DEPUTY PRINCIPALS REPORT Wellbeing Update and changes to counsellor refer- ral system
During the past few months the Wellbeing Faculty at Terrigal High School has undergone a few changes in both personnel and procedures.
Mr Yates (Head Teacher Wellbeing) is presently Acting Deputy Principal and Mrs McMartin is standing in as Head Teacher Wellbeing. The Learning and Support Teacher, Mrs Schruba is also on leave and so Mrs Martin is standing in as the schools Learning and Support Teacher.
In addition to this our Department of Education staffing allocation for counsellors has also changed slightly with J Twyman now working in the school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday weekB. In addition to this S Quinn has joined our team working in school on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
With the ever increasing demand on the Wellbeing system for counsellor time it is important that the time of the counsellor is used efficiently. In making a referral to the counsellor it is important to understand that Terrigal High School presently has the equivalent of 0.9 counsellor time and that it is at the discretion of the school as to what takes priority at any given time. It is important to remember the school has the equivalent to one full time counsellor to support the needs of over 1000 students. For this reason the school has slightly altered the procedure for referrals to the school counsellor to ensure the most acute needs are met. At times, priority of need will vary considerably.
Any parent or member of staff who wishes to refer a student to the counsellor must make the initial referral to the appropriate Year Adviser.
The Year Adviser will then assess who will deal with each individual case to ensure the best possible service the school can provide.
Finally this week the school data for the National Consistent Collection of Data on Students with Disability has been finalised. The data is collected in all Australian schools and helps provide a national snapshot of all students with a disability.
Should you wish to discuss any of the above Wellbeing update please contact Mr Yates on 4384 4677.
A Yates

NEWSLETTER 13 TERM 3 WEEK 3 ending 5th August 2016
STUDENT ILLNESS PROCEDURES
When a student becomes unwell during the school day, it is expected that they seek written permission from the class teacher to attend sick bay. The front office will then contact the parent to advise them of their child’s illness and arrange for collection from school.
When students contact parents directly, significant delays can be expected while the front office lo- cates the student and processes their early departure.
STUDENT PASSOUTS A reminder once a Passout has been issued, please make sure your child is aware that they need to collect the passout from the front office and carry the passout with them at all times once they have left the school grounds.
Passouts are being left at the front office on a regular basis uncollected.
Thank you
RAE A, PARALYMPION We are incredibly proud to hear that former Terrigal High School student Rae A has been named in the 2016 Australian Paralympic Team to compete in Rio. Rae is an outstanding sportsperson who has had a long history of success in athletics. We would like to wish Rae all the best and will be following her journey closely when the Paralympic Games get underway on the 7th September.
YEAR 11 LEGAL STUDIES
Last week, Year 11 Legal Studies students visited Gosford Court. We were fortunate enough to watch an interesting matter in both the Local Court and the District Court, both ofwhich have greatly enhanced student learning on court procedures, court personnel andon sentencing. We are most grateful to John Arms, Clerk of the Court (one of our parents), for addressing our students and for making arrangements for us on the day. We are also very grateful to His Honour, Judge Bozic for addressing our students and to Crown Prosecutor T Bright, for updating us about the conclusion to one of the cases last week.D Massie
