Honda Eco Technology

Todays generation in india wants sporty like bike with more milage. Keep-

ing this in mind Honda has formed strategic approach of Mileage Up for maxim-

izing customer satisfaction, Honda launched the all new Honda Eco technology

in 2013, making the Most Fuel Efficient 2-Wheeler in India.

HET (Honda Eco Technology) Give more milage because Honda improved

Combustion, reduced friction and optimized transission.

Reduced friction by offset crank, significant weight reduction of recipro-

cating parts, low tension piston ring and improved bearing oil seal.

Improved combustion with highly ignitable nickel spark plug and opti-

mized inlet port. By optimizing Pulley converter ratio & driving force, the power

has been maintained & mileage has been increased.

Our fundamental design philosophy seeks to maximise space and comfort

for people, while minimizing the space required for mechanical components.

With this aim in mind, Honda's.R&D activities include product-specific develop-

ment and fundamental research.

Let's talk about few of the advanced technologies that we have:

1.)Combi Break System

Generally, it is not easy to control a

2-wheeler while braking during emergen-

cies and bad road conditions. This combi

break system not only allows easy & simul-

taneous operation of the front & rear brake

but also provides optimal braking performance. When the left side brake lever is

pressed, the system distributes the appropriate braking power between the front

and rear wheels, which assures complete safety for the rider.

2.)HondaMatic Transmission

The compact, efficient & oil pressure controlled Hondamatic Transmission is

the world's first fully automatic transmission system, which delivers a dynamic com-

bination of torque & excellent accelerator response for a constant and superior driv-

ing experience. The transmission is being used in Honda's all terrain vehicles. Honda

is working hard to introduce this Hondamatic in two-wheelers.

Page 8 Brain Waves

3.)Fuel Injection System+

Honda's fuel injection technology is designed to realize ideal combustion,

and hence result in supplying maximum power output, improved fuel efficiency and

to be environment-friendly.

4.)Idle Stop System

Honda has created an advanced Idle Stop System (see image below) that

reduces fuel consumption while totally blocking out toxic exhaust gas and unwant-

ed noise. It enables the engine to stop automatically for 3 seconds after the vehi-

cle stops moving. And when the throttle is opened, the vehicle engine restarts and

takes off smoothly.

Page 9 Volume 5, Issue 1, JULY 2018

Honda Eco Technology

In keeping with its strategic approach of Mileage Up for maximizing customer satisfaction, Honda launched

the all new Honda Eco technology in 2013, making the Most Fuel Efficient two wheelers in India!

The new Honda Eco Technology boosts fuel efficiency of Honda's products resulting in a Dream Mileage

(Mileage based on internal Honda test ride mode that is close to actual city riding conditions). This revolu-

tionary mileage benchmark is yet another milestone from Honda.

Forming the crux of the revolutionary Honda Eco Technology is the trio of improved combustion, significantly

reduced friction and optimized transmission in Honda engine:

• Reduced friction by offset crank, significant weight reduction of reciprocating parts, low tension piston

ring and improved bearing oil seal.

• Improved combustion with highly ignitable nickel spark plug and optimized inlet port.

• By optimizing Pulley converter ratio & driving force, the power has been maintained & mileage has been

increased.

The Boeing Insitu RQ-21 Blackjack, formerly called the Integrator, is an American

unmanned air vehicle designed and built by Boeing Insitu to meet a United States

Navy requirement for a small tactical unmanned air system. July 24 (UPI) -- Insitu

has received an $8.9 million order for spare parts and maintenance services

for an existing contract for RQ-21A unmanned aerial vehicles.

Work on the contract, announced Monday by the Department of Defense, will be

performed in Bingen, Wash., and is expected to be completed by March

2019. Marine Corps fiscal 2017 procurement funds in the amount of $8.9 million

will be obligated at time of award.

Each system is composed of five aircraft, two ground command units and a

launch and recovery system. The Blackjack can carry several kinds of mission pay-

loads, including surveillance vid-

eo, communications relays and

target designation gear such as

lasers. Insitu was awarded the

Small Tactical Unmanned Aerial

System contract in 2010 to begin

development of RQ-21A Blackjack. This program of record for the United States Navy

and United States Marine Corps was the first organic and dedicated multi-intelligence

Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) for USMC and USN tactical commanders. The RQ-21A

system is modular, flexible and multi-mission capable, providing roll-on, roll-off tran-

sitions between land and maritime environments. RQ-21A Blackjack's open architec-

ture payload bays can be customized with imagers, communication capabilities and

other tools to deliver exceptional situational awareness. The USMC received a system

from Insitu in Integrator configuration in January 2012 to execute early operational

capability (EOC) for the STUAS programme. The maiden flight of the same was per-

formed in the same month and the new system was deployed with USMC's unmanned

aerial vehicle squadron (VMU) 2 and 3. The RQ-21A Blackjack successfully performed

its first flight in July 2012. The United States Marine Corps has ordered 32 systems

each with five air vehicles each.

Aerodynamics: Mercedes

Automakers are always looking to improve the aerodynamic quality of their

vehicles and there is an ongoing competition to outdo each other in this ar-

ea. Better aerodynamics have the benefit of making a car more fuel-efficient, but

it can also mean that it goes faster.

Mercedes-Benz now claims that its new car is most aerodynamic in the

world. “With a Cd value of 0.22 and a frontal area of 2.19 m², the new A-Class Se-

dan has the lowest drag of any production vehicle worldwide and thereby defends

the original world record of the CLA Coupé,” claims Mercedes. The letters ”cd”

refer to drag coefficient – the lower the number, the less the drag. The company

says the aerodynamics engineers at Mercedes-Benz have been repeatedly set-

ting new records “for three decades now”.

The world record is currently held by the new A-Class Sedan with a Cd val-

ue of 0.22 and a drag of less than 0.49 m2. With a Cd value from 0.25, the new A-

Class hatchback, too, surpasses its already excellent predecessor (Cd value:

from 0.26/frontal area: 2.20 m2). The A-Class Sedan was optimised down to the

smallest detail by a multiplicity of computation loops, CAE simulations (computer-

aided engineering) and measurements in the wind tunnel in Sindelfingen.

Harivignesh N : 3rd year

Page 15 Volume 5, Issue 1, JULY 2018

In addition to the “outstanding exterior shape”, there are many small

measures that led to the new record: a sophisticated reduction of the frontal area

despite significantly improved interior comfort dimensions, an extensive sealing

concept – such as the

sealing of the headlamp

surroundings – as well as

almost complete panelling

of the underbody, which

includes the engine bay,

main floorpan, parts of the

rear axle and the diffuser.

The front and rear wheel

spoilers were optimised specifically to route the air around the wheels as efficiently

as possible.

The rims and tyres also underwent aerodynamic fine-tuning. Depending on the mar-

ket, an optional two-part shutter system behind the radiator grille is available, which

minimises the airflow through the engine bay. The A-Class Saloon will launch at the

end of 2018. The four-door notchback has the wheelbase of the hatchback (2729 mil-

limetres) as well as the proportions of a dynamic and yet compact saloon with short

overhangs at front and rear.
