MATERIALS The materials used in construction of the

class BPM lis APL pumps differ with the type of service application. Some of the pumps built for caustic circulation have been of all nickel construction to withstand the highly corrosive liquids involved in process service. Other ma-terials also available.

CLASS

BPM Class BPM pumps are designed for all those

services which require a horizontal unit to de-liver large capacities at moderately low heads. Typical of their field of service is caustic circula-tion in chemical processing plants, and fan pump service in pulp and paper mills. BPM pumps are horizontal units with a single, mixed flow impeller mounted on the end of a shaft supported by ball bearings.

CLASS

APL Class APL pumps are specially designed for

the wide range of process industry applications which require handling large volumes of hot or cold liquids at low heads. These pumps are particularly suitable for services involving liq-uids with solids or crystals in suspension. APL pumps are similar to the BPM pumps, except that the impeller is of the axial flow type. The APL pumps also have an elbow-type casing which provides direct-flow of the liquid through the pump.

DEEP STUFFING BOX contained in the back casing cover may be packed solid or fitted for injection, as required. Spring loaded stuffing box glands are available if desired, and a tap-ped drain is provided for piping away stuff-ing box seepage.

CASING is vertically split and designed to re-sist corrosion and erosion. The back cover and suction nozzle bolt to the volute casing section at circular, gasketed joints. The suction nozzle is a separate casing which may be easily re-moved to give access to the impeller.

IMPELLER is of the mixed flow type, designed to meet head and capacity requirements. It is keyed to the shaft and held in 13osition by a double lock nut. The impeller is hydraulically balanced for smooth operation. Running clear-ance between the impeller vanes and the suc-tion piece may be adjusted from the outboard end of the bearing housing by an adjusting nut which may be locked securely.

SHAFT is of high-carbon or alloy steel, or other special material required by the service. It is ground and polished for perfect fit of replace-ment parts. A keyed, hooked-type shaft sleeve protects the shaft under the stuffing box pack-ing and is free to expand under high tempera-tures.

BALL BEARINGS are standard construction. The radial bearing is a single-row, deep-groove type, free to adjust axially. THE BPM pump also has a double-row, angular contact thrust bearing that handles the thrust in both direc-tions. It is mounted on an adjustable journal sleeve. The bearings are contained in a dust-tight housing which is supplied with a con-stant level oiler that keeps the lower portion of the bearings immersed in lubricant.

DEEP STUFFING BOX permits the best arrange-ment of packing for the pump application. The stuffing box may be packed solid, or fit-ted for injection. It holds eight rings when packed solid, or six rings with a seal cage for the injection of lubricating liquid. A tapped drain for piping away stuffing box seepage is also provided.

CASING is of the elbow type which provides a smooth flow of liquid through the pump. It is carefully designed and made of the material that best resists the corrosive and erosive ac-tions of the liquid handled.

IMPELLER is keyed and firmly locked to the end of the shaft by a double lock-nut and washer. It is designed to efficiently handle and with-stand the corrosive action of process liquids. No clearance adjustment between the impeller and suction piece is required.

SHAFT is of high-carbon or alloy steel ground and polished for perfect replacement of parts and continuous heavy-duty service. A keyed, tubular-type shaft sleeve protects the shaft under the stuffing box packing and is free to expand under high temperatures.

BALL BEARINGS are contained in a dust tight housing equipped with constant level oiler which maintains proper oil level. A flinger on the shaft prevents the pumped liquid from en-tering the bearing housing. The inboard bear-ing carries radial load only and is free to ad-just axially. The outboard bearing carries thrust and radial loads. The inboard bearing is single row through size 24" and double row roller on larger units. The outboard bear-ing is single row deep groove through size 16" and duplex angular contact in larger sizes.
