Action taken to improve for attainment level of weak POs and PSOs

55

The fundamental concepts and difficult questions were discussed and solved in the tutorial classes.

Extra classes were scheduled to find out difficulty levels of the students and to adequately tackle their problems.

Additional problems were given in courses, which have low attainment, and the students should be asked to verifythe results using computer program or standard software.

Apart from conducting the experiments in the laboratory, the students were encouraged to analyze experimentalresults with theoretical results and results from other relevant sources

Certificate courses were planned and conducted for learning the civil engineering software

The faculty members were advised to share their personal experiences in the assigned role of Engineers, particularlyCivil Engineers in the uplifting and improving the issues of the society

Faculty members were advised to discuss the issues of public health and safety in most of Civil Engineering courses

Outcome based education (OBE) Philosophy of the Department

56

The Teaching Learning Process is guided by –OBE model

•OBE focuses on the predefined outcomes that by and large, signify knowledge, skills

and capabilities expected from a graduate on successful completion of a program

and also on the continuous improvement in attainment of outcomes vis-à-vis

predefined outcomes and their relevance to mission and vision of the institution and

educational objectives of the program (www.nbaind.org).

Bridging the Curriculum gap

The identified gaps were bridged by some of the following strategies.

1.Content beyond Syllabus are suggested to include in the regular classes that can be handledby internal faculty / External experts from Industry and Academia.

2.Introduction of Value Added Courses for the students.3.Elective courses are suggested for the students in order to strengthen the program outcomes.

Examination System

64

Internal examination• 2 CAE examination• First CAE examination covers 2 COs and second CAE

covers all COs• Question papers are designed keeping in mind the

targeted course outcomes• A moderation committee reviews the quality of question

papers

PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge toassess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevantto the professional engineering practice.

Civil Engineers plan, analyze and design the structures for the society to construct them for thewelfare of the society only. This area of interaction is not very well conceived by the students.
