Alice in wonderlandThe poster of ‘Alice in wonderland’ is successful in creating an enchanting, magical theme with the use of intense, exaggerated colours. This is very much attractive to the target audience.

Additionally, the cleverly constructed poster adopts this integration of animation with realism, again, bringing about this enchanting fantasy world, in which would largely appeal to its audience.

The intense colours used to gain the attention of the audience finds a great balance. Yes, the poster’s use of colours is enticing, but it doesn’t make the poster look too busy and cluttered.

The decision to use white text for ‘Alice in wonderland’ works well with the background as it contrasts with it. By using white, a rare contribution for the background within the poster, it allows the text to stand out more.

The image of Alice is central within the poster, preventing the exaggerated colours in the background to undermine her importance. The significance of using her in the poster, anchors her importance further.

The contrast between her and the rabbit would stereotypically define their characters, making Alice the authoritative, powerful one, and the rabbit the vulnerable one. However, her child-like posture contradicts this and created this role-reversal

The poster has the typical codes and conventions of a film poster, including the release date.

Toy story 3The use of many colours within the poster certainly entices its target audience. Despite there being no white in the background, the poster works well in not looking overly cluttered.

This poster allows itself to differ from the typical conventions of others. As the film is so well known, the iconic characters and logo influenced “3” allows the audience to know what film it is without presenting the full title if the film, “Toy Story 3”.

The use of white text for the release date works very well with the background. As the white contrasts against the emphasised colours behind it, it allows itself not to e overwhelmed and lose its importance.

The positioning of the poster is very attractive and appeals to the target audience and in a sense, seems deliberately child-influenced. The inclusion of each character within the film allows the audience to familiarise themselves with them again. With the two main characters of the film, woody and Buzz, holding up the number “3” their significance is made obvious.

The image of the number “3” seems to be the most significance of the poster, as it is centrally placed, and it’s format is that of the “toy story” logo. The size and colours used within the number further emphasises its significance within the poster.

Despite distancing itself from the stereotypical conventions of a film poster, it does contain the important release date, and producer Pixar, and distributers, Disney.

Sherlock HolmesThe clear protagonists ae paced centrally in the poster. Robert Downey Junior is placed slightly in front of Jude Law, suggesting his significance. Both characters are engaging in the gaze as a means of attracting the audience.

The colour scheme is fluent, displaying blue and white. The blue tint creates this almost authoritative tone, which is semantic to the theme of the film. The only contrasting colour upon the page is the release date, displayed in a bold red. This is attractive and also denotes Christmas. Clearly the film is set in this festive holiday.

The rest of the noted cast is placed on either side of the two protagonists. This brings about symmetry within the product. They two are engaging in the gaze. This brings about this relation between the audience and the characters. However these images are slightly distorted and are much smaller than the main characters.

The pun used in the tagline is very witty, almost mimicking the persona of Sherlock himself.

The title is places above the two protagonists, implying its importance. The bold, white colours contrast greatly upon the blue background.

The poster contains cast and credit information, as well as the release date, supplying audiences with necessary information.
