1. IntroductionThis document presents the activities undertaken during the first year of the AppHub projectin order to:
(a) recruit projects and assets,
(b) to evangelize cloud service providers and users,
(c) to extend the platform with complementary resources, and
(d) to develop connections and complementarities with other open source communityplatforms and the results obtained so far
The following sections are simply following this plan to develop an ecosystem where allstakeholders can benefit from AppHub services.
2. Recruiting Projects and Assets This activity is related to Task 5.1 “Populate the platform with state-of-the-art open sourceprojects and assets”.
As of December 11, 2015, we have recorded in the AppHub Directory:
• 70 European Projects, 39 of them having assets
• 126 Open Source Assets
• More details: https://directory.apphub.eu.com/
Recruiting open source projects and their assets (source code and documentation) is criticalfor the success of the AppHub market place.
It is an important dissemination and exploitation vector for European software vendors. Also,it allows cloud services providers to grow their service portfolio, and to help modernize end-users IT systems.
As a consequence, the AppHub ecosystem development strategy is relying on the creationof a partner network including two main families:
• Upstream stakeholders such as open source projects (both collaborative andcommercial)
• Downstream stakeholders such as users, systems integrators and cloud serviceproviders, complementors such as related collaborative projects and potentialpartners such as other open source community platforms.
To create our mailing lists, we have used the OCEAN project Open Cloud Directory FP7 listand OW2 members as initial contacts. We also identified priorities as follows: FP7 projects, then H2020 projects then commercial EU open source developments, then non-EU opensource developments. As a result, we have established and used the following mailing liststo contact the upstream stakeholders:
• [email protected], to join 70 contacts involved in European projects
• [email protected] to contact European-wide cloud infrastructurecontacts registered by our partner project CloudWatch
• [email protected] to contact the ten members of the CommunityAdvisory Board
AppHub 1Grant agreement no: 645096
We have informed the EU-supported open source projects through a mailing list and alsoinvited several of them to test the AppHub beta platform through customized email.
Our collaboration with CloudWATCH consortium started with the AppHub Position Paper1
proposed at Cloudscape VII (9 March 2015), then the third CloudWATCH Concertationmeeting at the Net Futures 2015 conference (25 March 2015) and was extended on severaloccasions, such as the next AppHub SQuAT Fest preparation.
The HolaCloud project was also collaborative and relayed our January 2016 workshopinvitation and agenda on its website: http://www.holacloud.eu/apphub-squat-fest-january-2016-brussels/
3. Evangelizing Cloud Service Providers and UsersThis activity is related to Task 5.2 “Partner Program development” and Task 5.3 “CloudChannel Development”.
As of December 11, 2015, we have identified potential AppHub Partners as follow:
• 15 European Cloud Service Providers from Germany, France, Norway, Poland, UK
• 63 European founded open source projects
• 21 Apphub survey respondents
• 12 selected AppHub Beta-testers
The exhibit hereafter shows the Cloud Service Providers Initial target list. The list is stillunder construction process and will be completed progressively.CSP Country URL

To create our mailing lists, we have used OW2 partners, complemented with European CSP(see D5.1). We have also decided to create a list to collect beta-users feedback and tosupport AppHub services end-users. As a result, we have established then used thefollowing mailing lists to contact the downstream stakeholders – i.e. users, systems

integrators and cloud service providers, complementors such as related collaborativeprojects and potential partners such as other open source community platforms. Please, read Section 2 for details about upstream stakeholders:
• [email protected] to inform 154 potential users about the latest project activities
• [email protected] to provide support to users exploring AppHub services
• [email protected] to contact a list of European Cloud Services Providers
To support our efforts to recruit partners, either Cloud Service Providers or complementors,we are using several marketing collateral detailing the main benefits to join, such as:
• Dedicated AppHub Partner web pages with two sections for each kind of partners
• Cloud Source Partner logo for CSPs
• Cloud Source Outreach Partner logo for OSS forges, associations and foundations
• AppHub Partner brochure
• AppHub Partner leaflet
• AppHub Partner slide presentation

4. Extending the Platform with Complementary Resources A combination of webinars, screencasts and surveys will support the ecosystemstakeholders. They will learn how to increase their portfolio of open source software, bybecoming an AppHub Partner and how to benefit from the AppHub market place andservices.
A first Screencast provides a tutorial about the AppHub platform. It explains how to browsethe AppHub Directory, how to create and publish a template image through the AppHubFactory, and finally, how the AppHub Store exposes European project assets, along withdescriptions, user reviews, and keywords. To view the screencast:

The AppHub Cloud Source Partners will be able to provide to their customers an easyaccess to a large number of open source solutions available as ready-to-run VMs, thanks tothe AppHub Factory and the AppHub Store. Moreover, they will be able to monetize thispartnership by offering additional and complementary services to their professional users.
The AppHub Cloud Source Partner program marketing advantages are summarized here:
• Support for technical format
• Participation in webinars
• One-button connection

5.2 Approaching AppHub Outreach Partners
European open source events offer an opportunity to approach local AppHub Partnersalready active on their respective market.
IT has been decided to approach such complementors during a second phase, once wehave developed a critical mass of Cloud Service Providers.
Nevertheless, the AppHub team attended Paris Open Source Summit, November 18-19,2015 (POSS 2015) where OW2 community provided a booth to four partners includingIkoula French CSP and Open IO, a local open source object storage software editor.
The AppHub team was also involved in two sessions during POSS 2015, the CommunitySummit and Collaborative Innovation sessions, organized by OW2.
Seven leaders and practitioners from OSS communities shared their best open sourcedevelopment practices during the Community Summit, including Thierry Carrez (OpenStack),Roberto Di Cosmo (IRILL), Jim Jagielski (Capital One), Gaël Blondelle (Eclipse), SophieGautier (Document Foundation), Stephen Walli (HP) and Simon Phipps (OSI).

Also eight EU-funded open source projects illustrated how multinational partners leverageopen source in European programs to help shape the future of the IT industry, includingAppHub, Artist, Harness, PaaSage, Amaltea4Public, ASCETiC, INTO-CPS, MODACloudsprojects, and the Big Data Value Association.

5.3 Contributing to the European Project Clusters
The AppHub Project team is also proud to be part of the four Project Clusters of Europeanprojects, namely:
• Software Engineering for Services and Applications
• Inter-cloud Challenges, Expectations and Issues
• New Approaches for Infrastructure Services
• Data Protection, Security and Privacy in the Cloud
The goal of these clusters is to create a critical mass of projects addressing the topic relatedto cloud computing approaches so to share experiences, collaborate on approaches anddiscuss challenges for adoption and future research.

6. ConclusionThis document offers an overview of the activities undertaken to develop the ecosystem ofthe AppHub market place.
To create a partner network, with upstream and downstream stakeholders, we have torecruit cloud service providers as well as open source organizations.
We have started to provide online and printed documents to detail the benefits of joining theAppHub Partner program. Then, we have driven first interactions with them during ParisOpen Source Summit 2015.
We will use these contacts as well as first partner and beta-tester feedbacks to fine tune newAppHub services targeting both upstream and downstream stakeholders.
