What is cataloguing? Cataloguing can be defined as a process bywhich bibliographic records are created for library material. Cataloguing is asubset of the larger field of bibliographic control or organization of information. Acatalogue is an organized set of bibliographic records that represent the holdingof a particular collection. The purpose of cataloguing library collections house a

wide variety of materials on many different topics and in many different formats.The challenge in making these things available for the use of library patrons isletting those patrons know what is in the library collection. This is the reason forhaving a library catalog, and for taking the time to correctly catalog librarymaterials.

AACR2 stands for the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, SecondEdition. It is published jointly by theAmerican Library Association, the Canadian

Library Association, and the Chartered Institute of Library and InformationProfessionals (in the UK). Since 1967, Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules hasserved the profession with highly developed content standards for cataloging theresources that come into your library. It is the one-stop gold standard. As a conclusion, Based on our task given we had learn a

better what are the differences in catalogue the printed material

books with mixed and responsibility, editorial work, work of more than

records contain main entry, added entries and the most important

past is the bibliographic description which consists of 8 areas all

together. To make sure we know how to create a perfect catalogue,

we need to remember all of these 8 areas and their arrangement in

cataloging process and identify the main entry and added entry
