year. Our goal is that in the future they be come members of IAML (Crostioa) and we will be able to include them in our future
projects.
We are trying to support the sheet mu
sic market by fostering better connections
between music publishers and dealers and
encouraging them to open shops special
ized for sheet music. But it's not easy. In
last 60 years we have two big political
changes—from a capitalist society to com
munist and then back agin. During the
change from capitalism to communism, all
the private publishers/dealers were
banned from private business, and in this
last change we suffered from the reverse:
bad privatization in which our greatest mu sic publisher and dealer from the period 1945-1991 was been destroyed. So, it is not
easy for new publisher/dealer to start from
the beginning, and musical scores (in con
trast with musical instruments) does not
seem to them as good business to start
with.

The Czech National Branch has now
twenty-three full members, out of this
eleven are international. We have contacts
with other Czech and Moravian music li
braries, which participate fairly regularly in
our common events.
The General Meeting of the Czech
National Branch took place in October 2005 in the newly-reconstructed Czech Museum
of Music building. In addition to the regular agenda, which included the election of the new committee, the participants could ex
plore the Czech Museum of Music and to
see the newly-reopened collection of musi
cal instruments, which had been closed for
many years. To accelerate and improve the exchange
of information and knowledge about each
other we initiated the creation of our own
website. It is being designed by Mr. Tomas
Kucera from the Music Department of the
Jin Mahen Library in Brno, who will also be the webmaster. There are negotiations
underway about placing this website on the
National Library server.
The Music Department of the Jiff Mahen Library, which is very active within our group, organized at the end of May the
sixth seminar from the cycle of lectures
from musical history. These lectures are fo
cused on the education of librarians in mu
sic libraries, this year's seminar was about
Mozart, his relationship with Moravia, and about Salieri. These very popular lectures
are held by a teacher from the Masaryk
University, the composer and musicologist
Milos Stédron. There is continuing very good coopera
tion between our Czech branch and the
Slovak National Branch. Apart from other
activities, we have been attending each
other's meeting for the past three year
where we can discuss our problems and ex
change our experiences on solutions to
those problems.
An amendment of The Czech Copyright
Law has come into power about a month
ago. It bans „making copies from published sheet music including music dramas". This
year's general meeting and seminar of the
Czech National Branch will be dealing with
this important issue. It will take place in au
tumn in the Hradec Krâlové Municipal
Library.

Our General Assembly was held on
17 March 2006 at Lyngby Public Library. As of 31 December 2005, the Dansk Musik biblioteks Forening (DMBF) had 158 mem bers. That is almost the same amount of
members as last year. They are distributed
as follows: LA 43, IB: 56, PA: 36, PB: 23, in cluding three students and seven foreign
institutions. We are still experiencing a pos itive interest in joining the DMBF.

International Cooperation/IAML
In 2005 the DMBF has had a vice-chair (Kirsten Husted) in the Public Libraries Branch. Together with the Norwegian
branch DMBF are working on proposals re
garding the annual conferences and other
matters concerning the international coop
eration in IAML. The proposals will hope fully be presented by late fall 2006.

TTie Board and Members
The board has 11 members from various
music libraries and institutions. The presi dent of the branch is Ulla Ikäheimo (National Library of Finland), the vice
president is Irmeli Koskimies (Sibelius Academy) and secretary-treasurer is
Heikki Poroila (Vantaa City Library). Membership of the branch stands at 16 in dividual and 51 institutional members.
Publications
The publication activities are undergoing
change in that there were no printed publi cations this year. Two directories were
opened on line: Hankalat musiikkinimet (List of authorized music name headings) and Aidatrumpetista zimbalomiin (List of musical instruments) can be searched at
http://www.kirjastot.fi/fi-FI/musiikki/. The national library portal Kiijastot.fi and its music channel are the most important
way of informing music libraries. The printed magazine Intervalli is still issued
quarterly, but there are plans for electronic
publication in .pdf form. The Finnish magazine of classical music
Rondo published a special music library is sue that was distributed in libraries.
Kirjastolehti (The Finnish Library Journal) and Trad (folk music magazine) also had articles on music libraries.
Other Activities
The official branch meetings were held in Lahti City Library and Vantaa City Library.
Fourteen of the largest public music li braries met in February for discussions of
music library services in the future. The
"manifest" for further discussion contains,
among other things, regional music library
services, the staff competence, the musical
gamut and depth, and promoting national
culture.
The branch started planning a copyright
seminar in Helsinki and a study trip to Denmark in the autumn 2006. The most
important future happening is the Baltic
Nordic music library meeting which will be held in Helsinki August 2007. The home
page of the event is http://www.lib.helsinki .fi/english/libraries/viola/MPL2007/

FRANCE
The number of members in the French
branch has been decreasing. Since 2004 there has been a loss of twelve member
ships (eight institutional and four individual
memberships). In 2005, the French Group did not receive any subsidies from the
Direction of the Music, Dance, Theatre and
Spectacle (DMDTS). A new application which is supposed to be successful has
been made this year.
Three important measures were taken
this year on the website of the French
group. The website can be found under the
address: www.aibm-France.org • The first measure on the website enlists
an index of the libraries and French in
stitutions that contain music collections.
A publication was made available online in 2001. The index will be updated and made accessible for everyone from
September onwards. With the help of
this database, it will be possible to search according to regions, cities, li
braries, etc. The use of the database is
very simple and efficient.
