SCOTT COVAL Director of Athletics Scott Coval enters his seventh year as DeSales University Director of Athletics. Coval is responsible for the planning, organization, management and evaluation of DeSales 16-sport men's and women's NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic program. Coval has been with the University for the last 13 years as the head men's basketball coach. Since joining the DSU staff, Coval has also served as the school's coordinator of athletic recruiting, head men's golf coach, and as the assistant athletic director. Since taking over the men's basketball program at DeSales, Coval has compiled a 213-130 (.621) record and has led the team to the post-season 11 of the last 12 years including the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 1995-96. Prior to arriving in Center Valley, Coval was an assistant coach at Lafayette College for five years. He has also been an assistant at Penn State University and the College of William & Mary. A standout player at Whitehall High School, Coval continued his playing career at William & Mary, where he was named team captain and MVP his senior year. He graduated from William & Mary in 1986 with a degree in Business Management. A member of the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame, Coval is the director of the DeSales Uni- versity basketball camp and helps with many other camps throughout the Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey areas. Coval resides in Allentown, PA, with his wife Kaye and their two daughters, Keeley and Mia and son, Nicholas. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR/HEAD COACH Gordon Hornig Women's Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach Gordon Hornig enters his 10th year as both the head women's cross- country and women's track and field coach. Over the last four seasons, Hornig has led the cross-country program to a top four finish at the MAC Championships each time and to its best- ever finish, second place, in 2003. The Bulldogs have also finished among the top 10 in the Mid-East Region twice in the last four years including a seventh place finish in 2003 and an eighth place finish in 2002. Additionally, Hornig helped the most celebrated runner in DSU history, Gina Lucrezi, graduate having earned All-American honors 10 times in her career, become the first- ever DeSales University National Champion when she won the 1,500-meter race at the 2004 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, be named DSU's Female Athlete of the Year all four years and earn Academic All-American honors as a senior. Hornig was an assistant men’s cross country and track & field coach in 1992-93 and from 1994-96 under head coach Al Weiner. Hornig graduated from DeSales in 1992 with a degree in criminal justice and received his master’s degree in social work from Marywood in 1998. He also coached boy's high school cross-country and track at Archbishop Wood HS from 1988-90 and 1992. Wood won Philadelphia Catholic League boy's cross country championships in 1988 & ’89 and was nationally ranked in 1989. As a runner at DSU, Hornig was team captain and Most Valuable Runner in 1991 as well as earning Academic All-League honors. Hornig, who works full-time as a Psychotherapist and also as an adjunct professor at DeSales in the criminal justice department, resides in Center Valley, PAwith his wife Robie and daughter Hannah. 2 - athletics.desales.edu 2006-07 DSU Women's Cross-Country/Track & Field 2006-07 DSU Women's Cross-Country/Track & Field athletics.desales.edu - 1 DeSales University is a private, coeducational, mid-size, Catholic university located on a beautiful 400- acre campus in Center Valley, Pa., just minutes south of the metropolitanAllentown/Bethlehem area, and north of charming Bucks County. It is also within an easy drive of Philadelphia, New York and the Jersey shore. The University was established by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales in the Allentown Diocese in 1964. Its mission is to provide men and women with a liberal education in the Catholic and Salesian traditions, emphasizing academic excellence, individual attention and preparation for careers. The purpose of DeSales is to enable students to become Christian humanists, that is, to become fully human in a Christian way. Today the University enrolls nearly 1,500 full-time day students and an additional 1,050 graduate and part-time adult students. The University has an outstanding faculty, 85 percent have a Ph.D. or hold the highest academic degree in their specialty. With 90 full-time faculty members, the University offers per- sonalized attention with a faculty-to-student ratio of 16-1. DeSales University offers 35 bachelor’s degrees including eight pre-professional programs, and six graduate programs. More than 95 percent of graduates are employed within six months of graduation. A liberal arts degree from DeSales is also excellent preparation for advanced study in professional fields such as law, medicine and health care, dentistry, or secondary education. The spectrum of majors are offered across nine academic departments, with particular strength in the Performing Arts, Natural and Health Sciences, Business and Education. The business curriculum prepares students for successful careers in areas that range from accounting to sports management. DeSales also offers Pennsylvania Department of Education certification in elementary education, secondary education and special education. The school’s Performing and Fine Arts Department is nationally renowned, and offers degrees in theatre, dance and TV/film. Students have access to superb teachers, world-class performance facilities, and first- rate artistic productions, along with many hands-on opportunities such as a professional summer theatre internship with the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. All of the student acting and technical theatre activities are performed by undergraduates. Coursework emphasizes communication and presentation skills, production techniques and methods, and the development of sound judg- ment and values to help improve the quality of our media culture. The nationally recognized Physician As- sistant program is accredited by the PA Depart- ment of Higher Education and the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Educa- tion Programs. Our students regularly score among the highest in the nation in mandatory standardized national testing and for the fifth time in six years DeSales University’s Physi- cian Assistant Program won the National Medi- cal Challenge Bowl Championship, which is the Student Academy of Physician Assistants equivalent to the NCAA Final Four. The University supports 16 intercollegiate varsity sports and 30 intramural sports pro- grams. MARIUSZ WITTBRODTAssistant Coach

Wittbrodt begins his 12th season as an assistant track & field coachwithaconcentrationinthrowingevents.Hehasanextensivebackground in training field athletes that begins with him being a full-time track & field trainer in Poland from 1982-90 and was also a qualifier for the Polish National team in the discus throw. WittbrodthashadsevendifferentindividualswinMACCham-pionshipsoverthepastfouryearsandthreeofthoseathleteshaveprovisionally qualified for the NCAA National Championships.

CARL BRUNOAssistant Coach

Bruno returns for his seventh season as an assistant track & field coach.PriortojoiningDSU,BrunowasanassistanttrackcoachatSauconValleyHS.HeisprimarilyresponsibleforworkingwithboththesprintersandhurdlersatDeSales. Bruno has had a positive impact on the track and field program. Sincehehasarrivedeveryindoorandoutdoorrecordinthesprintsandhurdleeventshasbeenbroken.

BRIAN MacDONALDAssistant Coach

MacDonald returns forhis third seasonasanassistant track&field coach. He will continue to assist Coach Hornig by coaching thepolevault,throwersandathletescompetinginmutli-events. MacDonaldgraduatedfromDeSalesin2004withabachelorofartsdegreeincommunications.HehadaverysuccessfulcareeratDSU finishing as the MAC champion in the decathlon twice (2001 and2002)andisstilltheschool-recordholderwith5,705pointsinthedecathloncompetition.Healsostillownstheschool-recordin

theoutdoorlongjump(20-6.50)andindoorpolevault(13-6.00). He currently works full-time in the DeSales admissions office as a senior Admissions CounselorandresidesinAllentown,PA.

As a junior Symons finished in 16th place at the MAC Cross-Country Championships andhadasuccessful trackseasontaking6that theCTCIndoorChampionshipsinthe5,000-meters(20:00.47)andsecondattheCTC Outdoor Championships in the 10,000-meters (41:51.10).She holds the school-record in the outdoor 10,000-meters in a

timeof40:00.16.

Eileen LavelleSenior - Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow

DeSales: Lavelleentersherseniorseasonafterenjoyingtremen-doussuccessasajunior.ShetookthirdattheMACTrack&FieldIndoorChanmpionships in the55-meterdashandplaced fourthandeighthattheMACOutdoorTrack&FieldChampionshipsinthe 100 and 200-meter dashes. She enters her final season as the indoortrackschool-recordholderinthe55-meters(7.59seconds)and200-meters(27.88seconds)andastheoutdoortrackschool-
