CHALLENGESCHALLENGES

• DWWWM challenges - treatment plants that require refurbishment, operations and maintenance as well as upgrading of those that are beyond their carrying capacity. The latest study has shown that almost all our sewage works in the province are overloaded.

• Monitoring systems data not submitted to the Department waste water quality assurance.

• Most plants do not have authorizations.• Skills shortage and vacancy rate of operators.• Lack of proper planning and not ring fencing funding for by

WSAs – WSDP, WCWDM, Asset Management Plans, O&M, etc

Page 21: Department of Water Affairs (Mpumalanga) Support and Intervention to Local Government Institutions

• The recommendations presented to the municipality by DWA were not fully implemented.
