SHRINE OFFICE HOURSMonday - Friday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED NOVEMBER 11,2021 VETERANS DAYNOVEMBER 25, 26 THANKSGIVING

Potentate’s MessageRudy F. NoblezaLast month was another busy month for Al Bahr. Units and clubs are beginning to meet in person. Election of new officers are being accomplished as days and weeks are passing by, and the office is being updated. The recent ceremonial, conducted in Tijuana, Mexico added a whoop-ing 65 new members, and possibly more in remaining months, this year.

November is the month our country celebrates the USMC birthday.

On Friday, November 10, 1775 in Philadelphia, the Second Continental Congress resolved to raise two battalions of American Marines to serve during the American Revolutionary War. Two hundred forty years later, United States Marines are still proudly serving our great nation with approximately 186,000 active duty Marines with more than 33,000 who are deployed around the globe.

From the Marine Corps’ first amphibious raid on Fort Nassau, Bahamas in 1776 to the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan to earthquake relief in Nepal earlier this year, Marines have proven to the world time and again that “there is no better friend, no worse enemy than a U.S. Marine.”

What marks the U.S. Marine Corps an elite fighting force not to be reckoned with: our values and our combat skills. Every Marine considers himself or herself a rifleman first, whether cook or Commandant, and places those values and skills above everything else. “Death before dishonor” captures the essence of every Marine – we will fight together as one and never let our comrades down, never leave the fallen behind. No other Service has the privi-lege of being called a Devil Dog!

Every Marine, whether still in uniform or not, was forged in the crucible of the recruit depots or the hills of Quantico. That experience and shared adversity indelibly transformed us into Marines. For all who bear the title, happy birthday!

Chaplain’s Message - Dave WinesettThankfulness...

With the American holiday of Thanksgiving coming in November, we are especially reminded to be thankful for our blessings. Sometimes we forget to be as grateful during the rest of the year, except perhaps on special occasions. At the times that we do feel and express our thankfulness, our spirits are buoyed and our overall attitude is positive. So, it would be good for all of us to strive to remain in a state of thankfulness every day. O Lord that lends me life, Lend me a heart replete with thankfulness! (William Shakespeare.)Just what is thankfulness? As defined by Answers.com — Thankfulness is an attitude of heart from which you are aware of your blessings. Thankfulness flows from the knowledge of how loved, valued and precious you are to God. If we can manage to keep this in mind in everything we do as we go through life, it will have a dramatic impact. It will help us to see things differently, to be happier and to treat others more openly and warmly. In the smallest and most mundane things, as well as in the most grand and extraordinary, we can be thankful. As expressed by William Wordsworth, All that we behold is full of blessings. I am confident that the healing treatment and care given by Shriners Hospitals for Children instills lifelong thankfulness in the hearts of their young patients. With dedicated support and charitable service from each of us to make that care possible, we can always contribute to that

Chief Rabban - Peter KrickhuhnWhile I am writing this report, Connie and I are in full prep mode for the Spooky Chief Rabban Halloween Party. It is our hope that a many of you will have participated and have gotten a taste of what next Year will bring. We are planning all sorts of fun for all of you.Of course, one of the main responsibilities of the Chief Rabban is to come up with a budget for the coming year. Talk about “Spooky”, the first iteration of the budget needs definite help in reducing the expenses or better yet, we have to come up with ways to improve our revenues. A major part of the revenues is the individual dues payment. We all have gotten information from our recorder as well as from the Imperial Council, reminding us that the dues are due by the end of this calendar year and that would be the end of December. Last year we had to look at a major deficit in dues payments and that caused us to reduce a lot of expenses. Please remember that Imperial charges us for each member, whether you have paid your dues or not. So, if the dues are not paid, the hole that this nonpayment creates in the budget is twice as deep, i.e. lack of your dues money and having to pay Your per capita fees to Imperial. Please and pretty- please, find it in your heart to pay your dues on time. Be assured that the Board of Directors is working diligently to reduce the expenses and increase revenues so we can have a great year. Now to happier news, I just got off the phone with Alfonso Martinez and he is telling me that we will say “Holla” to a many new Nobles later this month. He is talking 50 to 60 new Candidates to become Nobles in a Ceremonial on the 23rd of October in Tijuana. The Ill. Potentate Rudy will lead the way and we will caravan to TJ to make sure that the new Nobles will see how we will operate in the new year. We will also greet new Candidates on October 30th here at the Shrine Center during an office ceremonial and create them to be new Nobles just before we will get into fun and fellowship with our “SPOOKY CHIEF RABBAN HALLOWEEN NIGHT”. We will indoctrinate those new Nobles in the ways we have fun and get them busy so they can come back with a purpose.I hope to see all of you here. Please support our effort to having fun and support our kids.

Past Masters - Abe RavitchLadies and Nobles, this is my article for the month of November.

A couple of important days for friends and family this month are Veterans Day and Thanksgiving closely followed by Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. As we know that Veterans Day is Observed to honor our men and women in the armed forces.

Thanksgiving dates back to Plymouth Rock, where food was shared with Native Americans. Hanukkah dates back to the building of the second temple. It is the story of the Maccabees who fought to protect the temple and a miracle happened when the was only enough oil for the lamp for one night and it lasted 8 whole nights. Amazing. Enjoy your time with family and friends this holiday season

Rancho Bernardo - Phil JohnsonThe Club had a great social and dinner in September where Potentate Nobleza and the 2021 divan were recognized. It was good to have 40 of our members and ladies enjoying themselves and sharing the Fellowship of the Shrine. We hope that the events and activities of Al Bahr will grow over the next several months.

Director’s Staff - Steve Bumgarner & Bob Stuckey We are well into the month of Giving Thanks. I hope all that attended the Chief Rabban’s Halloween party enjoyed the decorations and the scary tunnel at the entrance. A special thanks to our resident artistic mind and creator of the tunnel, your very own Director, Robert Dockery. Job well done Robert! November also marks the return of Thursday Burgers to the Director’s Staff Shed. A big Thank you to the Potentate and Recorder for letting us restart the process this July by meeting in the main dining room of the Temple. Have you noticed everything is more expensive these days and shelves are bare? Well, unfortunately the Thursday Burgers are not immune (maybe they need a vaccine? Oops, wrong subject). Cheese Burgers are going up by $1 to $5. It’s still a bargain, you get a Cheeseburger, all the fixings including guacamole for $5. All that and a bag of chips. Soft drinks will remain $1, Beer is now $3 and mixed drinks are $5. Join us every Thursday from 11am to Noon at the Director’s Shed out back. If you are running late, gives us a call and we will wait for you. Due to underwhelming support and attendance at the quarterly Director’s Staff meeting on Oct. 12, 2021 it was voted that the current officers remain in their positions one more year, for 2022. So the list of officers for 2022 are as follows:• . . . . . . President: Steve Bumgarner• . . . . . .Vice President: Bob Stuckey• Secretary/Treasurer: Ron JaenischNobles, we really do need you help, expertise and artistic talents. During the pandemic we didn’t meet and there was very little to be done. Now that the worst of the pandemic seems to be behind us the incoming Potentate will certainly be leaning on the Director’s Staff for more and more. When you became a Noble of the Al Bahr Mystic Shrine you were instructed to join a club or unit, to join the fun. There is no better unity than the Director’s Staff. Please reach out to me or Bob Stuckey today. This holiday season looks to be a busy one and we need your help.

Honored Ladies - Alice Mansfield

The next meeting of the Honored Ladies of Al Bahr Shrine will be Saturday, November 13th, 2021. Join us at 9:30 for snacks, coffee and social time. The meeting will begin at 10:00. After the meeting all are welcome to stay and play Mexican Train Dominoes until 2:00 pm. Our regular meeting on December 11th will be our Annual Holiday Luncheon. For details contact President Evie Sevel at (619) 871-1404. We hope everyone will plan to attend and celebrate this wonderful time of the year. Veteran’s Day is November 11th when we honor all veterans and active duty members for their unselfish service. Let’s never forget these gallant men and women. God Bless America!!

We have much to be thankful for as we celebrate Thanksgiving, considering where we were this time last year! We once again realize how abundantly blessed we are to live in this great country. Happy Thanksgiving to all! There will be no Game Day the fourth Thursday in November due to Thanksgiving.

Remember Ladies…The more we get together, the happier we’ll be!

Greeter Unit - Mike Randall

Any Al Bahr member who is interested in the Greeter Unit are welcomed to attend the meeting. If each member brings in one new member, we could be on our way to being the Unit we once were. We need new members so if any of you wish to see what we do, please contact me below.

Our Greeter meetings are held quarterly on the second Monday of the meeting month. Our next Greeter’s meeting will be on Jan 10, 2022 at 6:00 with social and dinner around 6:30 and 7:00 for our meeting.

Members, Please make sure that I have your current email address, and if you have moved, I need your updated information.

Please RSVP your attendance at our meetings, so the quartermaster can schedule enough food for everyone. You may RSVP me back at this email address...

[email protected] or by calling me at my cell 619-888-mike(6453

Legion of Honor - John GowenThank you Nobles. The Legion’s Chili Cook Off was a success. Thank you to Bruce Smith for heading the committee and doing a lot of the planning and advertising; Beth Carter who ran our White Elephant; Steve Bumgarner and the Directors Staff for assisting with our Burgers; and the Nobles and their ladies who slaved over hot stores to bring their Chili entries. Yum! I’m going to have to keep you suspense for one more month to find out if the Peace Officer’s entry won. Looking ahead. We have two parades and a Stated Meeting in November. The first parade is in Brawley, Saturday, Nov. 13th and then a local parade, The Mother Goose the following weekend on Sunday, Nov. 21st. Finally there is the Chief Rabban’s Stated Meeting on Saturday, Nov. 20th. Thank you again for your hard work!
