Course Outline Recognise the signs and symptoms of dementia Recognise the features of a dementia friendly environment Communicate effectively with persons with dementia Apply strategies to support distressed persons with dementia Include persons with dementia in your centre activities Mobilise appropriate resources and professional help for persons with dementia Who should attend This course is intended for individuals who have frequent contact with older persons in centre-based facilities which run services or programmes for older persons, such as Senior Activity Centres, Family Service Centres, grassroots organisations, community centres and various religious organisations. Our trainers Hwan Jing has a BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy from the University of Exeter, UK (2000), and a Masters in Mental Health Studies from King’s College London, UK (2007). She has a wide range of experiences working with people with dementia, including hospital-based services and home-based intervention. Hwan Jing has served as a member of the Ministry of Health (MOH) Dementia Care Taskforce and Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) Dementia Nursing Home Design Resource Panel. Fong Yoke Leng is a trained nurse and an experienced manager of day care centres. She has a passion for dementia care and holds a Masters in Clinical Rehabilitation from Flinders University, Australia. She also has many years of work experience in managing social, rehabilitation and dementia day centres.

Key Objectives
