Dee Van Houten is a professional, award-winning freelance artist who is highly qualified with over 20 years experience in the art field. She can offer your company expert, hand-drawn or painted illustrations for your specific needs. Designs include animated web banners, greeting cards, note cards, calendars, tote bags tee shirts, posters and many home decor products. Gouache, watercolor, pen&ink, graphite and color pencil are her working mediums, Long or short term projects are welcome. Toward the end of the presentation, there a several splash pages (a fast-loading, short advertisement that does not look long and boring to read) that Dee has designed for websites and/or traffic exchanges. I was awarded a commission to design this original gouache illustrative painting (reproduced as designer posters) for the 2006 New Orleans Mardi Gras.

Napoleon Pen&Ink

I was commissioned to design this original pen&ink illustration for Napoleons Restaurant in Warrenton, Virginia. The design was reproduced for numerous usage such as menus, business cards, ads, signs and as their logo.

The technique I used is called 'Stippling' which are separate, tiny dots of ink to form the very detailed design.


This was a commission for my client who wanted a large painting of his dog. It was created in a stylized-realist style.

Christmas Greeting Cards

The following slides show Dee Van Houten's Christmas fine art greeting cards which are entirely hand-painted in a charming and whimsical style with much attention given to delicate details. Inside sentiments are also written by her.

These cards are published and distributed by DevaArt Studio. They were printed in 4-color, off-set lithography (this was before I went digital to print). The cards are carefully shrink-wrapped and shipped via a certified parcel carrier. All card sets are packaged in a clear box. This unique set of seven different designs capture subjects that are very appealing, creating the warm feeling of the holiday spirit with a sense of fascination and whimsy.
