Dear Sponsorship Partner,
Thank you for taking an interest in the McGill Racing Team. Our efforts last year yielded outstand-
ing results: 1st in Canada and 34th overall (compared to 60th last year). This great improvement is the re-
ward of the dedication and countless hours of hard work necessary for the success of this project. Howev-
er, our achievements would not be possible without the help of our sponsors.
The team participates in multiple events throughout the year, with our main event being the For-
mula SAE East Competition in Michigan each May. This competition gathers over 120 universities and col-
leges worldwide. Comprised of undergraduate students, the team each year, designs, builds and competes
a formula-style prototype vehicle in the widely attended Formula SAE Series. A project of this nature gives
our members a great opportunity to apply principles learned in the classroom to a real life scenario. Com-
puterized design, machining and fabrication as well as project management and problem solving are a few
of the skills that our members acquire, providing them with the practical engineering experience that will
greatly benefit them in their future careers.
This extracurricular activity, although entirely dependent on student effort, is very costly: produc-
tion, traveling and registrations are expensive. Our team thrives off of the material and monetary contribu-
tions of our sponsors that allow our team to succeed and continue for generations to come. Any form of
support is extremely valuable for our project. Any donations will be used to facilitate design, construction,
and testing of innovative components for our prototype which allows our team to continuously push the
envelope and expand our knowledge. In turn, we are loyal to our sponsors and give them back as much as
we can. In the following pages you will find information regarding our team structure, budget, sponsorship
levels and benefits as well as a brief history of Formula SAE at McGill.
A partnership with the McGill Racing Team is an investment in the quality of young professionals and
future engineers.

McGILL RACING TEAM
The Society of Automotive Engineers was founded in 1905 and is composed of
nearly 90,000 engineers, business executives, educators and students from more
than 100 countries. More than 300 collegiate chapters around the world partici-
pate in several student competitions.
Currently, the McGill Racing Team is in the design and development stage of its
14th Formula SAE prototype in its 16-year history. With the help of our dedicated team members, we are able to con-
tinue our success each year. Our team organization allows our aptitude for engineering to reach its full potential.

McGILL RACING TEAM
The McGill Racing Team (MRT) has a rich history in the Formula SAE series. Since 1994, McGill Engineering stu-
dents have build 13 cars. Here is a short overview of MRT’s history:

The First Generation 1994-1999
The first car, known as Boomerang, was built in 1994. To-day, it is displayed at an indoor karting track in Montreal as a silent witness to McGill’s motorsport history. The second design, affectionately referred to as Big Bird, raced twice in Formula SAE, ranking 1st in Quebec and 2nd in Canada for the 1998 season.
The Second Generation 1999-2001
Big Bertha, so called because of its rather bulky look, was an enriched learning experience for many new members. Despite the challenges brought before the team, the MRT improved its best result with a 19th overall standing in the 2001 Formula SAE competition.
The Third Generation 2001-2005
The McGill Racing Team’s 4th new design in competition achieved a great standing with a 15th overall finishing in the 2002 Detroit competition, 3rd in Canada, and 1st in Quebec. Success continued in 2003, when McGill’s turbo-charged entry finished 5th in the world in the autocross event. The MRT 6 featured an undertray and an award winning Engine Management System, finishing 1st in Can-ada and 15th overall. A powertrain failure pulled the MRT7 out of the endurance race in the 2005 competition.
The Fourth Generation 2005-2010
MRT8 featured a new chassis design and a lighter sus-pension, but its aging engine configuration caused many problems. The following year, the MRT9 produced the most powerful engine McGill has ever run, finishing 50th out of 131 entries and receiving the SAE Certificate of
Achievement. MRT10 brought only few modifications, but an engine failure again prevented it from finishing the endurance part of the competition.
MRT11 was by far the McGill Racing Team’s most success-ful entrant. New rules obliged radical changes, however, the team finished 14th overall, 1st in Fuel Economy, and 3rd in Canada. The improved MRT12, featuring a cutting-edge intake system, with 30% more power and improved suspension was hindered by engine problems during the endurance event, resulting in a 60th place finish.
Current Generation
Armed with an entirely new exterior design, the MRT13 collected incredible results during the 2011 competition in Michigan. Not finishing the endurance race due to a faulty oil fitting cost the team 40% of the total possible points. However, MRT13 stood a strong 34th overall and 1st in Canada. It also scored an impressive 16th in the Cost event, 15th in Design (winning 3rd place in 3-view drawings), and 12th in Marketing.

Building a race car is an expensive endeavour. Contrary to what one may expect, material costs account for only half of
our expenses every year; the other half goes to often forgotten but equally important necessities.
Sponsorship is essential to the success of our team. Without the generous support of local and corporate enterprises,
the team would not have access to the necessary materials, resources and expertise that contribute to the production
of our car year after year. With the help of this detailed sponsorship hierarchy, you can evaluate the return on your
investment in the McGill Racing Team.
Tax deductible receipts will be issued for individual or corporate donations. Contact us for more information on this matter. All material, equip-
ment and machining contributions granted to the McGill Racing Team will be counted as monetary.
