Guest Lecture on Climate Change

SUMMARY :A guest lecture by Dr. Ordetta Mendoza, Former HOD Department of

Botany, Stella Maris College, Chennai on changes in the climatic conditions because of

various anthropologic activities leading to disastrous changes in climate. The talk had

relevant examples for a better understandings.

❖ EXPERIMENT ON DNA EXTRACTION

SUMMARY : Experiment on DNA Extraction techniques were conducted by Ma’am

Ordetta Mendoza, HOD dept of Bioinformatics from Stella Maris College, Chennai. She

demonstrated the experiment to the third year students and helped the students to perform

the exercise. She shared her knowledge and experiences with the students

❖ Guest lecture by Dr. Prakash Chand Sharma

SUMMARY :A session on the basics and derivatives of the the Integumentary System in

Chordates was organized by the forum for the students of Final Year. It was an effective

lecture supported by a power point presentation which made it easier for the students to

understand the topic. It was followed by an interactive session to answer their queries.

VISIT TO THE LIBRARY SUMMARY : A visit to the Central Library was organized by the forum to acquaint

the fresher batch with the rules and regulations of the library and also where they

could search for the books of their interest .

DEPARTMENTAL PICNIC

SUMMARY :The Zoology forum in collaboration with other science forumorganized a

picnic trip to Regentaresort, Pushkar which is surrounded by Aravalli hills and is a scenic

place. A delicious breakfast was followed by dance, pool party and tour of the resort .The

students then enjoyed the sumptuous lunch. some fun games were organized by the

teachers which required team work by the students .The students enjoyed the event

thoroughly

❖ GUEST LECTURE SUMMARY :A session on the comparative account of alimentary canal and digestion in

Chordates was conducted by Dr .P.C. Sharma. His talk was facilatated by a power point

presentation which made it easier for the students to understand the topic and have a better

understanding of the topic.

❖ Guest Lecture By Dr. Monika Kanan

SUMMARY: Keeping in mind the importance of research in higher education the forum had

organized a guest lecture on how to write a research paper. Research paper writing has to be

done in a systematic manner and Dr Monika Kannan, Head Department of Geography who

has more than 40 publications to her credit gave a very lucid presentation on this. The session

aroused curiosity and interest in the mind of Students . It included all the major components

of a research paper writing.

Career Counselling

SUMMARY : Department of zoology of Sophia Girls College organized a workshop ifor the

students on how to apply for internships in India and abroad along with graduation which

would help them to gain work experience as well as better jobs via online sites like LINKED

INN.

microbiology at Delhi university

An industrial visit to Saras Dairy Summary- The forum had organized for an industrial visit to Saras dairy where the students

were explained about the production and transportation methods involved in the final supply

of pasteurised milk. The students were taken to various sections to experience the procedures

involved in the making of milk, ghee and yoghurt.

Workshop on Avian Diversity of Ajmer

SUMMARY: A one day workshop was organised by Department of Environmental Science,

M.D.S University Ajmer on Avian Diversity of Ajmer. The forum motivated the students to

attend the workshop. The workshop had two technical sessions and a photo and collage

exhibition. The students were made aware of the various Avifauna found in Ajmer.

❖ A VISIT TO BIRD FAIR A fair is organized every year in the month of Januar /February to sensitize and make the

people aware about various migratory birds visiting Ajmer . The fair is organised by

Rajasthan Patrika, District Administration and Ajmer Development Authority to promote

tourism. This exposure gives our students an opportunity to familiarise with the various

migratory species and understand the behaviour of these birds.

accompanied the students to various sites and briefed them about the various resident and

migratory bird species encountered during the trail.

Guest Lecture by on Enterpreneurship and benefits of Organic Food

SUMMARY : Guest speaker Miss Ankita Kumawat, an IIM graduate who found her calling

in the dairy and farm business. She provided an insight into the propaganda around

manufactured food products and how to live a healthy lifestyle. A small exhibition of organic

products from Goratan was also put up for sale.
