JANUARY 1. Jan 4-6th, 2018: Fifth International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education (ICTIEE 2018)

Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (Professor & HOD-IEM Department) had attended the Fifth International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education (ICTIEE 2018) organized by Bennett University, Greater Noida on 4-6th January 2018.

2. Jan 9th: VTU Convocation for Ph.D

Dr. K.N.P. Prasad (Associate Professor) of IEM Department has attended the 17th Annual VTU Convocation at Jnana Sangama Campus, VTU, Belagavi on January 9th, 2018.

He has been conferred with the Ph.D degree by the Governor of Karnataka and University Chancellor, His Excellency Shri Vajubhai Vala for his thesis titled “Investigation of Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Stir Squeeze Cast Al-Si Flyash Composites” and guided by Dr. M. Ramachandra, Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, BMSCE. Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (Professor & HOD), and all Staff and Faculty of IEM Department warmly congratulate Dr. K.N.P. Prasad for his achievement. 3. Jan 22-23rd 2018: 2nd Annual International Staff Tournament at PES University

At the 2nd Annual International Staff Tournament organized by PES University, Bangalore on 22-23rd January 2018, Dr. K. J Rathanraj, Professor & H.O.D. of IEM Department has been placed 3rd in the Badminton Tournament (Above 40 Years Category). His Teammates were Shri Basvaraju, Shri B.K. Srinivas and Shri V. Subramaniam, all from the Mechanical Engineering Department.

4. Jan 24th 2018: Indian Metal Forming Exhibition-IMTEX 2018

Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (Professor & HOD-IEM Department) had attended the Indian Metal Forming Exhibition-IMTEX 2018, held at Bangalore on 24th January, 2018. He visited all the different Exhibition stalls pertaining to Metal Cutting and Metal Processes, etc. as well as the BMSCE Stall.

5. Jan 26th 2018: First Prize in IIIE-Ideathon 2018, Bangalore

The Following Students of 6th Semester IEM Department were placed 1st in the “Ideathon 2018 – Role of Industrial Engineers in Building a

Smart City” Contest Organized by the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineers (IIIE), Bangalore Chapter, and held at BMSCE on 26th January, 2018. The title of the Topic was “Urban Mobility”: 1. MEDINI SHASTRY 2. NAYEEM NIZAMI 3. SRIRAM B 6. Jan 30th 2018: Blood Donation at BMSCE

7. Jan 30th 2018: Martyrs Day Celebration

The “Martyrs Day Celebration” was organized by BMSCE on 30th January, 2018. Guest of Honour for the occasion was Col. Bhupesh Kumar, CO, 1st KAR Signal Regiment and Chief Guest was Shri Theethamada Arjun Devaiah, “Sprint King of India”. The following IEM Students from the NCC participated in the event: 1. FEBRUARY 1. Feb 7th, 2018: Industrial Visit to M/s. Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd, Bangalore

Students of 8th Sem IEM department attended an Industrial Visit to M/s. Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd on 7th February. Accompanying them were Prof. Kavitha Rani N and Prof. Mayur Appaiah (both Assistant Professors) of IEM Department. About 29 students took part in the visit.

2. Feb 7th, 2018: Industrial Visit to M/s. Hewlett Packard Enterprise India Private

Ltd, Bangalore

Students of 6th Sem IEM department attended an Industrial Visit to M/s. Hewlett Packard Enterprise India Private Ltd on 7th February. Accompanying them were Dr. B.R. Ramji and Prof. Disha M. Nayak (both Assistant Professors) of IEM Department. About 43 students took part in the visit.

3. Feb 15th, 2018: Industrial Visit to M/s. Schneider Electric, Bangalore

Students of 6th Sem IEM department attended an Industrial Visit to M/s. Schneider Electric on 15th February. Accompanying them were Prof. V. N. Shailaja and Prof. Mayur Appaiah (both Assistant Professors) of IEM Department. About 38 students took part in the visit.

4. Feb 2018: Paper Published in International Journal

A paper titled “Design of a mild steel specimen using FEA and tensile test data” was published by Prof. B. Ramesh Nayak (Associate Professor – IEM Department), Prof. Mayur Appaiah (Asst. MARCH 1. March 4th: Interaction with Dean Academic, BMSCE

The IEM department Faculty interacted with Dr. Kanmani B., Professor and Dean (Academics), BMSCE on 4th March. The various changes related to mapping Course Outcomes, Program Outcomes, and other academic related issues were discussed.

2. March 6th: Interaction with Northern Illinois University (NIU), USA

IEM Department has had discussions with Prof. Awni AlKarzon, (Coordinator, Middle East Initiatives, Northern Illinois University-NIU, Illinois, USA) and Mr. Salmaan Faraaz (Manager, ELS International Education Pathways Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore) on providing

Vocational Training and other student initiatives by NIU. Prof. AlKarzon has also interacted with IEM Students regarding the same.

3. March 9th: Extension Lecture titled “Perishable Goods Supply Chain”

As part of the ongoing Extension Lecture Series at IEM Department, Lecture No. 63

was delivered by Mr. Shashikanth Subramanya, Alumni of IEM Department

and Founder of Direct Subzi, a startup

company. The Topic of the lecture was “Perishable Goods Supply Chain”.

4. March 15th – 17th: FDP organized by IEM Department and Chemical Engineering Department on “Process Simulation Using UniSim Design Software”: A 3 day Faculty Development Program (FDP) was organized by the IEM Department and Department of Chemical Engineering from 15th -17th March, 2017. The FDP was on “Process Simulation Using UniSim Design Software.” The FDP Program was organized under the leadership of the Chairman Convener, Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (Professor & HOD, IEM). The Main Co-ordinator of the FDP was Prof. K.T. Ramesh (Asst. Professor – IEM

A three day Finishing School was organized by the IEM Department along with the Department of Chemical Engineering, BMSCE on 5th-7th April. The Finishing School was on “Soft Skills – Assessment and Training” for pre-Final Year Students of both departments. The Program was organized under the leadership of the Chairman Convener, Dr. K.J. 3. April 10th: Industrial Visit to M/s. Balaji Industries, Bangalore

Students of 4th SEM IEM department attended an Industrial Visit to M/s. Balaji Industries on 10th April. Accompanying them were Prof. Kavitha Rani N and Prof. Disha M. Nayak (both Assistant Professors) of IEM

Department. About 60 students took part in the visit. 4. April 11th: One Day Student Workshop on “Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)”

A one day Student Workshop was organized by the IEM Department and Shingo Institute of Japanese Management on 11th April. The workshop was on “Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).” The Program was organized under the leadership of Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (Professor & HOD, IEM). 5. April 12th: One Day Student Team Building Program “Management Games”

A one day Student Team Building Program “Management Games” was organized by the IEM Department and Shri Dinakar Murthy Krishna and team from M/s. Samuthana Consultancoaching LLP on 12th April. As part of the ongoing Extension Lecture Series at IEM Department, Lecture No. 65 was delivered by Dr. S. T. Aruna, Principal Scientist, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore. The Topic of the lecture was “NanoMaterials”.

7. April 17th: IEM Department INDEC Sports Program

As part of the Industrial Engineering Club (INDEC) activities for IEM students, IEM Department has organized a football match for IEM Students of various semesters on April 17th.

8. April 21th: Departmental INDEC Get-Together “PROSLAVA”

The Industrial Engineering Club (INDEC) of IEM Department had arranged a get together for all Staff and Final Year Students of IEM Department. 9. April 30th: Self Study Evaluation As part of the curriculum, the IEM Department organized Self Study Evaluation (Comprehensive Course) for the following subject. 4th Semester i) Production Technology – 2 (Course in Charge: Prof. Mayur Appaiah-Asst. The Group Photo Session and Farewell Function for all Departments and outgoing students of BMSCE (including M.Tech and Architecture Students) was organized by the IEM Department under the leadership of the Chairman Convener, Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (Professor and HOD, IEM).

3. May 14th: 8th SEM Project Exhibition To encourage innovative and socially relevant projects of the 8th Sem Students, IEM Department had organized the “8th Sem Project Exhibition”. This was attended by the Principal, BMSCE; Dr. K. Mallikharjuna Babu, along with all IEM Department faculties. The students participated in the Exhibition, and explained their work to the judges for the event – Dr. Mohan Babu G.N. (Professor and Principal, BMSIT) and Dr. H. JULY 1. July 10th – 12th: Speaker for Workshop Dr. K.J. Rathanraj, Professor & Head, IEM Department, has participated as a Speaker in the One Week In-House Training Program Organized by M/s. Bharat Earth Movers Ltd. (BEML) from 9th-13th July. The Topics covered were “Process Improvement Using Control Charts.”

2. July 16th – 20th: FDP organized by IEM Department and Chemical Engineering Department on “Design For Sustainability”: A One Week Faculty Development Program (FDP) was organized by the IEM Department and Department of Chemical Engineering from 16th -20th July, 2018. The FDP was on “Design For Sustainability.” The FDP Program was organized under the leadership of the Chairman Convener, Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (Professor & HOD, IEM). Dr. K.J. Rathanraj, Professor and Head, IEM Department has attended a 2 Day Program on “Financial Management and PFMS” held at Dr. AIT College, Bangalore from 30th -31st July. The Program was organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD), Govt. of India along with the National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU).

SEPTEMBER 1. Sept 5th: PhD Thesis Defense Professor B. Ramesh Nayak, Associate Professor, IEM Department conducted the defense of his PhD topic titled “Experimental and Theoretical Studies on the Performance of Thermo acoustic Refrigerator” on Sept 5th, at the Mechanical Engineering Seminar Hall (MESH), BMSCE. The External Examiner for the Defense was Dr. T. S. Sheshadri, Associate Professor, IISc, Bangalore. The Defense was attended by the HOD, IEM Department, Dr. KJ Rathanraj, HOD, Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department, Dr. Bheemsha Arya, as well as the Faculty and Staff of IEM and ME Departments. The HOD, IEM Department, joins all Faculty and Staff in congratulating Prof. B. Ramesh Nayak for conducting the Defense of his PhD. Some Photos of the event are shown below.

3. Sept 26th: Industrial Visit to M/s. Kewaunee Scientific Corporation India Ltd, Bangalore

Students of 7th SEM IEM department attended an Industrial Visit to M/s. Kewaunee Scientific Corporation India Ltd on Sept 26th. Accompanying them were the Faculty Prof. Kavitha Rani N (Assistant Professor) and Shri Rupesh of IEM Department. About 43 students took part in the visit.

4. September 26th: Awarded the “Dr. JM Mahajan Award”

Dr. B. Ravishankar, Professor – IEM and Placement Officer, BMSCE, has been awarded the prestigious “Dr. J.M. Mahajan Award” instituted by IIIE – The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineering, Nagpur Chapter, for the Year 2018, in recognition

for his various contributions to the field of Industrial Engineering.

5. September 27th: Teacher’s Day Celebration by BMSCE

The IEM Department has secured the 3rd Best Project in the College Level, and the winning Student Team was felicitated during the Teacher’s Day Program.

The Title of the project was “ Design and Development of a Flexible Wearable Chair”.

The Students team comprised of the following - Akshay S. Rao, Akshay S. and Gaurav S. The Project Guide for this project was Dr. K. J. Rathanraj (Professor and HOD – IEM Department). A Cash Award of Rs. 25000/- for the Project

Team (Sponsored by M/s. TATA Consultancy

Services) and Rs. 8000 /- for the Guide

(sponsored by BMSCE) was also given.

OCTOBER 1. Oct 10th: Industrial Visit to M/s. National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore

Students of 5th SEM IEM department attended an Industrial Visit to M/s. National Aerospace Laboratories on Oct 10th. Accompanying them were Prof. Kavitha Rani N and Prof. Mayur Appaiah (both Assistant Professors) of IEM Department. The visit was attended by 52 students. 2. Oct 11th: Talk by Industry Experts on “Six Sigma”

As part of the ongoing Industry Interaction at IEM Department, a talk on “Six Sigma” was given by Mr. Natarajan and Mr. Madhavan, from M/s. Shingo Institute of Japanese Management, Bangalore. The Talk was given to students of 5th Semester, IEM Department.

Students of 5th SEM IEM department attended an Industrial Visit to M/s. VST Tillers and Tractors Ltd. on Oct 12th. Accompanying them was Prof. Mayur Appaiah (Assistant Professor) of IEM Department. The visit was attended by 30 students. 4. Oct 17th: Ayudha Pooja at IEM Department DR. KJ Rathanraj, HOD – IEM Dept., joined all the faculty, Staff and students in celebrating Ayudha Pooja at IEM Department on Oct 17th, 2018.

4. Oct 26th: Distribution of Phaseshift 2018 Certificates

A small ceremony was organized on 26th October by IEM Department to distribute Phaseshift 2018 certificates to student volunteers. The certificates were handed over by Dr. K.J. Rathanraj, Professor and HoD, Prof. Reddy Naik (Assistant Professor), and Prof. Disha Nayak (Phaseshift 2018 Coordinator and Assistant Professor) of IEM Department.

5. Oct 31th: PhD Colloquium of Mr. P.V. Sreenivasula Reddy, Research Scholar, IEM Department

A PhD. Colloquium was organized by IEM Department for Mr. P.V. Sreenivasula Reddy, Research Scholar, IEM Department. The Title of the Research was “Modelling and Analysis of Micro-Structure and Surface Integrity Studies in Wire Discharge Machining with Electrical Parameters.” This was attended by Dr. K.J. Rathanraj (PhD. Guide), Professor and HoD, IEM Department and other faculty of the Department.

NOVEMBER 1. Nov 17th: Installation of new Mitsubishi Robot

IEM Department has received new equipment in the Robotics & CNC Lab, in the form of 2 Mitsubishi Robots. Dr. K.J.Rathanraj. Professor and HoD, and the faculty heading the Lab, Dr. K.N.P.Prasad, Associate Professor, were present along with various IEM Staff during the arrival of the new robots. The installation procedures are on-going, and the robots will be commissioned shortly. The Specifications of the robots are:

2. Nov 19th: Extension Lecture on “Financial Management”

As part of the ongoing Lecture Series at IEM Department, an Extension Lecture was delivered by Ms. Soumya Anandh, of M/s. Finsafe India Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, on Nov 19th, 2018. The Topic of the lecture was “Financial Management”.

5. Nov 2018: Awarded PhD Degree

The PhD. topic was “Experimental and Theoretical Studies on the Performance of Thermo acoustic Refrigerator”. The HOD of IEM Department, Dr. K.J.
