What are personal devotions?

•More than our outward ACTIONS•A time for intimacy & communication with God•A way God works in us to make us more like JESUS. (Phil. 1:6)

Why have devotions regularly?

•To understand GOD and His WILL.•To DEEPEN our relationship with God.•To maintain FELLOWSHIP with God.

Why have devotions regularly?

•To be MOTIVATED to do His will.•To deepen our devotion to GOD.•To revolutionize our weekly WORSHIP experience.

General principles:

Don’t have devotions out of DUTY; See it as

a privilege! (John 17:3)

Choose an OPTIMAL time for a daily routine. (1 Tim. 4:7b-8)

Choose a quiet place, free from DISTRACTIONS.

(Luke 5:16)

Have a regular

ROUTINE.

Ask God to SPEAK to you through your devotions.

Start with BIBLE reading.

MEDITATE on

what you read.

PRAYER is an essential element.

Always include THANKSGIVING

to God. (Phil. 4:6)

REFLECT on what you have read with a view

toward personal APPLICATION. (James

1:22)
