Absent heart qi, spleen loses its transformation functions , liver Yin deficiency, which do belong to a deficiency. Sometimes both a deficiency or an excess, leading to a liver qi stagnation and deficient spleen functions.

Syndromes: mental depression, emotional restless, chest fullness, ribs are in full pain, severe pain, stomach fullness, poor appetite, poor stool, tongue coating is thin and greasy, string pulse.
Pathogenesis analysis: liver qi stagnation, liver qi can’t expand. Liver qi stagnations: function is dysfunctional, obstructed meridians, mental depression, emotional restless, chest fullness, ribs are in pain, sever pain.Liver qi stagnation, attacks the spleen and stomach, stomach fullness, poor digestion, loose stool.

Liver qi stagnation
Explanations: Chaihu, Xiangfu, Zhiqiao, Chenpi resolve liver stagnation and regulate qi. Chuanxiong, Gancao regulate blood and reduce pain, smooth liver qi. If chests swelling in pain, add Yujin, Qingpi, Foushou to regulate liver qi; if liver qi attack stomach, stomach qi does not flow downwards, frequency belching, chest is often not comfortable, add Xuanfuhua, Daizheshi, Sugen, Fabanxia to drop stomach inverse qi, if food stagnation and abdominal distension, add Shenqu, Maiya, Shanzha, Jineijin to digestion. If liver qi attacks the spleen with abdominal distension and pain, diarrhea, add Cangshu, Fuling, Wuyao, Kouren to strengthen spleen and clear dampness, if blood stasis and chest rib tingling, tongue with bruises, add Danggui, Honghua to promote blood circulation to remove blood stasis.
