Due to Thanksgiving

on Thursday

This has been a very busy summer. We have many new face in Desert Crest Country Club. The Board and the park clubs are trying to fi nd ways to get to know our new members.

Emergency Preparedness is trying to have everyone ready for the many disasters the state has been experiencing from earthquakes, to winds, and fi res. FEMA through our Emergency Preparedness is off ering a CERT training class in our club house on December 6,7,& 8. If you can attend, please contact Dennis Cline at 760-288-1383. It’s very important that we are ALL prepared.

The Fun Club is having a “meet and greet” on 7th at 10:00 a.m. in the club library. Please watch the Fun Club boards for more information.

The Association Board has the Annual Meeting on December 3rd. The Association Board , also, has the second annual Home and Golf Cart decorating contest, with the Golf Cart parade and Holiday Party, announcing the winners, on Sunday, December 15th. We have refreshments and many awards and prizes for this event. Watch for further times and information.

Here’s hoping all our members have a happy and healthy New Year and 2020!

DOGSAccording to the County of Riverside, ALL dogs outside your property including all coun-ty roads and the desert must be on a leash and the leash must be in the hands of the owner. The Desert Crest CC&Rs also require you to have the dog on a leash. Also, you are required to pick up after your dog.

Anyone in violation of either of these will receive a warning and if there is a second viola-tion, you will get a letter and will fi ned $250.00.

Desert Crest Men’s Golf 2019By Dave Wallace

Men’s Golf will start Friday November 1, 2019 at 8:30 amMen’s Golf will start Friday November 1, 2019 at 8:30 am

Come early to sign up and socialize. You must arrive before 8:15 to play. President Dave Wallace and Vice President Mike Salois will be on hand to welcome everyone and make the team assignments.

Treasurer Robin Johnson will be on hand to collect dues. Bring $50 for a year’s membership, or $12 to play for the month of November, or $3 to play that day.

Come especially early so Robin can get the administrative work out of the way and start golfi ng.

Handicapper John Nielsen will have your handicap posted. Offi cers will divide play evenly between the three skill level fl ights.

Newcomers may want to put a dollar in the Hole-in-One pool. Last year’s participants still have their money in the pool and can win big if they get lucky. Congratulations for last year’s aces by Ray Tokareff on hole one and Dale Warren on hole eight.

Tournament Chair Ray Tokareff will be scheduling tournaments, which are usually held a couple of times a month on Monday mornings.

Mixed Doubles Golf/Jack and Jill- 2019Jim Woodland, Coordinator

Mixed GolfI hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer and is anxious to start our golf leagues. Our fi rst Mixed golf day will be on November 6th. We will be having a new start time of 8:30 am to coincide with both the Mens’ and Ladies’ start times. This league plays the game of Best Ball. All the players hit and the next shot is determined by the “best ball”. All the team players play again from this point. The game moves quickly and allows all golfers, regardless of individual skill levels, to be active, involved members of the team. Couples can play together on request, or play separately and take advantage of meeting new people. We try to mix up the teams so everyone gets to play with diff erent players each week.Play starts each Wednesday morning at 8:30am. If you are interested in playing, please come out before 8:15 to sign up so that teams can be made up by the start time. The cost per person is $1.25. All monies are returned to the golfers in the form of prizes for top team scores, longest putt, and closest to the pin for both men and women.Last year we had anywhere from 12 - 30 golfers out on any given day. We have a good group of regulars

but we encourage new people to join us as they are able. We hope to get some new people again this year to learn the game and join us in weekly games as it is an excellent way to meet more people in the park.We look forward to seeing you there to share in our fun.

Jack and Jill GolfJack and Jill Golf takes place on the last Sunday of each month, using the same format as the Mixed Golf. The diff erence between the Sunday game and the regular Wednesday game is that people sign up as couples and you golf with your partner and another couple.Again, we look forward to your participation. The cost is $1.25 per person with all monies returned to the golfers in the form of prizes. Please arrive by 12:45 so that teams can be made up for the 1 pm start.Whether you are a regular golfer or new to the sport, Jack and Jill Golf is an excellent opportunity to meet your neighbors and enjoy yourself on the golf course. We look forward to seeing you there.

Desert Crest Shuffl eboardBy Patrick Spiger

Desert Crest Shuffl ers

Many new residents are learning the sport and joining their neighbors in weekly fun events. It is a good way to meet others in a fun setting. The play is easy to learn and complex to master. If this appeals to you, here are some ways you can participate. Your President, Patrick Spiger, Vice President, Bill Deal, Secretary, Lin-da Nielsen and Treasurer, George Parker, welcome you.

Club Competition Mondays at 10:00 am

Desert Crest residents are invited to join the club and compete every Monday morning. Bring your $5.00. We are introducing new ways of playing the sport as a team and creating tournament events. Our fi rst club meeting is Monday Nov. 4, 2019. We will have our league and tournament schedules, as well as district news available.

Fun Night Tuesdays at 6:15

Participants gather every Tuesday night to play a couple of rounds for fun. We come early to meet one an-other, draw numbers to determine who we are playing with and begin play at 6:30 sharp. Do not be late. If you come for the fi rst time, there is always someone there ready to help you try shooting and scoring. It will not take more than a few practice rounds to be able to play with oth-ers in the second round. Everybody brings a quarter for coff ee, tea and sweets.

Wednesday Afternoons at 1:00pm

If you are new to the sport and want to participate in a friendly format with other parks throughout the val-ley, you should try playing in Desert Shuffl ers League on Wednesdays. This is a good way to become ac-quainted with the game and make new friends.

Thursday Mornings at 9:00

Desert Crest Shuffl ers compete weekly against other seasoned players in the league. District offi -cials maintain team standings for bragging rights at the end of the season.

Tournaments Throughout the Year

Desert Crest Shuffl eboard Club members are eligible to compete in tournaments at other parks through-out the season. Rookies compete in a tournament hosted by Ramon Park. Other parks host a singles, doubles and cash bonspiel tourna-ment throughout the year. We wrap it up with Desert Crest’s Tournament of Champions—inviting District 5 (Coachella Valley) tournament fi nal-ists from near and far to compete against the best in the Valley in the best facility in the Valley.

The Best Entertainment Value in Coachella Valley

The Desert Crest shuffl eboard court is the largest indoor court in the Coachella Valley. It is open every day to park residents and we en-courage all to learn more. Residents may use the facility any day of the week but please observe all rules and do not walk on the courts or throw the discs too hard. The Des-ert Crest Shuffl eboard Club dresses the courts and provides cues and discs for you to play at any time.

We have survived another summer and the temperature is under 100 FINALLY!!!! Those of us that live here in Desert Crest Country Club year round are growing in numbers as homes sold this year have been to mostly year-round residents. We had a couple of little shakers this summer and a jolt which sent most to the stores stocking up on WATER and canned goods to prepare for a potential of THE BIG ONE ! The remaining people packed their cars and left on vacation early.

WELCOME to all our Snowbirds starting to arrive for the beautiful winter here in the Coachella Valley, and all of the fun activities and par-ties. The spirit here picks up with the joy you bring in on your way.

I must remind each and every one that along with all the beauty there is the DANGER of an EARTHQ UAKE and let's hope it's a small one or none at all, but it is each individu-als responsibility to keep a minimum of one gallon of water per day per person, and some canned food or non perishable eats that will survive without refridgeration. Desert Crest Country Club will NOT supply any food or water to anyone during an emergency, it is your own respon-sibility. CERT Medical triage and fi rst aid assistance WILL be avail-able. CERT (Community Emergen-cy Response Trained) individuals

live here and are part of our EPC, if you or anyone you know would like to become Riverside County CERT- trained you are in luck. Free CERT-training will be held on Friday December 6 from 5 to 9pm, Sat-urday December 7 from 9 to 5pm and Sunday, December 8 from 9 to 5pm. Please attend and let us know if you will participate. The classes will be taught in our Club House by the Riverside County Disaster Re-sponse Team for multiple parks. A hard hat, a back pack and fi rst aid kit will be given to you to keep and Triage techniques are something that can help you, your family and your neighbors.

ATTEND A EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS MEETING ON THE 3RD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 1:30PM IN CLUB HOUSE AND LEARN HOW TO SURVIVE AN EMERGENCY AND BE PREPARED.

Remember .......... We enjoy having everybody here having a great time, playing golf, shuffl eboard, swim-ming and dancing with the beat of the desert, so please join us and learn how we can all survive togeth-er in the event a disaster strikes us.
