this region, and with the Board of the Czech National Branch. We are looking forward to vis

iting the largest organ factory in the Czech

Republic and to follow up this visit with an or

gan concert.

And what about our plans for the future? We

want to initiate new negotiations on printed mu

sic with the participation of rights holders and the Czech Ministry of Culture. We would like to

prepare at least one discussion on some hot

topics in the Public Library Group. Among our current work-load we also count digitization

and description of sheet music tied with a more close cooperation among Czech libraries with a

large collection of music. Our other objective is to extend access to electronic music databases

for more Czech libraries. We are confident that

we will be able to complete most of our tasks

successfully.

Jana Navratilova President, IAML (Czech Republic)

Denmark

A few facts: As of 31 December 2008, the Dansk Musikbiblioteks Forening (DMBF) had ap proximatelyl60 members. Over the last years

the number of members has decreased - but

has now stabilized, to go forward again - at least

we hope!

Our 3 major areas of work this year have been:

• The battle against the 4-month waiting period for library circulation of compact

discs is still an important aspect on our

agenda. Recently, after a positive meeting

with the International Federation of the

Phonographic Industry (IFPI), we agreed on a common strategy on the matter.

Therefore, it is our opinion that we can start being slightly optimistic concerning the end of the waiting period. Hopefully this year will see an end to this battle.

• We have intensified our efforts to improve the basic education in the library school and to develop continuing education

programs for music librarians. We have set up an education committee and we

have started a dialog with the Royal

School of Library and Information

Science. This is an important focus area for us. This fall we will hold a three-day conference: with the overall theme: A Mix

of Two Worlds. The Public Library of Vejle County will host the conference.

• Website During summer/fall of 2009 the Dansk Musikbiblioteks Forening website, www.DMBF.nu, will undergo a larger re

organization and modernization; this will include the "music list" - an email-list, which continues to be the most significant focal point of the professional music li

brary debate in Denmark. In the first months of 2009, we have been conducting

tests of the new blog software which will

replace the technology behind the music list. Our website will change from a tradi tional web system, to an open source CMS

system called Joomla.

We have continued the collaboration with the Norwegian branch of IAML. In November 2008, the Norwegian Music Library Associ ation and the DMBF held a common board

meeting in Oslo. It was a very positive meeting and the topics were, among others, mutual ex

change of information, a discussion of a possi ble Nordic conference in the future, and collab

oration on education / continuing education, for example, in the form of a joint wiki of edu cational resources.

Estonia

In October 2008, Aurika Gergeleziu had the

pleasure of bring greetings both on behalf of

IAML as well as the Estonian Branch to our

Finnish colleagues who celebrated the 50th

Anniversary of public music libraries in Finland.

The Estonian Branch had its Annual

Meeting in April 2009 in the Tallinn Central

Library. Among other topics taken up, new offi cers were elected as follows:

• President - Kaie Viigipuu (Tallinn Central

Library) • Vice President - Aurika Gergeleziu

(National Library of Estonia)
