• The boundaries between arts and design are blurred over a period of time as applied arts is used to define industrial, graphics and fashion design.

Basic elements of design
• Colour- Used to differentiate items and emphasize to
organize the information
• Line- Used to connect two points and create shapes,
textures. • Shape- Self- contained areas. Every object is contained of
shapes
• Form- It describes volume and mass. Contains 2 or more
shapes
• Space- It is where you place things
• Texture- It is how a surface feels
• Value- It is the benefit of the particular thing

3 types of design
• Product design
- The aim of product design is to create a functionality to provide benefits or the value to the user of a product.
- It mostly evolve around the user flow and experiences during the life cycle of a product.
- As it involves many ideas, Priority should be given in relation to promising benefits.
Interface design
• The aim of the interface design is to translate the product design functionality to an actual product with the help of supporting materials.
• It is nothing but the medium through which user experiences the product.
Visual design
• The aim of the visual design is to convey the product quality and purpose as defined by product design
• Finally it is what user sees. It mostly comes under advertising as to convey the product value
Design career
• Newer and emergent fields such as User experience Design, Service Design, Product Design and Fashion Communication Design are establishing novel and innovative paradigms.
• As a student of design one can look at careers in the IT, FMCG, Fashion and Automotive industry.
