Dementia Awareness Week in Tameside 18-22 May Let’s ALL be aware Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, Age UK Tameside, Alzheimer’s Society Stockport and District and New Charter are working together to ensure our community is dementia aware. During Dementia Awareness Week, a range of events are being held across Tameside to reach all sections of our community, including all ages and cultures. Come along to an event near you to find out more about dementia, see how you can become a Dementia Friend and hear about local support provided to those affected. Or contact the New Charter Housing Trust Group sheltered scheme in your area to see what’s happening in your neighbourhood. Let’s ALL be aware It is estimated that dementia will affect more than 1 million people by 2025. Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with dementia.

‘An Afternoon atElsie’s House’This short drama will beperformed for local schools,encouraging children to talk totheir families about dementia.

Performances are open to thepublic from 1:30 – 3:30 alongwith the opportunity to makea Memory Box at Age UKTameside’s IndependentLiving Centre, 131 KatherineStreet, Ashton.

BME and BangladeshiCommunity DementiaAware Drop-inInformation andAdvice Sessions 1:00 – 4:00 at TheBangladeshi CommunityCentre, Chapel Street, Hyde.

Drop-in sessions, informationand advice and carers supportwill be provided to our localBME communities, withtranslators on hand to answerquestions.

Age UK TamesideReminiscence DiscoWith music from throughoutthe decades, you’ll enjoydancing, sing-alongs andafternoon tea at Age UKTameside’s IndependentLiving Centre, 131 KatherineStreet, Ashton. Attendees areencouraged to come dressedin the style of their favouritedecade.

The event is FREE to attend,from 1:30 – 4:30. Informationand advice will also beavailable from a range ofservices throughout Tamesideas well as a raffle and otherprizes and activities.
