Discover Derby Theatre: A Learning TheatreOur doors are open – come and find out more! Welcome to our Spring/Summer 2018 Learning Programme. Here at Derby Theatre, we provide unique access to our building, staff and creative teams to support learning right across the curriculum. Our exciting programme of workshops, shows and bespoke projects will inspire young people to engage with a whole range of subjects from English to Science. We offer an exciting hands-on approach to understanding the wide range of careers in theatre, led by all of our staff who are trained to share their skills with others.

We can also give you special access to practitioners from the whole theatre-making process, from designer to director, writer to actor, who will help students explore and understand texts, theatrical concepts and processes.

On our main stage this spring, we’re thrilled to be staging Jim Cartwright’s classic comedy, Two, which features brilliant and colourful interrelating stories from 14 characters, played by just 2 actors. We are also offering the very best in visiting companies, like the internationally renowned physical theatre company, Gecko with their new show: The Wedding.

We offer Arts Awards and can support you on your Artsmark journey. We also work in partnership with QUAD, Déda, Baby People, Derby Museums, Sinfonia ViVA, Derby and Derbyshire Music partnership, Artcore and EMCCAN to provide you with a one-stop shop for all your creative and cultural learning requirements. You can choose from a wide range of projects and programmes on offer or contact us to develop something bespoke for your learners. See the Cultural Campus section for details.

We hope our programme will inspire you, but if you have another idea that you’d like to explore with us, do get in touch. Contact us at [email protected]

Gecko’s

The WeddingThursday 8 February - Saturday 10 FebruaryWe are all married, bound by a contract. But what are the terms of this relationship? And can we consider a divorce? Led by Amit Lahav, Gecko’s latest creation is inspired by the complexities of human nature: the struggle between love and anger, creation and destruction, community and isolation.

Combining movement, imagery and provocative narratives in the company’s trademark style, Gecko’s seventh touring production brings these contracts into question with an emotionally charged and spectacular performance.
