The Ladies for Rizal New Jersey Chapter will hold a declamation contest to honor the memoryand legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines.
This contest is open to Grades 6 to 12 students in New Jersey and New York.
The top three contestants will receive cash prizes and trophies.
Consolation cash prizes will also be awarded.
• First prize: $300 and trophy
• Second prize: $200 and trophy
• Third prize: $100 and trophy
Dr Jose Rizal wrote Mi Ultimo Adiós, a poem written in Spanish, on the eve of his execution onDec. 30, 1896.
This poem was translated to English, My Final Farewell; Tagalog, Ang Aking Huling Paalam,and several languages.
Contestants have a choice to recite the poem in Spanish, English or Tagalog.
These poems are available online.

“We want to impart to our community, particularly the youth, the life of Dr. Jose Rizal and thevalues he espoused and of which he made the ultimate sacrifice, said Lady Eloisa Porto,current president of Ladies for Rizal New Jersey Chapter.
Lady Dr. Vicky Rey is the chairperson of the declamation contest.
The contest will take place at the Jersey City Council Chambers, Jersey City on Dec. 14, 2013.
