We had a rise of 22 places in the University League Tables 2016 for SPORTS SCIENCE

Seventeen of our BA (Hons) Sports Studies students and two staff recently spent a week on work placement at Club La Santa, in

Lanzarote.Lanzarote. The students helped organise and manage the Volcano Triathlon, which saw an old friend of mine Corinne Abraham win the female race in a blistering time of 2:09:19. Everyone said it was an unforgettable

experience.

Jack Goodwin a graduate from the BA (Hons) Sport & Physical Education course recently accepted a place at Florida State University (FSU) in America, to study for a Masters degree in International Affairs. Jack, who has represented Great Britain in Underepresented Great Britain in Under-23 cross country is also an integral part of the FSU Cross Country squad.

A number of our BSc (Hons) Sport Science & Coaching students are currently on a Per-

formance Analysis placement at Bedford Blues RFC and with a number of

local and university teams.

I was very pleased to work with BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science student Kylrn Brooks-Lynch last year and earlier this month we presented our research entitled: Centre of pressure excursion in footballers’ support limb when maximal instep shooting at the Annual Conference of the British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences, which was held at St. George’s Park National Football Centre in BuBurton-on-Trent. It was a great experience for Kylrn to meet lots of other postgraduate students and to discuss his research with some of the UK’s leading sport scientists.

I attended a glittering ceremony at a packed Corn Exchange in Bedford this week, which paid

tribute to around 100 local nominees for the 20th Annual Bedford Sports Awards. The event (which was the biggest gathering of sports people ever to take place in the County) watched as a parade of

winners in 11 different categories were announced by the sponsoannounced by the sponsors and received their trophies in front of a 300 plus audience.

I had the pleasure of announcing the winner for I had the pleasure of announcing the winner for Sports Team of the Year, which was awarded to Star Junior Rowing Club, who came 4th at the National Junior Sculling Event. It was also an honour for me to meet Julie Rogers, who is a Paralympic Athlete that competed in the London 2012 Paralympic
