Did you know?122 pedestrians were killed on Delaware roadways between

2010-2014.

There were a total of 1,824 pedestrian involved crashes during this time period.

3 of every 4 of these crashes occurred in New Castle County.

38% involved alcohol.

Most involved an error on the part of the pedestrian.

Why are people getting hit? Darting into the road.

Getting in or out of a parked vehicle.

Failing to obey a traffic sign or signal.

Failing to yield right of way.

Improperly in the roadway.

Inattentive.

Not visible.

Walking wrong way.

Safe Walking Tips: Cross only at crosswalks and

intersections.

Do not step into a crosswalk in the path of a vehicle, even though you have the right of way.

Use sidewalks. If there isn’t a sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far off the edge of the road as possible.

Carry a flashlight or other reflective item at night. It’s the law.

Do not walk under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Do not hitchhike.
