Defining SatireO Satire: A tool writers use to critique or point
out a flaw in society, an organization, or an individual.
O Satire adds a comedic or absurd element while pretending to take itself seriously.
O It is not simply making fun of something; rather, it helps us think about familiar things in a new way, while making fun of something is usually destructive rather than helpful.
Satirical Devices • Exaggeration : Representing something
beyond normal bounds so that it becomes ridiculous and its faults can be seen.
• Absurdity (Incongruity) : To present things that are incongruous or are ridiculous to the surroundings.
• Reversal : The opposite of the normal order
• Parody : Imitate the techniques and/or style of another person, place, or thing.
