TIAFOE SEEKS FIRST TITLE, FACES GOJOWCZYK IN FINAL

Peter Gojowczyk of Germany and American wild card Francis Tiafoe will play for the Delray Beach

Open title Sunday. Tiafoe's season thus far has been off to a positive start, as he entered the New York

Open with 9 career Tour-level wins, and has since notched 6 wins in the last two weeks alone. Should

20-year-old Tiafoe win the title, he will be the youngest American to win a title since 19-year-old Andy

Roddick won at 2002 Houston, and he will be the first #NextGenATP American to win a title.

Tiafoe will be the fourth consecutive American opponent standing in Gojowczyk's path to his second

career title, after the German defeated John Isner, Reilly Opelka and Steve Johnson en route to the

final. The last American to defeat Gojowczyk at any level was Tiafoe, who claimed a win at the 2016

Winnetka Challenger event. Since then, Gojowczyk has held an 8-match Tour-level win streak against

American opponents (14 at all levels).

The American duo of Jack Sock and Jackson Withrow have stormed through the Delray Beach

doubles draw this week to earn a spot in their first final together. Sock and Withrow defeated top seeds

Bob and Mike Bryan in the quarter-finals, then took out No. 3 seeds Ben McLachlan and Hugo Nys in

the semi-finals. On Sunday, they will play No. 4 seeds Nicholas Monroe and John-Patrick Smith,

who are also playing in their first final together. Five years ago, Sock won his first doubles title here in

Delray Beach, and he is now seeking his 9th career doubles title.

CHUNG-TIAFOE QF CONTINUES, SEMI-FINAL SATURDAY BEGINS

Wild card and World No. 91 Francis Tiafoe was just a few points away from securing a quarter-final

victory over No. 8 seed Hyeon Chung Friday night when play was suspended due to rain. Tiafoe led

Chung 5-7, 6-4, 5-3 with Chung serving Ad.-40. The conclusion of the match resumes today before the

start of semi-final singles matches. The winner between Tiafoe and Chung will play 18-year-old Denis

Shapovalov in the final match of the day. Should Tiafoe win, it will be the first time these two

#NextGenATP stars meet. Chung holds a 1-0 advantage over Shapovalov, with their only meeting

coming in round robin play at the 2017 Next Gen ATP Finals.

This is the second ATP Tour-level semi-final of Shapovalov's career. In 2017, he defeated Juan Martin

del Potro and Rafael Nadal en route to the semis of the Montreal Masters 1000 (l. to Alexander Zverev),

making him the youngest ATP Masters 1000 semi-finalist in the series' 28-year history.

Peter Gojowczyk of Germany will face his third consecutive American opponent on Saturday when he

meets Steve Johnson in their first career meeting. Gojowczyk withstood the big service games of 6-

foot-10 John Isner in the second round, then followed with a straight-sets win over 6-foot-11 Reilly

FIVE #NEXTGENATP STARS STORM QUARTER-FINALS

Five #NextGenATP stars, three of whom are young Americans, have earned a spot in the Delray Beach

quarter-finals. Headlining play on Friday is No. 8 seed Hyeon Chung, who takes on wild card and

World No. 91 Francis Tiafoe of the United States. Tiafoe stunned No. 2 seed and 2011 champion

Juan Martin del Potro in the second round Thursday night to set up a first-time meeting with fellow

#NextGenATP star Chung.

In the first quarter-final match of the day, Evgeny Donskoy of Russia will get a chance to avenge his

2016 US Open loss to Steve Johnson. In the first round at Flushing Meadows that year, Donskoy led

6-4, 6-1, 5-2 with the American serving at 0-40. The Russian held six match points, but Johnson surged

back to win the match in five sets. Earlier that same month, Donskoy managed only two games against

Johnson at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games. Johnson, who reached the semi-finals here in

2014, enters the quarter-final round after allowing just six games in his defeat of No. 9 seed Milos

Raonic. Johnson and Donskoy are the only players in the Delray Beach quarter-finals who have not yet

dropped a set this week.

After surviving a triple-tiebreak match against John Isner in the second round, Peter Gojowczyk's

opponents just keep getting taller. The German defeated 6-foot-10 Isner and now finds himself across

the court from another big server in 6-foot-11 Reilly Opelka in the quarter-finals. Gojowczyk owns a 1-0

advantage over Opelka at the ATP Tour level, a three-set victory at 2017 Indian Wells. Opelka's fellow

#NextGenATP stars Denis Shapovalov and Taylor Fritz square off against each other in the following

match on Stadium Court. This will be the first career meeting between the two as they battle for a spot

Wednesday's second round at the Delray Beach Open. Sock faces countryman Reilly Opelka for the

first time in their career. The 6-foot-11 Opelka is playing in his first ATP Tour level event this season

and advanced to this stage after defeating fellow American Ryan Harrison in two tiebreak sets.

No. 6 seed John Isner leads off play on Stadium Court against Germany's Peter Gojowczyk, who has

reached two quarter-finals so far in 2018 (Doha and Auckland). Isner has had success in Delray Beach

in previous years, having reached the semi-finals three times from 2012 to 2014, and now carries a 10-

5 record here. This is the first career meeting between the two players.

Following Isner on Stadium Court is No. 9 seed Milos Raonic against American Steve Johnson.

Raonic reached the 2017 final in Delray Beach but had to bow out after suffering a right leg injury

during his semi-final match. He looks to repeat his run this year, but first he will have to get past

Court Tuesday is American No. 6 seed John Isner against Radu Albot of Moldova. The two met for

the first time just last week at the New York Open, where Albot defeated Isner in three sets before

reaching the quarter-finals. Isner is a three-time semi-finalist in Delray Beach.

Following Isner and Albot is a contest between Japan's Taro Daniel and No. 9 seed Milos Raonic.

Raonic made it to the final here last year against Jack Sock, but he was forced to withdraw due to injury

and did not play the final. He has yet to win a match in 2018 and will open his campaign Tuesday on

Canada Day, along with countryman Denis Shapovalov. The 18-year-old Canadian and his opponent,

2015 champion Ivo Karlovic, are separated by 20 years of age and are meeting for the first time in

their career. This will be the second time that Karlovic faces an 18-year-old left-hander in the last three

10 THINGS TO WATCH IN DELRAY BEACH 1) What a Week: Twenty-two of the Top 32 players on the ATP World Tour will compete this week in

Delray Beach, Rio de Janeiro or Marseille. Leading the way at the Delray Beach Open are former

champions Jack Sock, Juan Martin del Potro, Kevin Anderson, Sam Querrey and Ivo Karlovic.

2) Title Town: Sock’s run to the 2017 Delray Beach Open title was 12 years in the making. Playing at

the same venue as a junior, Sock swept singles and doubles titles at the 2005 USTA Boys’ 12s

National Spring Championships and the 2009 USTA Boys’ 18s National Clay Court Championships.

Then, he won his first ATP title in doubles alongside James Blake at the 2013 Delray Beach Open.

3) Youth vs Experience: Denis Shapovalov, the youngest player in the draw at 18 years, 10

months, has a first-round meeting with the oldest player in the draw, Karlovic, who is 20 years his

senior and turns 39 years old on Feb. 28. Karlovic's meeting with Shapovalov will be the second

18-year-old left-hander he has faced in the last three weeks (l. to Corentin Moutet in Quito 2R).

4) Snowbirds United: No. 9 seed Milos Raonic and 18-year-old countryman Shapovalov open their

campaigns Tuesday on Canada Day in Delray Beach. Shapovalov burst onto the scene at Montreal

last August by becoming the youngest ATP Masters 1000 semi-finalist in the series' 28-year history.

5) Delpo in Delray: Returning to Delray Beach is Del Potro, who won his first eight matches and 16

sets at the event before semi-final losses in 2016 and 2017. The Argentine was ranked 1,042nd at

the 2016 Delray Beach Open following his fourth wrist surgery. He rose 1,000 spots to No. 42

ahead of the 2017 Delray Beach Open. Del Potro broke back into the Top 10 on 15 January 2018.

6) Homecoming Kev: Anderson returns to Delray Beach for a ninth straight year. The Palm Beach

County resident won the 2012 title and reached the 2014 final, but he’s lost his last three matches

in Delray. Anderson defeated Querrey en route to his first Grand Slam final at the 2017 US Open.

7) Red, White and Blue: All Top 5 and nine of the Top 10 Americans are in the Delray Beach draw,

including #NextGenATP players Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Also in the field are three-time

semi-finalist John Isner and 2015 finalist Donald Young, who have combined for one win in 2018.

8) No Qualifying Needed: Also making his main draw debut in Delray Beach is 21-year-old Hyeon

Chung, who lost in qualifying one year ago. After ending 2017 as the Next Gen ATP Finals

champion, Chung defeated Djokovic en route to the Australian Open semi-finals last month.

9) Delray Towers: The Delray singles draw features some of the tallest players in the ATP, including

Anderson (6'8"), Isner (6'10"), Reilly Opelka (6'11") and Karlovic (6'11").

10) Bros are Back: Four-time doubles champions and six-time finalists Bob and Mike Bryan will make

their 11th appearance at the Delray Beach Open. Despite winning two of their record 114 titles in

2017, the American twins finished a season outside of the Top 10 for the first time since 2001.
