Defining Self ControlSelf-control is defined as “the ability to exercise restraint or control over one’s feeling, emotions, reaction, etc.”, “The ability to keep one’s emotions under control and restrain negative actions when provoked, when faced with opposition or hostility from others, or when working under conditions of stress. It also includes the ability to maintain stamina under continuing stress.” One can also bring in scriptures according to the Bible, in attempt to understand Self-control.

Looking at the following scripture readings:Proverbs 25:28 “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.2 Timothy 1:7 “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 1 Corinthians 7:9 “But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion

In understanding what self-control is, one needs to understand factors that are closely related to the subject of self-control. Understanding how moods and emotions have an impact on our ability to have self-control.• Understanding Emotions• Self-control: using manipulation as a form of control

– Personality and medication, i.e. drugs• When self-control fails: Conflict resolution and Emotional Intelligence

– All of the above, allow you to develop self-control…it just depends on how they influence your life.

– Having self-control will help you live the Christian value

– Self-control does not come easily, we all make mistakes.

– In order to have self-control, you need to fight the subconscious, and use your heart.

– Subconsciously, one can do wrong things, without being aware

– Using your heart, you will develop a conscience. And when you have a conscience you will develop the fruit of the spirit; found in the book of Galatians 5: 22

– Having these will help you to have self-control.
