DESIGN DEVELOPMENTS – ANCILLARY PRODUCT (POSTER)

During the planning process of the ancillary products, flat plans were created in order to create an ideal layout for the ancillary product – a magazine review. From the flat plans, I was able to retrieve the layout and apply them to the production process of the magazine review. Boxes were created and subsequently, images were applied within the boxes. This was created on Photoshop. Once the images were imported onto iPhoto, Adobe Photoshop was used in order to convert the colour images to black and white. In addition, the images were altered slightly – a grainy effect was added in order to distort the images and create a sense of mystery, which is conventional to the horror genre. The opacity of the colours was changed for the textual elements of the magazine review, so that the colours were not block and would blend in well with the woodland background of the ancillary product. This concluded the production process considering the creation of the images and titles of the magazine review.

For the production of the textual element of the magazine review, Microsoft Word was used, as the layout that is conventional to the product was not accessible on Photoshop. A black background was applied, since it is conventional to the horror genre – it acts as a connotation of death and therefore foreshadows the narrative. In addition, it serves to create a sense of foreboding and impending doom that is often applied to horror productions. What is more, the colour red, which creates a sense of urgency and consequently, acts as a source of entertainment for the target audience, due to the fact that is connotes danger, the colour red was also applied. Once these conventional colours were applied to the interview of the director for the magazine review, it was then imported onto Photoshop and applied to the magazine review.
