MILITARYAVIATIONTECHNOLOGY-INTHEAIRCORPS:2020 Thisdocument isdividedintotwoparts:Part1detailsthegoverningconditionsandthequalifications required for the offer of a place as an Air Corps Apprentice AircraftTechnician in the Air Corps. Part 2 contains general information on the trainingprogramme, as well as a general guide to the terms and conditions of service in thePermanentDefenceForce.
IMPORTANTApersonapplyingtojointheAirCorpsasanApprenticeAircraftTechnician,shouldreadthese terms and conditions carefully prior to completing the application form. Anapplicationformshouldonlybesubmittediftheapplicantissatisfiedthattheyfulfilallofthetermsandconditionsdetailed.
Exceptions to the conditions governing the competition cannot be made in individualcircumstances.Malesandfemalesmayapplyonanequalbasis.
PART1 CONDITIONSGOVERNINGTHEOFFEROFAPLACETOBECOMEANAIRCORPSAPPENTICEAIRCRAFTTECHNICIANINTHEAIRCORPS
1.GENERALQUALIFICATIONS
Toqualify,acandidateshallatthetimeofapplicationbe:
(i) acitizenoftheState,or
be any other person who has a lawful entitlement to reside and
workwithintheStatefortheperiodoftimethatisrequiredforthepurposeofanysuchappointment.
(ii) beofgoodcharacterandsatisfyanysecurityclearancerequirement.
(iii)meet therequired minimum standards ofmedical and physicalfitness.
2.AGEREQUIREMENTCandidates must be 18 years of age or above and under 23 years of age on
31stMarch2020. Please note that theupper age limitmaybe the subject of review in advance offutureCompetitions.
3.MINIMUMEDUCATIONALQUALIFICATIONS
CandidatesmusthaveattainedtherequiredminimumeducationalqualificationsatthetimeofentryintotheAirCorps.
On enlistment, a candidate must have obtained specific minimum grades in theLeavingCertificate/NationalEquivalent.Thestandardminimumentryrequirementsarepassesinfivesubjects,atordinarylevel,includingMathematics,EnglishorIrishorNational Equivalent qualification and one of the following subjects: Physics,Chemistry, Engineering, Construction Studies or other STEM subject (scientific,technical, engineering, mathematical). Foundation Level and Leaving Cert Appliedsubjectsarenotreckonable.
PleasenotethatthespecificminimumgradesintheLeavingCertificate/NationalEquivalent may be the subject of review in advance of futurecompetitions.
A successful candidate will be enrolled in the Bachelor Engineering Tec (Ord)AviationTechnologyDegreei.e.DT011,whichisthecivilprogrammeofferedbytheaccrediting Academic Institute –Technological University Dublin. All Air CorpsApprentice Technicianswill sit the EuropeanAviation SafetyAgency (EASA) Par 66Modules to obtain theoretical knowledge for EASA B1.1(FW Turbine) or B1.3 (RWTurbine)orB2(avionics)licenserequirements.All students will be registered with SOLAS and on successful completion of therequirementssetoutintheAircraftMechaniccurriculumwillbeawardedaNationalCraftCertificate.
4.MEDICALANDPHYSICALSTANDARDS
Candidatesmustbeingoodmentalandbodilyhealthandfreefromanyphysicaldefect,abnormality, physiological condition or history of serious illness likely to interferewiththeefficientperformanceofhis/herMilitaryduties.
a.Height:
The minimum height requirement is 157.48 cm. Physical standardsandweightmustbeinkeepingwithheightandage.
b.Vision:Visionmustbenot less than6/36 in eacheye, corrected tonot lessthan6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other. Normal night and colour vision arerequired. Both eyes must be free from disfiguring or incapacitatingabnormality and free from acute or chronic disease. There must be noevidenceofsquintorlatentsquint.Theeligibility,ornot,ofapplicantswhohavehadpreviousincisionalorlasertreatmenttocorrectvisualacuitywillbedeterminedattheMedicalExamination.PleaseseeAnnexBforfurtherinformation.'
c.Dental:
Candidatesmustbefreefromanyseriousperiodontaldiseaseandpossessteethtoaspecificstandard,whichisnotlessthantheequivalentofelevenoverelevennatural teeth functionallyopposed. In certain circumstances,artificialteethmaybeacceptable.
d.Hearing:
Agoodstandardofunaidedhearingisessential.Candidateswillberequiredtoundergoaudiometricexaminationatwhich:
(1)Thesumof thehearing thresholdat 1,2,3,4and6kHz shouldnotexceedtheageandgender related warning levels containedin the"Guidelines on Hearing Checks and Audiometry Regulations 2007",issuedbytheHealthandSafetyAuthority.
(2)Candidatesmustbeabletohearallmeasuredpuretonesuptoandincluding8kHzat20dBineachear.Candidatesmustalsobefreefromacuteorchroniceardisorders.
Candidatesareadvisedtoavoidallsourcesofloudnoiseandmusicforaperiodof48hours prior to this examination as exposure to such noise may adversely affect theresultsoftheexamination.
5.APPLICATIONFORM
Candidatesmustapplyonlinetowww.military.ie
ApplicationsforanAirCorpsApprenticeAircraftTechnicianmustbemadeontheofficialelectronicapplicationformavailableatwww.military.ie.Candidateswishingtoundertakethe assessment process through Irish must highlight this request in their on-lineapplication.Theclosingdateforreceiptofapplicationsis31stMarch2020. All correspondence with candidates will be done by email for the duration of thecompetition.Candidatesshouldensuretheemailaddressgiven isaccurateandcorrect.
Eachapplicationisacknowledgedautomaticallywithin24hours.Ifanacknowledgementisnot receivedwithin48hoursof applying, candidates should immediatelycontact theDefenceForcesRecruitmentSectionat:045492553/[email protected]

APPLICANTSCHECKLIST:
Before submitting an application for an Air Corps Apprentice Aircraft Technician andplacement on the training programme, applicants should ensure that they; satisfy theeligibilitycriteriaandhavereadandacceptthegoverningconditionsofthisCompetition.
6.SELECTIONPROCEDURE
Candidates,ifselected,willberequiredtoattendforthevariousstagesoftheselectionprocedureonthedatesandtimesasnotifiedbyemail.Candidateswhofailtoattendforanystageoftheselectionprocedurewillbedisqualifiedfromparticipationinanyfurtherstagesofthatcompetition.
Stage1–OnlinePsychometricTesting
a.Stage1oftheselectionprocedureinvolvesteststhatmeasurearangeofskills
andqualitiesthatarenecessaryinthejob.Thesetestsprovideaconsistentandsuitable way of screening candidates at the initial stage of the selectioncampaign.Thesetestsaredesignedtoidentifythemostsuitablepeopletogoforwardtothenextstageofthecompetition.Thetestshavebeendesignedsothattheyarefairtoallapplicantsandareobjectivelyscored.Candidateswillberequiredtocompleteanunsupervisedpsychometrictestonline.
b.Candidateswillbesuppliedwithpsychometrictestfamiliarisationmaterial inordertointroducethemtotheformatofthetests.
c. CandidateswillberequiredtocompletetheunsupervisedonlinepsychometrictestwithinthetimeframespecifiedbytheDefenceForces.
d.Candidatesshouldpayparticularattentiontoensuringthatthecontactdetailsspecified on their application are correct.
e.Candidateswhohaveattainedtherequisitescoreintheunsupervisedonlinepsychometric test, at Stage 1 will be required to attend for a subsequentsupervisedonlinepsychometrictestatStage2.
Note:IfacandidatefailstomeettheminimumstandardatStage1,theywillnotbepermittedtoproceedtothenextstageofthecompetition
Stage2–PhysicalFitnessandSuitabilityAssessments
a. Air Corps candidates who have attained the requisite score at Stage 1 of the
competition,will be required to attend forPhysical Fitness TestingandAviationAssessmentsaspartoftheCompetition.
Physical FitnessTest: All eligible candidates (to include servingmembers of thePermanent Defence Force) will initially be called to undergo a Physical Fitnessassessment, which is designed to test their potential to endure the rigours ofmilitarytraining(seeAnnexC).
TheSuitabilityAssessmentwillconsistofthefollowing:
SupervisedPsychometricTests:CandidateswillberequiredtoundergosupervisedPsychometric Tests. . If a candidate’s performance at a supervised test is outside theexpectedscoringrangefromtheirunsupervisedtestatStage1,theymaybeexcludedfromsubsequentstagesoftheselectionprocess.
PsychomotorandCognitiveTesting:Candidateswillberequiredtocompletebothpsychomotorandcognitivetesting.
Note: If a candidate fails to meet the minimum standard of any part of thePhysicalFitnessTest,ortheSuitabilityAssessmentstheywillnotbepermittedtoproceedtothenextstageofthecompetition.
Stage3–TheInterview
a. Successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency based interview
where they will be required to demonstrate competency in a selection of thefollowingareas:
• Teamwork• AbilitytoWorkUnderPressure• TechnicalAptitude.• MilitaryCareerOrientation.• PersonalMotivation
b.Inthecompetencybasedinterview,candidateswillbeaskedtogiveexamplesfromtheirownexperiencesof life,school,universityhobbies,work,pastimes,etc.,todemonstrateevidenceinseveraloftheaboveareas.CandidateswhofailanyofthecompetenciesatFinalInterviewwillbedeemedunsuccessfulinthecompetition.
c. InterviewlocationsincludeCasementAerodrome,AirCorpsHQ,Baldonnel,Dublin
22andvariousotherMilitaryPosts.
d.MembersofthePermanentDefenceForcewhoapplyforthisCompetitionandwhomeetalltheeligibilitycriteriawillbeaffordedtheopportunitytocompeteintheSelectionProcess.
e.Candidatesmaybringtotheirinterview,originaldrawings,photographs,orother
originaldocumentationrelatingtoexaminationsorotherprojectswhichtheyhavecompletedandarerelevanttotheirapplication.
f. Candidateswhoaresuccessfulattheinterviewstagewillberequiredtoundergoa
detailedmedicalexamination,includingaudiometrictest.Themedicalexaminationwill include the provision of urine and blood samples. As part of the medicalexaminationacandidatewillalsoberequiredtogivefullandaccurateinformationon his/her family medical history as requested by the examining Doctor. Thisdetailedmedicalexaminationispartoftheselectionprocessanddoesnot implythatacandidatehasqualifiedforaplaceontheprogramme.
7.EXPENSES
ACandidate,otherthanamemberoftheDefenceForces,isliableforallexpensesincurredin connection with his/her attendance for interview, medical examinations or on firstreportingforenlistment.
8.EMPLOYEEVETTINGBYANGARDASÍOCHÁNA.
Candidates who are invited to attend before an Interview Board will be required tocomplete and sign a Garda Vetting Application Form. This will, pursuant to the DataProtectionAct,2018,authoriseAnGardaSíochánatofurnishtotheMilitaryAuthorities,astatementthattherearenoconvictionsrecordedagainstthecandidate,orifapplicable,astatementofconvictions.
9.OFFEROFPLACEMENT
Following interview, medical and physical examinations and security clearance beingobtained, successful candidates high enough on the order of merit will be offered aplacement in the Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Military Aviation Technologyprogramme, by theMinister for Defence, whose decisionis final.The enlistmentofsuccessfulcandidatestotherankofApprenticewillbesubjecttothefollowing:
a. Thecandidatepassingapre-enlistmentmedicalexaminationonreporting
for enlistment. This examination is in addition to the detailed medicalexaminationatParagraph4above.
b. Acandidatewhoisofferedaplacementmustreportforenlistmentatthe
requiredtimeandplace.FailuretoreportfordutywillresultintheofferofaplacetobecomeanAirCorpsApprenticeAircraftTechnicianintheAirCorpsbeingforfeited.
10.CONDITIONSOFENLISTMENT
a. SuccessfulcandidateswillberequiredtoenlistforserviceintheAirCorpsforatotalperiodoftwelveyears(comprisingnineyearsinthePermanentDefenceForceandthreeyearsintheReserveDefenceForce)shouldtheyfulfilsuchcriteriaasmaybelaiddownbytheDeputyChiefofStaff(Support)inregardstosuchmattersasconductrating,physicalfitnessandmedicalcategory.
b. Successful candidates appointed from this competition, who are already
serving in the Permanent Defence Force, will be discharged andimmediatelyre-enlistedintherankofApprentice.
c. Candidatesmay thenbe re-engaged for such aperiod aswillmake up a
continuousperiodof21yearsofserviceshouldtheyfulfilsuchcriteriaaslaiddownbytheDeputyChiefofStaff(Support)inregardstosuchmattersas conduct rating, physical fitness and medical category. For thoseenlisting since 1 January 1994, the maximum service in the PDFapplicable tothe rankofPrivateandCorporalis21years.
d. However, a currently serving member who enlisted in the Permanent
Defence Force on or after 1 Jan 1994 may, subject to Defence ForceRegulationsandtomeetingcertaincriteriaandconditions,bepermittedtocontinueinserviceuptotheageof50yearsintherankofSergeantandtotheageof56yearsinallhigherenlistedranks.
e. Successful candidates will be registered with and have their training
accreditedbytheTechnologicalUniversityofIreland.
f. Anapprenticeshipwillbewithdrawnfromanapprenticeif:
- Theyfailtoshowsatisfactoryprogressatanytimeduringthecourseoftraining,orfailstopasstheexaminationsrequiredto
progressonthecourse,orfailstodevelopthequalitiesrequisiteforthesatisfactorycompletionofthecourse,oriftheirconductorserviceisunsatisfactory;or
- AsaresultofexaminationbyaMedicalBoard,they,atanytime,arefoundtobeinamedicalcategorylowerthanthatprescribed;or
- Attheirownwrittenrequest.
Anapprenticefromwhomanapprenticeshiphasbeenwithdrawn(exceptasaresultoftheresultsofaMedicalBoardexaminationasoutlinedabove),willbepermittedtoseekdischargebypurchasefromtheDefenceForces,or, subject to the recommendation of theirCommanding Officer,will bepermittedtoremainintheDefenceForcesasalinesoldier.Anapprenticewho is permitted toremain in the Defence Forces as a line soldier,andwhohaspreviousserviceintheDefenceForces,willbeboundbythetermsoftheirnewenlistment.
g. A candidate leaving the Permanent Defence Force voluntarily following
theirdateofattestation,willberequiredtopaysuchcostfordischargeasisspecifiedinDefenceForcesRegulations.
h. Onsuccessfulcompletionoftraining,Apprenticeswillnormallybeposted
toaircraftmaintenancedutiesintheAirCorps.i. Personnelof thePermanentDefenceForcemayatany timeberequired
toserveoutsidetheState.
j. Successful candidateswill be required to undertake compulsory randomdrugtestingthroughouttheircareerintheDefenceForcesinaccordancewithDefenceForceRegulationA7.
PART2
GUIDETOTHEAIRCORPSAPPRENTICEAIRCRAFTMAINTENANCETRAININGPROGRAMME2019.
THEAIRCORPS
TheAirCorpscurrentlyoperatestwentysixaircraft inmulti-rolenationalaviationtasks.ThetypesofaircraftincludeLearjet45,CASACN235maritimepatrolaircraft,PilatusPC-9Maswellasavarietyoftrainingaircraft.TheAirCorpsalsooperatesEurocopterEC135andAugustaWestlandAW139helicopters.
TheprimaryroleoftheAirCorpsistoprovidesupporttotheArmy,NavalServiceandAnGardaSíochánaincounteringthreatstoStatesecurityonland,seaandair.Inaddition,thedaytodaypeacetimeroleof theAirCorps includesactivitiessuchasMaritimeSurveillance, Fishery Protection, Garda Air Support Unit, Ministerial Air Transport,EmergencyAeromedicalServiceandAirAmbulance.
TheAirCorpstrains itsownMilitaryPilotOfficers,MilitaryAircraftTechnicians,MilitaryAir Traffic Controllers, Air Photographers and General Service personnel. Air CorpspersonnelmayserveoverseasasmandatedbyGovernment.
THEAIRCORPSAPPRENTICEAIRCRAFTTECHNICIANPROGRAMME
The purpose of the Air Corps Apprentice Aircraft Technician programme is to providemilitaryaircrafttechniciansfortheAirCorps.TheprogrammeofferssuccessfulcandidatestheopportunityofbecominganefficientanddisciplinedmemberoftheAirCorpsaswellastheopportunitytopursuethecareerforwhichs/heisselected.
Thesystemoftrainingisofthehigheststandard,whichshouldensuretheattainmentofthe highest qualifications. The training programme in the Air Corps Technical TrainingSchoolhasbeendevelopedtoprovideabinitiotechnicaltraining.TheprogrammeofferssuccessfulcandidatestheopportunityofbecominganefficientanddisciplinedmemberoftheAirCorps.
TheprogrammeisaimedatmeetingthecurrentandfutureemploymentneedsoftheAirCorps by providing graduates with a Level 7 Degree. The programme offers aninterdisciplinary approach in which the students obtain a mix of technological andoperationalskillsspecificallyrelatedtoIrishMilitaryaviationrequirements.
TheprogrammewillbedeliveredintheTechnicalTrainingSchooloftheAirCorpsCollegeorinanyotherplaceasdesignatedbytheGeneralOfficerCommandingtheAirCorps.
The programme complies with the Technological University Dublin Education Awardsunder the National Framework of Qualifications. Graduates of this Programmewill beeligibleforthefollowingaward–BachelorofEngineeringTechnologyinMilitaryAviationTechnology (B.Eng. Tech.) on completion of the requisite modules. All Air CorpsApprenticeAircraftTechnicianswillsittheEuropeanAviationSafetyAgency(EASA)Part66modulestoobtaintheoreticalknowledgeforEASAB1.1(FixedWingTurbine)orB1.3(RotaryWingTurbine),orB2 (Avionics) licence requirements. On the successful completion of the Air Corp Apprentice Aircraft Technicianprogramme,thenewlyqualifiedAircraftTechnicianwillbecomeanintegralpartof the Air Corpsmaintenance team providingmaintenance backup to the AirCorpsAircraftFleet. AircraftTechniciansarenormallybasedwithanAirCorpsunit within the State as well as being liable for duties overseas with thePermanentDefenceForce.
MILITARYTRAINING TheMilitary syllabus isdesigned todevelop thecharacter,moraleanddisciplineof theApprenticeandto instil intohim/herakeennessforsoldiering.This isachievedthroughinteractionbetweenvariousmilitaryskillsanddisciplinesandthemilitarywayoflife.
Thesyllabusincludesriflemarksmanship,juniorleadership,mapreading,tacticaltraining,foot drill and other basic military skills. Much attention is also given to the physicaldevelopmentoftheApprentice,throughbothphysicalandadventuretraining.
AcandidateonenteringthePermanentDefenceForcewillundergoatleasttwentynine(29)weeksofmilitarytrainingpriortothecommencementofhis/herApprenticeAircraftTechnicianprogramme.All training isorganised and conducted in a strict, uniformanddisciplinedmanner.
PHYSICALTRAINING
AllApprenticesareencouragedtoparticipateinsport.Theprincipalteamsportsarerugby,hurling,Gaelicfootball,soccer,volleyballand basketball. Athletics, orienteering, andvariousothersportsandrecreationmayalsobepursued.
TECHNICALTRAINING
Fullyqualifiedlecturersprovidetechnicaltraining.Inaddition,AircraftTechnicians, atanytime,uponcompletionoftheAirCorpsApprenticeAircraftTechnicianProgramme,maybeassignedtofurther technical trainingcourses inmilitaryorcivilianestablishments inIrelandorabroad. ProvisionsofDefenceForcesRegulationsonMilitaryEducationandTrainingwillapply.
Note:TheGOC,AirCorpsreservestherighttodetailthoseattherankofApprenticeforsuch duties, which may arise from time to time, subject to service exigencies andrequirements.13.PERIODOFAIRCORPSAPPRENTICEAIRCRAFTTECHNICIANPROGRAMME
Theperiodoftrainingisapproximatelyfouryears.Thisperiodofserviceisregardedasaprobationaryperiod.IfanApprenticeisreportedbyhis/herCommandingOfficerasbeingunlikelytobecomeefficientorasbeingotherwiseunsatisfactoryorfailstocompletethetrainingprogrammesuccessfully, s/hemaybedischarged fromthePermanentDefenceForce.
14.PAY,ALLOWANCESandPRSI
EnlistedpersonnelpayPRSIcontributionsunderClassH,whichinsuresthemfortherangeofbenefitsundertheSocialInsurancecode,includingtheStatePension(Contributory).

CurrentlyanAirCorpsApprenticeAircraftTechnicianispaidonaweeklybasisbymeansofelectronicfundstransfertoadesignatedfinancialinstitution.
15.OCCUPATIONALPENSIONARRANGEMENTS
MembersofthePermanentDefenceForce(PDF)mayqualifyforoccupationalpensionandretirement gratuity (collectively called superannuation benefits) subject to meetingcertaintermsandconditions.Aperson’sdateof first joiningthePDFandwhethertheyhave any previous Public Service employment will generally decide their specificoccupationalpensionterms.Successfulcandidatesappointed fromthiscompetitionwillberequiredtopayappropriateemployeepensioncontributionsfromweeklypay,aswellas the ‘additional superannuation contribution’ (ASC). In general, anyone joiningpensionablepublic serviceemploymentonor after1 January2013 is amemberof theSinglePublicServicePensionScheme.

18.LEAVEANDHOLIDAYS

Itshouldbenotedthatthisannualleaveprovisioniscurrentlycalculatedona7daybasis.This is currently being reviewed as part of a wider review and standardisation of thenumberofdaysofannual leaveandholidays inthePublicServicegenerally and inthatregardmay be subject to adjustment on an ongoing basis in accordancewith changesapplicableacrossthePublicServiceasperGovernmentpolicy19.SICKLEAVE SickLeavemaybegrantedinaccordancewiththeprovisionsofDefenceForceRegulationA.12(MedicalTreatment)andDefenceForcesRegulationS.3(PayandAllowances).

RETIREMENTBENEFITS
Introduction
(a) Ingeneral,anyonejoiningpensionablepublicserviceemploymentonorafter1January 2013 is amember of the Single Scheme. This Scheme applies to allmilitarypersonnelwhojointhePermanentDefenceForce(PDF)from1January2013onwardsasfirst-timenewentrantstothePublicService.
TheSingleSchemealsoappliesifyouareaformerpensionablepublicservantwhore-joins thePublic Service ina pensionable positiononor after 1 January2013,withabreakofmorethan26weeksbetweenpublicserviceemployments.
SingleScheme– summaryofmainelementsforPDFmembers
• ItisadefinedbenefitschemebasedonCareer-AverageEarnings.
• Retirementbenefits–pensionandlumpsum–areprimarilybasedon%of
pensionable earnings throughout your public service career as a SingleSchememember.
• PDFmemberspaya7.5%employeecontributionfromsalarytowardstheir
Single Scheme benefits, as well as an Additional SuperannuationContribution(ASC)–seeNotes1and2below.
• Eachyear,youbuildupmoneyamountsonafastaccrualbasistowardsyour

period,paymentofyourretirementbenefitsisnormallydeferredtoage68. 1 ThevestingperiodfortheSingleSchemeis2years,theminimumlengthoftimeyoumustpayemployeecontributionsinto the schemebeforebecomingeligible for retirementbenefits.Thevesting period forpersonnelwhojoinedthePDFbetween1April2004and31December2012isalso2years.
(Age68isthequalifyingageforContributoryStatePension(CSP)fromtheDepartmentofEmploymentAffairsandSocialProtection,foranyonebornsince1961).
• Retirementpension(butnotlumpsum)is integratedwiththeSocial
Insurancesystem–seeparagraph(b)below.
• ThereisnocaponthelengthoftimeoverwhichmemberscanbuildpensionbenefitsundertheSingleScheme.
• Transferring retirement benefits to Single Scheme from other
employments:
Ø TheoptionforamemberoftheSingleSchemetotransfer-inbenefitsfrom private sector pension schemes will be generally available,subjecttocertaintermsandconditions.
Ø If, before joining the Single Scheme, you hold deferred retirementbenefitsfrompreviousemploymentsundera‘pre-2013’PublicServicepension scheme, you cannot transfer those benefits to the SingleScheme. Thosebenefitsremaintobeadministeredunderyourearlierpre-2013pensionscheme.
Ø IfyouholddeferredbenefitsundertheSingleSchemefromanearlier
Single Scheme employment, you do not need to arrange for their“transfer” because it is the same Single Scheme in place across thePublicService.
• Thereisprovisionforimmediateretirementbenefitsifcompulsorilyretired
onmedicalgrounds,andfordeathinservicebenefits(dependentspensionsanddeathlumpsum).
• Following retirement, increases to Single Scheme pension are linked to
inflation. (b) IntegrationofretirementpensionwiththeSocialInsurancesystem:
New entrants to the Public Service on or after 6 April 1995, includingCommissionedOfficersinthePDF,areinsurableforfullPRSI.Forthisreason,publicserviceretirement(orspouse's/civilpartner’s)pensionsaresubjecttointegrationwiththeStateSocial InsurancesysteminaccordancewithstandardPublicServicearrangements.Thismeansthataperson’sentitlementtotherangeofSocialInsurance benefits (including the Contributory State Pension) is taken intoaccount when calculating the amount of retirement pension payable. In anintegrated pension scheme, the Contributory State Pension (CSP) is regardedaspart of the employee’s total pension package. Under standard Public Servicearrangements, this integration of retirement pension with the Social Insurance
systemappliesfromthetimetheretirement(orspouse’s/civilpartner’s)pensioncommences payment. Thismeans the retirement pension is adjusted (reduced)fromthestartbyaSocialInsuranceStatePensionoffset,regardlessofwhetherthepersonhas reached Contributory State Pension age (66-68). Integration appliesto retirementpensionandalso toemployeecontributions,butnot to retirementlumpsum.
(c) Employeepensioncontributions:
• Note 1 – The 7.5% Single Scheme contribution is comprised of 4.2% of net
pensionableremuneration (whichmeanspensionableremuneration lesstwicethemaximumrateofStatePensionContributorypayablefromtimetotimetoa person who has no adult or child dependants) plus 3.3% of pensionableremuneration.
• Note2–Subjecttocertainexemptionthresholds,allPublicServantswhoare
inpensionableemployment–includingmembersofthePDF–arealsoliabletopay an Additional Superannuation Contribution (ASC). The ASC is separatefrom the standard employee pension contributions mentioned above. Noadditionalsuperannuation benefits are earned as a result of the ASC. TheASC applies to pensionable earnings above certain thresholds at differentbands and % rates depending on the pension scheme applicable to themember.From1 January2020,theASCbands/ratesareasfollows:

(b) Applicants who have had corrective laser surgery not involving the raising of a
corneal flap, within 12 months of the advertised closing date for receipt ofapplications
