHoney. This honey has an additional phyto-chemical antibacterial effectdue to properties transferred from the nectar. This valuable additionhelps to ensure prolonged antibacterial activity.

Why use Medical Honey?The Unique Manuka Factor is a standardised rating indicating theantibacterial potency of the honey and indicates antibacterialproperties over and above that of the peroxide activity, in wounds aUnique Manuka Factor of 10 or above is recommended.

Activon Medical Grade Manuka Honey (Unique Manuka Factor +12) isfiltered and gamma sterilised to ensure minimal particulate andbacterial contamination whilst maintaining functionality.

When to use ActivonThe Activon range is most suited to wounds that are infected or highlycontaminated but can be used on all wounds to maintain a moistenvironment as shown below.

The Activon RangeActivon Medical Grade Manuka Honey(Unique Manuka Factor +12)Honey is an ancient remedy that has been used to treatwounds for over 2000 years. Many therapeutic properties havebeen attributed to honey including:

• Antibacterial• Autolytic debridement• Wound deodorising• Stimulation of the growth of tissues• Anti-inflammatory activity including pain andoedema reduction

• Maintenance of a moist wound healing environmentActivity• The glucose oxidase within the Manuka Honey releases very lowlevels of hydrogen peroxide in the wound. This facilitates low levelrelease of oxygen which is thought to assist monocyte andmacrophage function.

• The energy rich environment provides substrates for glycolysisand supports the cells involved with repair, remodelling andwound progression.

• The high sugar content draws fluid and proteases from thesurrounding micro-capillaries and tissue into the wound bed viaosmosis. This helps to reduce inflammation and soften wounddebris aiding natural and painless debridement.

• The oxygen release and high sugar environment make it difficult foranaerobic bacteria to thrive, deactivating their activity.

Research by George Winter in the 1960’s pioneeredthe moist wound healing principle stating that a moistenvironment encourages essential cellular activity,collagen formation and the vital contraction process.Wound dressings have subsequently developed tomanage the wound environment more actively bymanaging the factors associated with delayed healing.

Different wounds will require different dressings atdifferent stages of healing. Advanced dressings areprincipally designed to either actively rehydrate a drywound or to absorb and retain excess exudate.Dressings can also offer protection from further trauma,and manage infection and contamination.

Conditions of Sale*

"Supplier" means DECHRA Veterinary Products (a trading divisionof Dechra Ltd) (registered in England and Wales under companynumber 4513124) whose registered office is at Dechra House, JamageIndustrial Estate, Talke Pits, Stoke on Trent ST7 1XW;"Buyer" means the company, firm, body or person purchasing theGoods and/or Services from the Supplier."Goods" means the goods, which the Supplier is to supply inaccordance with these Conditions including (but not limited to)pharmaceuticals, surgical and other instruments, single use productsand non-ethical products."Order" means a purchase order in respect of the Goods and/orServices issued by the Buyer to the Supplier."Services,”means work and/or services or any of them to be performedby the Supplier for the Buyer pursuant to an Order.It should be noted that any description contained in the Supplier'scatalogues, samples, price lists or other advertising material is intendedmerely to present a general picture of the Supplier's Goods or Servicesand shall not form a representation or be part of any contract.

PRICES

All prices shall be as stated by the Supplier.The Supplier reserves the right, by giving notice to the Buyer at any timeprior to delivery of the Goods, to increase the price of the Goods and/orServices to reflect any increase in the cost to the Supplier which is dueto any factor beyond the control of the Supplier, any change in deliverydates, quantities or specifications for the Goods and/or Services whichis requested by the Buyer, or any delay caused by any instructions ofthe Buyer or failure of the Buyer to give the Supplier adequate informationor instructions.There shall be added to the price for the Goods or Services anyapplicable value added tax.Except where Goods are sold outside the United Kingdom all prices aregiven by the Seller on an ex works Shrewsbury basis, unless otherwiseagreed in writing between the Supplier and the Buyer.The Supplier shall be entitled to levy, in addition to the price of the Goodsor Services, a small order charge on order values (excluding VAT) nogreater than £75.00 which will incur a £15.00 charge.Quotations in a currency other than sterling are based on the rate ofexchange at the time of quoting and unless otherwise stated the pricemay be subject to revision up or down if any different rate of exchangeis ruling at the date of invoice.The Supplier may, in its absolute discretion, grant to the Buyer a discounton stated prices for the Goods, provided that payment is received bythe Supplier on the due date. The Supplier shall be entitled to withdrawsuch discount facility at its absolute discretion.

SPECIFICATIONS

The Supplier shall, prior to delivery, be entitled at its sole discretion tosubstitute for the Goods forming the subject of the Order similar goodsfrom the same or an alternative source.

TERMS OF PAYMENT

Subject to any special terms agreed in writing between the Supplier andthe Buyer liability for payment shall arise in respect of Goods supplied,on delivery and in respect of Services supplied, upon completion thereof.The Supplier shall be entitled accordingly to invoice the Buyer for theprice of the Goods and/or Services on or at any time after delivery ofGoods and/or completion of Services, unless, in the case of Goods,these are to be collected by the Buyer or the Buyer wrongfully fails totake delivery of the Goods.If Goods are to be collected by the Buyer or if the Buyer wrongfully failsto take delivery of the Goods, the Supplier is permitted to invoice theBuyer for the price of the Goods at any time after the Supplier hasnotified the Buyer that the Goods are ready for collection or the Supplierhas tendered delivery of the Goods.Unless otherwise agreed by the Supplier, the Buyer shall pay the price

of the Goods within 30 days of the date of the Supplier's invoice.If the Buyer fails to make any payment on the due date then, withoutprejudice to any other right or remedy available to the Supplier, theSupplier shall be entitled to cancel the Contract or suspend any furtherdeliveries or performance under the Contract or any other contract solong as the default continues; and/or charge the Buyer interest (bothbefore and after any judgment) on the amount unpaid at the rate of threeper cent per annum above the base rate of the Bank of Scotland fromtime to time in force calculated on a daily basis until payment in full ismade. The Supplier reserves the right to claim interest under the LatePayment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998; and/or withdraw orcancel immediately any discount for prompt payment, which has beenagreed with or has been granted to the Buyer or to which the Buyer isentitled and debit the Buyer's account accordingly.

Time for payment under the Contract shall be of the essence.

DELIVERY AND COMPLETION DATES

Delivery shall take place when the Goods are unloaded at or delivered tothe Buyer's premises or other delivery location agreed between theSupplier and the Buyer.The dates for delivery of the Goods or for performance of the Servicesare approximate only and time is not of the essence for delivery of theGoods or performance of the Services. The Supplier will use itsreasonable endeavours to complete delivery or performance on or beforedates requested by the Buyer but will not be liable in any circumstancesfor the consequences of any delay in delivery or performance or failureto deliver or perform.Where the Contract provides for delivery by instalments each instalmentshall constitute a separate contract and any delay, failure or defect inany one or more instalments delivered shall not entitle the Buyer to rejector cancel delivery or performance of any further instalment of theContract or any other order from the Buyer or to repudiate the Contract.

EXAMINATION; CLAIMS; RETURN OF GOODS

The Buyer shall examine the Goods upon delivery, or, in respect of thesale of Goods outside the United Kingdom, upon receipt and the Buyershall (a) notify in writing the Supplier and the carrier where relevant within24 hours of the proposed date of delivery of non-delivery or short delivery(b) notify in writing the Supplier and the carrier where relevant within threeworking days of such delivery or receipt of any apparent damage, defector shortage (c) notify in writing the Supplier within three working days ofsuch delivery or receipt of any goods despatched by the Supplier to theBuyer in error.

TITLE TO GOODS

Unless the Contract otherwise stipulates, and subject to Goods soldoutside the United Kingdom risk of damage to or loss of the Goods shallpass to the Buyer at the time of delivery of the Goods or, if the Buyerwrongfully fails to take delivery of the Goods, the time when the Supplierhas tendered delivery of the Goods and the Goods should be insured bythe Buyer accordingly.
