With high-ticket items for sale (a single pair of limited-

release Jordans can fetch close to $300) and a large

percentage of stores in urban locations, DTLR sees an

unusually large volume of cash-based transactions.

Accordingly, preventing theft and minimizing risk—

particularly at the company’s streetfront locations—was

always top of mind for company leadership. Each day,

store managers shouldered the responsibility of physically

transporting cash to the bank for deposit or to make

change. With eyes set on rapid growth, DTLR management

worked quickly to map out a custom solution built

around its innovative Smart Safes.

our street stores in Dunbar’s service area.”

Securing Cash, Safeguarding Employees

The advanced technological features of Dunbar’s Smart Safes

provided each DTLR store manager with a clear view into the

cash handling operations at their location. Suddenly, every dollar

that passed from customer to cashier was scanned by the safe,

timestamped with employee information upon deposit, and

reported to DTLR’s digital dashboard.

Furthermore, the Dunbar Smart Safe solution eliminated the need

for store managers to make risky trips to the bank. Several times

a week, Dunbar armored trucks pick up cash from store safes and

securely transport it to one of Dunbar’s nationwide Cash Vaults for

verification before moving it to DTLR’s bank.

With the deposit process now mechanized by Dunbar’s Smart

Safe Solution, there was only one issue left to settle—DTLR’s ability

to get change orders from the bank. Dunbar was able to resolve this

last concern with its EZChange service. This Dunbar offering allows

DTLR to order their change directly from Dunbar and have it

delivered at the same time as their deposit pick ups.
