THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY (LLS)

When The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was founded in 1949, leukemia patients were given a relative five-

year survival rate. In the past 49 years, the survival rate has nearly quadrupled and Hodgkin lymphoma is now

considered one of the most curable forms of cancer, thanks to radiation and chemotherapy. LLS has been

developing new initiatives that have strengthened our role as the leading private funder of blood cancer

research and provider of programs for the one million Americans living with a blood cancer and their families.

LLS relies heavily on the generosity of contributions and sponsorships from corporations, community partners,

privately-owned businesses, private foundations, donors, as well as individuals and families. With the funds

raised, the Delaware Chapter of LLS can continue to support local groundbreaking research, clinical trials and

provide cancer patients and their families with critical services.

MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN: Man & Woman of the Year is a national campaign in which dynamic,

passionate people engage in a spirited competition to raise funds for LLS. The man and woman who raise the

most funds are named the Man & Woman of the Year.

The amounts raised are top secret and are not disclosed until the local Man & Woman of the Year are

announced at a Grand Finale Celebration. The competition is 10 weeks long, beginning at the Kickoff on March

31, 2016 and ending at the Grand Finale Celebration on June 11, 2016 at The DoubleTree Hotel—Downtown

Wilmington.

In 2015, candidates nationwide collectively raised more than $32 million for blood cancer research and patient

services. The first Delaware event was held in 2010 and raised $87,000 in its inaugural year. In 2015, the

campaign’s sixth year in the Delaware market, the candidates raised $303,000! In 2016, the Delaware chapter

hopes to see $400,000 raised for life-saving research and to improve the quality of life for blood cancer patients

and their families.

SPONSORSHIP BENEFITS: Man & Woman of the Year offers the opportunity for businesses to support

a great cause and enhance its image of public consciousness and concern in the community. Forging a

partnership with LLS provides tremendous potential for publicity for the winning candidates and their sponsors

by means of press releases, exposure in print advertisements, and local recognition. Additionally, sponsors gain

the opportunity to build strong rapport with their customers and prospective patrons.

Sponsors, candidates, campaign teams, friends, families, survivors, and other LLS supporters will gather for the

announcement of the Man & Woman of the Year at the Grand Finale Celebration. Attendance is expected to

with local LLS supporters.
