Place: Santiago de Compostela. (Unesco Heritage). GaliciaSpain
Objectives:
-The training course is an approach to the basic aspects of the relationship between Art and Science. Step by step
we analyse the various ways in which Science may become Art, and how and when Art could influence Science
and in the actual fusion of Art and Science to make a Third Culture.
-The main aim for the teachers is to get some hints, which they can use in their Art and Science lessons, in order
to convey to their students the idea that both Science and Art are, in a deep sense, very similar and that they are
closely related.
-Spreading the culture of Galicia through its triangle of World Heritage Sites: Santiago and the Camino de Santiago
(end point of pilgrimage, meeting point of cultures, location of international meetings), the tower of Hercules in A
Coruña and the Old Roman Wall of Lugo. This also includes its society, traditions, cuisine, current technology,
lifestyle, Celtic heritage...
- Finally, yet not less important, contacting of teachers with the same interest in opening new avenues in the
fields of science and art and to convey this concern to the new generations.

europafels: Our Concept for continued vocational training
One of the main goals in our conception of continued vocational training is to bring theory together with practice.
This is why our seminars are organized to provide participants with information based on the current state of
6 Descriptions of courses run by providers taking part in the European IST conference in Cologne / December 2013
Country Institution Description of the institution
research on a given topic. In order to meet this high standard of timeliness, we have professors from universities
near our training centers in Europe and Germany teach our seminars, specialists who take into account the latest
developments in their field in terms of research and application. Our instructors are come from a variety of
disciplines and are thus able to shed light on the topics taught from different viewpoints. Additionally, we invite
presenters whose main occupation is teaching and we ask them to introduce the participants of the course to
different possibilities of putting the theories into practice – an approach to advanced training for teachers which has
proven successful both nationally and regionally.
We do not only hold ourselves to these high standards of timeliness when it comes to the presented information,
however. We also try to meet them in our own teaching. This is why our instructors are encouraged to use the
didactical materials they bring to the seminar from their own academic research and teaching experience in our
seminars. Participants’ competences in the area of IKT, for example, are thus not only developed by the information
provided by the instructors on the subject, they are also developed through active exchange on online platforms.
The materials taught are eventually put to the test during visits to individual institutions. As we take tours through
the schools, businesses and public institutions that use innovative concepts, our instructors who specialize in the
respective field explain how they have put theoretical findings into practice.
In this way, the seminar concept can be immediately translated into the class room setting and participants have a
chance to get to know the theory and practice of an activity-oriented form of teaching.
Due to the conception of the vocational training
- participants are offered multiple options to connect,
- they are challenged to actively take part in the seminar;
- they have the chance to get to know different kinds of customs and conventions through personal contacts and are
thus given the opportunity to reflect on their own cultural practices critically;
- they get a chance to experience the region, its history and culture;
- they are given opportunities to reflect on their own stance toward the materials taught and the topics discussed;
- they are involved in the production of knowledge and the development of solutions to existing problems.
In this process, learners are involved wholly, and not only gets a chance to advance their knowledge, their
competences as well as their personality. What has been learned can then be applied directly in the participants’
own teaching. Finally, europafels continues to support its participants even after the end of the seminar as they are
trying to put what they have learned into practice or as they seek to realize other projects that have to do with the
seminar topic or go well beyond it.

Forum Eltern und Schule is an institution of political adult education acknowledged by the federal state of
Northrhine-Westfalia. It is carried by Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft Gesamtschule (GGG) e.V. NRW Verband für
Schulen des gemeinsamen Lernens, a non-profit organisation working for integrated schools. Educational policy,

Schule was coordinating institution of the Comenius-2.1 project "EU-MAIL - EUropean Mixed-Ability and
Individualised Learning" (2003 - 2006). The results of this project have influenced our work to a large extent since
then. We have developed a wide range of courses, seminars, conferences on the base of these results. One portion
of this are European courses dealing with different aspects of school and learning in European countries. At first
there were the partner countries of the EU-MAIL project (Finland, Sweden Norway and England). Meanwhile
Northern Ireland (UK) and Southern Tyrole (IT) were added.
There are two leading questions in our European courses:
1) How do children learn and how can they be best supported?
2) What can schools in different European countries learn from each other for the best support of their learners

in the so-called LEVEL5 cube on five quality levels.
Using the cube model LEVEL5 can significantly reduce the complexity in the description of learning outcomes hence
offering an attractive display system especially for not formalised learning settings.
With LEVEL5 also learning projects outside formal educational institutions or even self-directed learning activities
(eg learning in Erasmus mobility programs, while learning the job) can be designed, planned and validated.

TA Group is an educational company that provides services in the field of development of thinking skills of various

curricula and help organisations in problem solving and problem management.
Currently we are offering the following courses for the Comenius target group.
Problem Management & Effective Education based on TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving)
What do we call a problem? Is there a strategy that can help us move from the problematic situation to the idea of a
solution? Can this strategy be mastered by school leaders to ensure successful management of educational
problems?
This course provides answers to the above questions by introducing the participants to the Theory of Inventive
Problem Solving (TRIZ). The course is aimed at school leaders, policy makers, educational administrators and
professionals interested in improving their problem-solving skills.
All participants bring their own problems and deal with them during the course. This ensures a strong practical

focus.
Creativity & Thinking Skills in Language Education
This course introduces language teachers to the Thinking Approach to language teaching and learning
(www.thinking-approach.org). The approach provides teachers with specific tools and techniques that allow them to
integrate the development of thinking skills in the process of teaching a language. Participants are also given an
opportunity to develop or adapt own teaching materials to bring creativity and thinking to their own classes. The
course is based on over 15 years experience of developing and application of the approach across Europe.
Bringing Creativity & Thinking Skills into the Educational Process
Practically everyone agrees that it is important to develop creativity and thinking skills of learners. However, when it
comes to specific thinking tasks, lessons or curricula, it becomes evident that there are more questions than
answers. What do we actually mean by thinking? When can you say that we help our learners become better
thinkers? Can thinking be assessed?
The course provides answers to these questions and illustrates them by examples from various subjects at different
stages of learning (from pre-school to tertiary). The course is built on the experience of embedding thinking into the
learning process in various schools across Europe. Specific examples can be obtained from the community of
thinking teachers website (www.ta-teachers.eu)
Encouraging thinking at home and school
Successful cooperation between parents and teachers is often important for the quality in the learning process. It is
especially useful if parents and schools share the approach to the development of the child.
This course introduces the participants to the materials and the methodology of the Parents As Successful teacherS
project (PASS – www.ta-parents.eu). The project developed support materials for family learning to help parents
facilitate the development of language and thinking skills of children aged 3-7. The adapted version of materials was
also used by teachers in kindergartens, pre-school and primary schools. The lessons learned show that PASS can
become one of the tools for a successful dialogue between parents and teachers.
