Preventive Maintenance

A regularly scheduled, load dependant preventive maintenance program is recommended to keep your KATO unit performing at its best. Let the specialists at KATO develop and assist in executing a preventive maintenance plan that takes into account your needs and those of your KATO products.

KATO offers comprehensive, scheduled PM services to be performed anywhere and on time.

Remedial Maintenance

Factory-trained personnel are available to assist in evaluating your product to determine if it is operating properly and recommend maintenance procedures that can boost performance and/or avoid a catastrophic event from occurring. To further meet your precise needs, maintenance contracts with KATO authorized personnel at your site are available at any requested interval.

Conditioning Monitoring

KATO service personnel know the critical components and assemblies to monitor and are equipped with the right tools and meters when performing an on-site inspection to determine the overall condition of your product. Bearing temperature, stator temperature, insulation resistance, vibration analysis and air gap trends are not guessed at but are carefully studied and evaluated. Benchmarking these critical items can be the difference in uptime.

KATO customers send their generators back to the factory to undergo the remanufacturing process for a number of reasons: the timing coincides with an engine overhaul, special or critical applications must be met, there is a need for increased trust in the final product, or even due to a catastrophic failure.

KATO remanufacturing results in the return of an as-new generator that includes any factory updates and/or engineering changes since it was first constructed. At the end of the process, the as-new generator is shipped with a 12-month warranty.

The remanufacturing process involves three separate phases:

Initial Phase

Once the unit is received by KATO, the remanufacturing process goes into full swing beginning with disassembly, inspection and a detailed health report on the unit’s overall existing condition along with an estimate for the remanufacturing by KATO.

Upon customer approval, the unit is released for remanufacturing.

If a generator needs a failure analysis, affected components are measured and thoroughly inspected. This helps KATO and the user determine the root cause of the failure and identify any problems to help prevent it from reoccurring.

Production Phase

Generators brought in for remanufacturing go through the same production lines as newly built generators. All new windings are sized, formed and specially taped by factory experts who may have produced the original windings long ago. All parts are balanced and tested to as-new specifications. The craftsmen’s consistency and attention to detail in the many intricate processes result in a high-quality generator with superb on-site performance.

Final Phase

Following reassembly, each unit undergoes a battery of tests to verify compliance requirements. Those results are also compared against the original tests when it was first constructed to insure the generator is meeting the same specifications as when it was new.
