10. Course overview: This course is designed to provide nursing students with the knowledge of medical and surgical nursing principles and theory, and nursing skills needed for practising nursing. The course emphasises the unique nature of client’s needs and importance of holistic nursing care. It uses the nursing process framework combined with application of knowledge gained from other subjects of the programme. The course focuses on Medical and Surgical Nursing. 11. Course objective:
On completion of this course the student will be able to: • Understand development and basic principles of medical surgical nursing. • Recognize the basic nursing concepts underlying all nursing interventions in adult nursing care. • Understand and use the nursing process as a framework for providing medical surgical nursing care for a patient
with selected alterations in health status. • Use critical thinking and systematic approach to planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing
interventions for common medical surgical diseases in medical and surgical wards/units. • Demonstrate knowledge and skills of patient assessment and measurement regarding medical surgical nursing. • Understand discharge plan and patient teaching for common medical surgical diseases.
12. Student's obligation The role of students and their obligations throughout the academic year will conclude the attendance and completion of all tests, exams, assignments, reports, in both theoretical and practical sessions.
