COMMENTS FROM THE ''EDITOR" As I write this column, the staff

has just completed the entire lay­out of our very first yearbook. Some of you may wonder what in­spired me (i.e., what-in-the-devil got into me) to push tor this pro­ject in the first place. I have never worked on a yearbook before, and after months of a lot more work than I expected, I must say that I don't know why I ever suggested a yearbook - perhaps temporary insanity. Many other law schools have their own yearbooks, howev­er, including T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Rich­mond. Surely, we cannot let Mar­shall-Wythe be outdone! Seriously, I am very proud of our school, an~ I would like something special to help me remember my years here.

I hope also that the yearbook will continue and grow over the next several years.

At this point, I would particularly like to thank the devoted members of the staff who have spent many hours working on this yearbook. Their creativity and endurance ap­peared to be limitless. Also, I thank the other student organizations for supporting us by having their pic­tures taken for the yearbook; I am especially grateful to the Black Law Student Association, the In­ternational Law Society, the Envi­ronmental Law Society, the Mar­shall-Wythe Christian Fellowship, and the Phi Delta Phi Law Fraterni­ty for their generous monetary contribut ions to this project . The Marshall-Wythe School of Law Environmental Law Society (ELS) is an organization of taw students Interested In promoting the Improvement ol our environment and the efficient use of natural resources through education and research. From its inception In 1972, the purpose of the ELS has been to provide specialized pr~ramming for students interested In environmental law and policy. Throughout the academic year the group oilers a variety of educational and social activities, such as speakers. films, and outings.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW SOCIETY

INTERNATIONAL LAW SO-CIETY The International Law Society promotes discussion of current topics of international law through an annual

lecture series. This year's lectures ranged from suits in admiralty to modern application of the laws of war. Included among the speakers was the internationally renowned author, academian and attorney, Professor Telford Taylor, who is best known for his role as chief U.S. prosecutor at the 1946 Nazi war trials.

Short ly after the Watergate trial, Jeb Magruder said, " I climbed all the way to the top of the ladder only to find that I had it leaning up against the wrong wall." During the busy years of law school, students often make the same mistake and lose sight of the truly important things in life. By emphasizing spiritual values and by aiding students in developing a personal relationship with Christ, the Marshall-Wythe Christian Fellowship enables its members to keep a proper perspective on life's priorities.

Phi Delta Phi is the nation's oldest and largest legal fraternity. At Marshall-Wythe, our fraternity helps to alleviate some of the negative aspects of law school by offering social events and a sup­port group. Our fraternity reflects a good cross-section of the student body.
