WAYNE L. KELLOGG, one of the settlers of Rock County of 1854, and a leading farmer ofPlymouth Township, residing on section 10, is a native of the Empire State, having been born in 1824. He is the second in a family of seven children,whose parents were Ralph and Clarissa (GRIDLEY) KELLOGG, and but three of that number are yet living: Lucinda, the eldest, is now deceased;Wayne is the next in order of birth; Adelina makes her home with our subject; Sarah and Semore have also passed away; George died in the year1840, and Chancey, who for some time was Judge of the Surrogate Court, twelve miles from Junction City, is now engaged in farming in connectionwith our subject.Wayne KELLOGG was reared to manhood in his native State, and there continued to reside untilthirty years of age, when he resolved to try his fortune in the West. In 1854 he left his Eastern home and came to Rock County, Wis., and thefollowing spring purchased a farm in Plymouth township, which continues to be his home. It comprises 152-1/2 acres of land. The many fineimprovements are all due to his efforts, and in connection with his other labors he has engaged quite extensively in stock-raising, making a specialtyof the breeding of fine horses, in which he has been quite successful. He is one of the self-made men of the county, having started out in life with nocapital, yet continuing good business ability with industry and enterprise, has become one of the well-to-do men of the community. He has shared inthe trials and privations of frontier life, when conveniences were few, markets far distant, and the implements of farming were very rude incomparison with the highly improved machinery of today. He has mowed his whole farm with a scythe, mowing twenty acres per week.Adeline, now Mrs. PENTECOST, the sister of our subject, is keeping house for her brother. Shewas born on the 6th day of January, 1823, in the State of New York, and was married April 17, 1860, becoming the wife of Philip PENTECOST, whowas a native of England. Five children were born of their union, four of whom are now living: Lucian, who resides in Oto, Woodbury Co., Iowa,married Olive SMITH, by whom he has five children; Ida B. is special agent of the Pennsylvania Mutual Life Insurance Company, with headquarters at143 LaSalle Street, Chicago, Ill. Clara A. married Almon NEWTON, a resident of Beloit Township; Hattie M. is still with her mother; Harriet Byron died inBeloit in 1863.In his political views Mr. KELLOGG is in sympathy with the Republican party. Taylor was born July 11, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Myron "Mike" N. and Evelyn G. (Wetrosky) Taylor, where he was raised. Hemoved to Salem in 1967. Mr. Taylor had worked in the sheet metal industry all of his life. Some of his projects included working on the PortlandConvention Center, the Lloyd Towers, the Portland Center for the Performing Arts and the Capitol Expansion in the 1970s. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Byron Taylor in 1982; his father, Mike Taylor in 1983; his mother, Evelyn Taylor in 2001; and a sister,Marlene Westergaard in 2004. Notes on Marlene Ann TaylorMarlene A. WestergaardStoryLeave A TributePosted: Saturday, April 24, 2004SLOAN, Iowa -- Marlene A. Westergaard, 65, of Sloan died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton, Iowa, with the Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Burial will be inFairview Township Cemetery, Albaton. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are underthe direction of Rush Family Care Services at Onawa, Iowa.

Marlene was born Feb. 9, 1939 in Sioux City, the daughter of Mike and Evelyn (Wetrosky) Taylor. She graduated from Central High School in 1957and entered the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1960. She trained in Iowa City and Hastings, Neb. and taught nursing at St. Luke'sHospital in Sioux City for two years.

She married Norman Westergaard on Aug. 21, 1971 in Sioux City. The couple made their home at Albaton. Marlene was a professional pianoentertainer around Siouxland and composed and recorded "The Return of Sioux City Sue".

She was a member of Skien Lutheran Church, where she shared responsibilities of organist for 30 years, was a member of Sloan Birthday Club andthe Albaton Barbecue Bunch. She enjoyed traveling, watching movies and cooking and was well known for her infamous spaghetti sauce.

Survivors include her husband, Norman; children, Nancy and her husband, Juan Hernandez, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Debbie Griffith of Arvada,Colo. , Mike and his wife, Tracy Andrew, of Sioux City, Marcia and her husband, Jay Erickson, of Leesburg, Va., Patti Blake of Sloan and KrisWestergaard of Sloan; grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley and Joshua Andrew, Kelli Blake, Sean Westergaard, Shayla and Kassey Griffith, AbbyErickson, Sabina and Benjamin Hernandez, Timber, Tyson and Tasha Bourassa; a brother and his wife, Larry and Melissa Taylor or Salem, Ore.; hermother-in-law, Mildred Westergaard of Whiting; and a sister-in-law, Inga Vestergaard of Denmark.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son-in-law, Dennis Blake
