ers. Department of Electri-
cal Engineering came into
existence in the year July
2001 with intake of 59
students in Under gradu-
ate. The department has a
goal of providing excel-
lence in technical educa-
tion. The department
started AICTE approved
Masters program in Power
Systems in the year 2013
with an intake of 24 stu-
dents.

The department has state of art laboratories with various test benches, testing instruments, numerical relays. de-veloped experiments in Power Systems. The department also possesses 4 computer laboratories enriched with li-censed soft-wares like MATLAB, PSCAD & PROTEUS. The Microprocessor & Micro-controller lab is furnished with numerous development boards including TMS320LF2407 eZ DSP started kit for developing DSP applications. The Automation & Control lab is equipped with number of PLCs by Siemens & AB.
PG students carry their dissertation work in industries like Atlanta
Transformers, Baroda Electric Meters & Elcon, Ohm Encon. Baroda.
The students have access to all the testing instruments & facilities
provided in the laboratories.
Major facilities in the High Volt-age laboratory are related to the generation and measurements of high voltage AC, DC and Impuls-es.
The electrical machines laborato-ry sports various test benches and a Data Acquisition System.

The Power Electronics &Drives lab equipped with a number of kits & simulation soft-wares. The Lab is equipped with Pow-er Semiconductor devices to perform experiments with dis-crete components.
The Electrical & Electronics measurement lab also has pro-ject contributions by students for practical performances.

Power system Protection
The Switchgear and Protection Laboratory is equipped with wide range of relays starting from conventional electrome-chanical relays to the most modern numerical relays for protection of generators, transformers, transmission lines, motors, etc. The laboratory provides facility to check im-pact of various types of phase and ground faults on the power system network.
A workshop on DSP applications was organized by Prof. Sumit Rathor, wherein experts from dif-ferent institutes delivered talks.
Dr. Vithal N Kamat delivered an expert talk on Smart Grid during I-Maze’15 the largest tech-nical fiesta of GCET. Among the attendees were PG students of Power Systems & interested stu-dents from various levels of Electrical & EC En-
